Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Was at the game tonight, and the energy after Soler hit the 2nd home run to tie the game was awesome! Overall, I'm excited with how the Cubs have started.

Some new faces pullin thru. Welcome fellas.

Thanks man, surprised I never found this thread. Long time Cubs fan...still will never get over 03'. I cried as a lil kid that game hahaha. Oh well, glad to see the Cubs starting off strong.

If you start from the beginning, you see it's mostly me talkin to myself. :lol

But I knew in 2011 Theo was gonna fix us, so started the thread last year so I could save up as much info as I could showing the groundwork, the progress, the trades, call ups, etc.

The more the merrier, but even if I have to talk to myself, tryin to get as much info in here as I can for everyone.

And honestly, as much as 03 hurts, 04 hurts me FAR worse. Way worse. :(

Repped. I went a few pages back and nothing but excitement as to the year beginning. I've always been the Cubs fan that says "This is our year" as a joke and when Cubs got Maddon as the head coach a lot of old people and friends hit me up on FB asking what I thought about it lol. Very excited for this year, I just want to see us end above .500 which would be considered a win in my books.

& When Bartman caught that ball, I still remember crying cause that was the game. I won't lie I fell off from like 08-12. But these last two years I've been more into baseball than I ever have.

No, it wasn't. There were plenty of other **** in that game that lost it for them. I can't stand Cubs fans using that as an excuse.

it certainly didn't help and it did change the momentum of the evening though.

i'm not a diehard cubs fan like CP, but i do like seeing the team do well. was a huge fan of Kerry Wood and Mark Prior, it's just a damn shame injuries took those careers away. Wood was so dirty when he first came up.

Granted yeah there were other factors not just him solely, but from what I took away the most that game was that incident. Hearing it in the media and everything definitely is something that stuck with me as a child.

No, you're right about that. And at the time it happened, in the heat of the moment, I was like "this dude did something bad"

But there was more to that game than that, (hindsight of course) that lost it for them; most notably when Alex Gonzalez made that error that gave Florida a bunch more runs that inning. The media ruined Bartman and the fact the dude got death threats and stuff was an absolute joke. **** everyone of those fans. And I'm not talking about the ones that were just upset because they were in the moment, but the ones that literally made the dude go into hiding. They are probably the same dumb *** Chicago Bears fans that thought it was totally, super awesome when McClellin broke Arron Rodgers collarbone.

That's why I hope, someday, they win the World Series, and Theo brings Bartman in to throw a first pitch for a game the following year.

Sort of like Buckner returning to Fenway. Let Bartman get on that field, and let them "apologize" to him, therapeutically.

JRS, Wood/Prior to this day break my heart. Wood carved out a decent career, but Prior was ruined after 04-05. :{

I've never thought about that. That would be awesome if they brought in Bartman for the first pitch.

And I'm sure (anyone) could Google it, but deadspin ran a story (or reposted it with permission) on Bartman and it was a great read. About basically how much of a REAL/TRUE fan he was. Made me even feel worse for the guy.

Plus that was game 6 and in game 7 it was either Wood or Prior but one of em went deep and still lost the game

It was Wood. He hit a NO DOUBTER. And Wrigley almost vibrated off the planet. :lol

:(

I always thought Bartman being used as a scapegoat for that series was a bunch of crap. As much as that series loss stung as a Cubs fan, I felt just as bad for the guy. We still had chances in that inning alone to get it done, but Prior never got any heat for throwing that wild pitch to set up a run, how about Gonzalez's error and so on.

I just think it was a mental meltdown IMO. I still felt good going into game 7 with Wood on the mound, we just didn't get it done. It's not like the game was over or we were out of the inning if Bartman didn't interfere with that pop-up.

#Cubs placed INF Tommy La Stella on the 15-day DL (retroactive to 4/9) w/ right rib cage inflammation; recalled LHP Zac Rosscup from Iowa.

That home run by Castillo was awesome. Wish they could of done something with the bottom of the 9th. Oh well..going to eat luckys now.

I really like Jake Arrieta. I think he pitched a pretty good game last night. a win today would be great. 2 outta 3 from the reds wouldn't be bad. Jon Lester needs to find its groove soon.

Yeah, he had one bad inning giving up the 3 runs, and was shut down every other inning. :{

Still, another showing of late inning fight in the team, they look to make every team sweat, and that's a good characteristic to have.

And again, in a week or so, we'll get a real nice dose of lumber inserted into the lineup. That will help on nights where we've struggled to string together some good at bats.

Nice start to this one early. Rizzo with a 2 run homer in the first, and 2 more runs in the second, 4-0 to the third. Could use a good outing from Travis Wood.

Weekend pitching matchups vs the Padres.

Shields vs Hammel
Ross vs Hendricks
Cashner vs Lester

And as we all know, Kris Bryant will be eligible to be called up Friday. Tho I think it will be an extra couple days before they actually do it. But we'll see.

Wood was doing work out there. Glad to see another W added to the Cubs.

Great performance from Travis Wood, but I'm gonna be crushed if Ramirez is hurt badly. :(
