Looking at markets, I understand wanting UNC but I’m surprised they want FSU since they already have UF for a Florida market. Really surprised they don’t want Va Tech over Virginia and Clemson won’t add much to their market either.

Strictly speaking television markets
See my Tom Fornelli post from yesterday. It's not just about tv. It's also about population growth centers. So Charlotte and DMV would be their focus. They already own Atlanta.

FSU adds value due to their large fan and alumni base, and historical rivalry with UF. Clemson is a smaller (than FSU) public school in a remote part of So. Car. I'm not sure how much they would really provide the SEC?

I know VT is a public school as well, and I've heard the legislature in VA doesn't want the schools splitting up, so it'll be interesting to see if their govt lets UVA go without VT. It would probably have to be under the cover of night like Texas and UCLA absconded. But they have to see it coming now?

N41D N41D I agree, UVA's academic standing makes them feel more Big 10 to me. Idk that VT feels like an SEC school to me either though.

Tom Fornelli did a really good job of breaking down the non football side of the B1G’s mindset behind expansion.

Cliffnotes:
1. It’s not just about football. It’s as much about academics, but not just in the way people think.

2. No region has suffered from population migration as much as the Midwest over the past century.

No single state produces as many potential students who leave the state to go to school elsewhere as California does.

3. They view grabbing the LA schools and that media market as a chance to reach potential new “customers”.

Customers because they make MUCH more money on student loans and tuition and endowments than they do football and always will, so adding USC and UCLA, two Cali teams from a major media market will have teams like Iowa in front of kids from California every weekend and normalize the idea of attending those schools.

4. UCLA’s appeal is that it has one of the largest alumni bases in the country and alums spend money.
Sounds good in theory but only really benefits the few good teams at the top...Nobody in Cali watching Illinois or Nebraska get smoked by USC and thinking "I wanna go there" ...Probly just make the midwest students wanna go to Cali when they see November games being played in mild sunny weather on the regular

Seems like The Big Ten has its pick of Western United States, whereas SEC has its pick of the Eastern U.S. Virginia lol.

UVA got the better market and academics so they'll always be the 1st option before VT

I always figured Va Tech had the bigger market/alumni base, that’s surprising.

I assume due to Miami being a small private school the SEC doesn’t see an added benefit? I would love for the B1G to grab them and get into Florida

We need to accept that if these super conferences form, the best team might have a few losses. We’ve been conditioned to expect these teams to either go undefeated or have one loss, but when you’re playing DAWGS almost every week you might have a couple L’s.

Just throwing names around here but if you’re Georgia, imagine playing Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, TAMU and a sneaky good Ole Miss/Texas/LSU/FSU/Miami team with enough talent to beat you. Have a bad week or two against that kind of talent? Two L’s.

I think the idea is it normalizes those schools as a college option and even makes some seem cool. There's a direct correlation between good/championship seasons and increased applications.

I can tell you I applied to some schools out of high school because of their academic standing, but also because I was somewhat familiar with them as a brand due to my seeing them in college football and basketball. In fact, there were some schools I thought were better academically when I was a child because announcers said so and it wasn't until I researched them that I realized they were capping (you know who you are.) Some people won't research that, care about that, or by the time they do it will be too late because the brand has its hooks into them.

Think of it like all of us on a site called Niketalk. We all know the shoes are ****** material and quality. And yet...

This makes the rounds every few montlikeni said then, cats love to forget we were up 6-3 at the end of the 1st. came out and punched those boys in the mouth 😤

Side note, congrats to dacomeup dacomeup 🎉

Finally bent the knee for his Queen.

Here’s hoping you’re not stuck with fall nuptials and if you are, that they take place during FSU week so you’re not missing anything.
 June 2024. I’m way too smart for that. Appreciate you bruv!

Looking like a young Kendell “Hulk” Jones. (I don’t know if he has any shirtless pics and I’m NOT digging to find any.)

ETA: a strong NOT

IIRC dude ended up at JC and blew up in the wrong way weight wise, and everyone cooled on him.

He didn’t qualify for Bama out of HS and ended up at Copiah-Lincoln then played his second year at Kilgore JC. He definitely blew up to well over 400 lbs based on this pic and never played after Kilgore as far as I know.
