Jeff Van Gundy always explains the frustration with the media/fans focusing so much on "Clutch" stats/situations.

Sure, what happens last SEEMS like it is more important than everything that happens before it but getting off to a good start each quarter and finishing strong at the end of the first is equally as important than finishing the game strong.

Not saying being clutch isn't important, because it is. It shows who has IT. Everyone isn't wired to perform down the stretch.

But a full game needs to be evaluated before we start pinpointing things that simply happen at the end and blaming those instances for wins/losses.

I don't hoop though, what do I know.

The message is the whole point. And the fact that the most famous athlete in the country is wearing it is going to get people talking.
Well, of course the message is the whole point. But people have legit been meme-ing that entire situation, see it all the time on social media. I mean all publicity is good publicity, but it deviates from the genuinety of the situation.

As regards to Bron, we know he does enough for it not to be deemed a corny act or not a genuine gesture. The message is UNDENIABLE and I feel there are better ways to show it than to give MAGA/Trump credence by making a parody/spin off. You legit think he can't just wear a black hat that says "Arrest the cops that killed Breonna Taylor" and it still be effective? Why even bring any type of association to what the idiot in the office stands for? I get why people think it may work, but it's a hard no from me.

The red hat fake out is poor execution IMO. Imagine being a random white dude wearing that on the street cause you support the cause and wanna bring awareness but think it's clever. You might get clapped, some people will automatically resort to fight or flight with the association.

A game is 48 minutes long.

You can buy into that nonsense about a game coming down to one/few plays if you want.

No coach, during film session with their team, would EVER agree to that mentality.

That is how I am looking at it.

A game is 48 minutes.

And that's fine for you and your perspective. You can't tell son he's incorrect for feeling that Whiteside defensive contributions were timely and game changing.

Last 4 minutes of the game
89-87 Portland was up. KCP had an open lay-up. Whiteside with the block.

89-89 tied up. Lebby with a full head of steam attacking the basket was stopped once again by Whiteside. Which was followed up by the Logo Dame Dagger

That was gut punch. 5 point swing.

Mike Malone never hooped either huh?

We always say, ‘The game never comes down to just the last play. Something that happened in the first quarter was just as important.’ But the reality it, when you get to the last two minutes, if you have the coaches challenge in your pocket, that could come up with a really big play or give you momentum.”
NUGGETS COACH MICHAEL MALONE

Coach's challenge could be a timely tool for teams to wield | NBA.com https://www.nba.com/article/2019/10/11/coaches-challenge-other-rules-changes-2019-20

You don't read.

I NEVER said what Whiteside did wasn't SUPER important. Never said it, read my words.

I simply said you can't LOGICALLY say HE won the game.

It is a team sport that lasts 48 minutes.

So this means you are not in favor of having Play In games where losing teams can come back later in the year to win games and set themselves up to play the teams with better records all year... to possibly replace them

Would a random white dude get clapped...or would everything he wanted come tried?

You be the judge.

Completely unrelated to my point but I see why you are attempting to make that connection.

I personally don't like the Play-In gimmick, it is a gimmick to spice things up for viewers.

It is a cool storyline alteration but win your games when you are supposed to win them and finish Top 8 in your conference.

So no, I am never in favor of "giving" anyone anything in the world of competition.

I think Bron is very much trying to mock Trump/MAGA as well as get the Breonna Taylor message across.I think it would be goofy to see random people wearing it, but him doing it on this stage is MUCH different, IMO. Gonna piss of the right and get more and more people talking about it.

Just my two cents.

It is related, it's saying things that happen at the start of the process matter too

Btw I don't like the Play In either unless they structure it like they did In The Bubble i.e. 9th place team has to be within 4 games at least

You enjoy playing these weird mental gymnastic games.

I don't care about what happened in the first 44 minutes of the game if at the 45 minute mark the game is TIED and either team was capable of winning the game.

That's nice those two perennial losers Mike Malone & Jeff Van Gundy say to focus on what happened in the first quarter too. We're talking about execution down the stretch. What happened when the game was on the line.

But my claim was based on GAMES only, not Life as a whole.

But I explained why I am not in favor of Play-in games.

NBA Bubble might be the goat. This feels like basketball at it's purest. Real ballers excelling. The others making excuses about crowd noise and people to give 5s to.
I get that. I just think the minutia of a season (traveling, away games etc.) should matter. Neutral courts especially with no crowds aint it to me. Sports to me is meant to be experienced with all of those factors

Again, I simply said WHITESIDE can't be given the, "He won the game for them" label.

You can disagree.

You can call it whatever you want, mental gymnastics, sure. Whatever.

I can say that it is nonsense in the same breath because it was a nonsense statement.

He played huge for them.
He made huge plays for them defensively.

HE did not WIN the game for THEM.

It is a team sport.
The game is 48 mins.

Take the last word

Not to mention the wear and tear of the grind. Cats having to nut up and dig deep when the Playoffs come around after a grueling 82 game season.

I am talking about games, not life. Games of 1 continuous related season at that
I am talking about ONE game.

You asked me a question about a SERIES of games.

So you can't tell me, "Based on your logic."

The situation changes, so the logic doesn't necessarily apply.
