AF 1s were historically cheap and IMO are more comfortable than AJ 1s.

With AJ 1 OG Highs retailing at $180, they also cut off accessibility to a lot of people. I know they’re constantly on sale but I think the increased retail prices (up from like $130 retail10-11 years ago) probably also negatively impacted the model’s popularity.

To add on to this point as well, let's not forget the whole COVID-era where "casuals" were constantly fighting cartbots for AJ1s during the "COVID/Last Dance Boom" of the AJ1s to the point where casuals were always having to pay resale for AJ1 OG Highs (and other highly popular Jordan Retros from that time period) for "casual wear".............that gave a more negative reputation towards a lack of accessibility to the mainstream casual consumer towards these shoes.

Whereas the "comfy" and "readily available" New Balances, Hokas, Asics, On, Uggs, Crocs, etc............Accessibility is literally their reputation when compared to the Nike/Jordan Brand products, which is why we are beginning to reach this point today.

If anything, the price jump of the AJ1 OG Highs to $180 was the ultimate icing on top for the casual consumer to say "Nah, I'm done with these shoes for casual purchases."

I'm just happy I can cop 1s again for $100. I couldn't care less about Nike selling out, their marketing data or trends
This is what Nike/JB hates though.

It’s clear they are trying to bring the perceived value of Air Jordan 1s up by pricing those 2025 Bred 85 highs at $250. No doubt they will make them extremely limited to ensure they sellout and people start talking about Air Jordan 1 OG Highs. Meanwhile, they’ll be pumping out more trash AJ1 OG Highs at $180+ retail lol

I think AJ 1 Lows are the new wave personally.

The new wave where?

Boutta sound like a boomer but idc. Crocs are an epidemic. I be hooping against kids at the park wearing crocs and slides and ****. They got them ****s on at planet fitness. I know this is nothing new, been seeing ppl wear slides as out of the house shoes my whole life. But it's stupid as hell especially for activewear.

Otherwise I see a lotta everything on kids. I work on a community college campus with a high school on site a few days a week. Lots of retros including 1s, lots of team jordans, lots of asics, lots of new balance. A lot less vans and converse.

For sure but AJ 1s are currently lining Nike Outlets everywhere. The demand for them has fallen off of a cliff.

The youth aren’t feeling the model anymore and have moved on. They aren’t considered “cool” or “trendy” on Instagram or TikTok.

Does that mean they aren’t still a classic model? Obviously not.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love AJ 1s but I also realize dudes in their late 20-40s (and older dudes) on a website like NT aren’t exactly the arbiters of what is fashionable and trendy lol
I doubt that any of the hot CWs are sitting at outlets.

The black toes won't be sitting next year.

...am I wrong?

Aside from collabs, there is like maybe 1-2 “hot” cws a year though lol

What even was the last GR AJ 1s to sellout on release day? Spiderverse 2.0s? (which I think is technically a collab)
