This and online sales has made me pretty stopped from buying newer releases. I could understand a semi-hype shoe like a 1 dropping and then going for $230-$270, but now they're automatically jumping to 3 & 4 hundred. It's not sustainable, it's not smart, and more than likely the money is going to to handful of dorks stealing stock.

Sometime last year I wore my Viotech Dunks and got mad compliments in a day. That's never happened b4 w/ those b/c they're ugly. The hype for sneakers is so blatantly manufactured nowadays. It's like the Lebron 8 & 9/Foamposite era on steriods w/ more steriods.

Niketalk is lowkey mentioned quite often. The New Balance Thread pretty got NB1 shut down last year

Sidenote, I need Nike to go ahead and drop the South Beach 8's now. Now would be the best time.

I like the mentality of not taking it too seriously. Shoot your shot for retail on the ones you want, and then move on. I don't, however, understand the: "I want this and that shoe but can't get them, so I'm dumping my collection" mentality. It reminds me of when kids react and say: "If I have to share my brownie then I'm not having any" and storm off.

For me, I still love sneakers despite this freak'n frustrating mess of a market. I appreciate the ones I have, and enjoy them more knowing that a lot of them would be really expensive to replace now; kind of adds to the "special-ness" factor. I don't do doubles, but if I did, I'd be dumping those now in this high market. This madness just makes me slow down on copping, which is a good thing. I may pay some resell for must haves (ex. Militaries, FR3 w/ NA, WC3 w/ NA), but not paying stupid high prices; maybe $50 above retail after release, for a must have then I'm moving on....

I don't know if you're referring to me with the toddler analogy, but that isn't the case. I can certainly afford the sneakers I want, I just don't have the same love for sneakers as I once did, which just came with time, not raffle losses. I slowed a few years before this madness even started actually.

My thing is. You have all these influencers and resell pages telling people "These will go up, Jordan 1's always go up". Which as a whole has been very true but I just don't think they're considering the fact that all the Jordan 1's that took these big leaps in there aftermarket prices were $200-$220 shoes sometimes even lower post release (Turbos, UNC to Chi, Game Royals etc).

When a shoe is going for retail or barely over people have no problem wearing them and it's more likely the people who buy said shoe will wear it. Hence drying up the supply of brand new pairs, add that in with Original colorways going for a premium they were affordable options for people who wanted a pair of Jordan 1's.

If a GR Jordan 1 is already at $450 the week after the release, how much higher is it really going to go? If everyone is holding to sell and no one is wearing how is it going to "jump" in price? You might as well buy the 2015 UNC's at that point.

For me it's not necessarily retail versus resale, it's about being picky regardless of type of purchase.

What good is saying retail-or-bust if you end up with a ton of mediocre GRs that end up costing just as much or more in total? I'm big on quality over quantity (for Nike/Jordan sneakers, we're talking about quality of design, not just materials).

That statement does not imply all GRs are mediocre, for you logic-impaired individuals. There are some great GRs. I own and love plenty of great GRs. But some of the retail-or-bust guys seem to buy nearly every single GR that drops, even the truly mediocre ones. Meanwhile, they scoff at resale prices on great pairs so never own any. Everyone is different, my brother says he prefers having a different pair every single day instead of wearing better sneakers more often. I'm the opposite, I'll take the top-15 sneakers in my collection over the bottom-50, easily. I don't mind wearing the same sneaker a couple times a week/month if it's an amazing pair I love.

To be fair, I see some people buy every hyped pair for resale and that's also not ideal. If they got it like that, it's not a big issue for them (just wasteful in general). But for people like myself who don't have unlimited funds, I think that's a bad strategy as well. Again, it's all about being picky. Going forward, if I can get 5-15 retail pairs that I really like, and buy 1-4 resale pairs I really love, that's a good year.

Its just the flavor of the week. ever since reselling became the new lemonade stand for suburban white kids the cycle has been in overdrive. fortunately kids have short attention spans and something new will be cool and theyll take their parents money else where until its time to buy jordan 1s again. the dust will settle at some point. if you told me 12 years ago that 11s would be over taken by 1s i wouldnt believe you even though i was buy jordan 1 mids and High straps in 2008 while everyone was buying air force 1s lol and if you told me that id be able to get VNDS turtle doves or belugas for less than $500 5 years ago i would have laughed at you and assumed them to be fake. but here we are in 2021 and both are true.

I'm glad someone notices the cycle lol. Like 2013, Nike will have to do their due-diligence in making sneakers more accessible/ harder for scripts+bots. I think with that Hebert story too, they'll definitely have to prove something to investors.
-COVID messing up procedures/manufacturing+ emphasizing online shopping.
-Terrible economy/ high unemployment.
-Lack of competition (yeezys/ Ye losing it, Last Dance, etc.)

All these things are for why releases have been a headache. Just poor numbers and decisions to make fewer numbers this year.

If Im an investor and I read that people are paying double and triple the price for the product I'm asking why arent we making more or charging more.

I like the mentality of not taking it too seriously. Shoot your shot for retail on the ones you want, and then move on. I don't, however, understand the: "I want this and that shoe but can't get them, so I'm dumping my collection" mentality. It reminds me of when kids react and say: "If I have to share my brownie then I'm not having any" and storm off.

For me, I still love sneakers despite this freak'n frustrating mess of a market. I appreciate the ones I have, and enjoy them more knowing that a lot of them would be really expensive to replace now; kind of adds to the "special-ness" factor. I don't do doubles, but if I did, I'd be dumping those now in this high market. This madness just makes me slow down on copping, which is a good thing. I may pay some resell for must haves (ex. Militaries, FR3 w/ NA, WC3 w/ NA), but not paying stupid high prices; maybe $50 above retail after release, for a must have then I'm moving on....

Idk, its an all or nothing type of mentality.

I do wonder if hype would start to die if retail cost was doubled, etc.

Most recently, Yeezy 700 V1s were being priced at $300 at, aside from Waverunners, they would sit/go on discount. Adidas circled back and recently dropped the price to $240 and they magically attracted tons of resellers once again lol

I think something similar happened to Foamposites during the past few years. At $250 retail most CWs would sit and go on deep discount (when 8-9 years ago, at peak, post-Galaxy foam hype, they would fly off shelves). Once either the price is dropped or supply is made very limited, do Foams tend to sellout and then resell.

The most expensive pair I have left is Yellow NFR's (2 pairs). They were one of my favorite Retros (have 2 Reds too). I didn't keep any exceptionally high value 1s. I would have never worn them so it didn't make sense anymore. Letting go of those F&F Soleflys was tough.
