But, I thought the same thing about Splitter (though he still has room to grow).
You also said the same thing about Taj Gibson.

This isn't kindergarten. Not every player can get a gold star.

Memphis Grizzlies

OK, let's deal with this Rudy Gay stuff first. The Grizzlies were 14-19 after 33 games this year, largely because they were starting Xavier Henry and barely playing Tony Allen, and because Acie Law was the backup point guard, and because they were still trying to get minutes for Hasheem Thabeet.
None of that had anything to do with Gay, and if you thought the Grizzlies were good in the playoffs, you should have seem them when Gay was playing with the rest of the current rotation. Starting Dec. 27, when Henry didn't play and Allen played 34 minutes off the bench (he became the starter the next game), and continuing until Gay was hurt, the Grizzlies were 18-9.

However, six of those games were missed by either Gay or Allen. Take those out and Memphis was 15-6 with a plus-94 scoring margin, and one of the losses came on a 50-foot shot by Sacramento's Tyreke Evans. Included in that stretch were two of Memphis's best wins of the season -- a 19-point beatdown of the Lakers in Staples Center and a comeback, overtime win in Oklahoma City that yielded Allen's now-legendary "all grit and grind" postgame interview.

In other words: The notion that Memphis should trade Gay is ridiculous. He's 24 and a near-All-Star-caliber performer, and he had made notable strides in his defense, passing and general understanding of the game prior to his injury. Watching the Griz melt down offensively in Game 7 underscored how badly they missed his perimeter threat against elite teams.

Presuming the Grizzlies can keep restricted free agent center Marc Gasol, it seems as if they're going to be in a lot more playoff tussles with the Thunder.

Again, the birth certificates: Gay is 24, Gasol is 26, Mike Conley is 23, Darrell Arthur is 23, Greivis Vasquez is 24, Sam Young is 25 and even Zach Randolph is only 29. Those guys aren't going away. Memphis' overly generous contract extensions for Gay and Randolph may make it difficult to keep O.J. Mayo, but if Gay is playing I'm not sure his absence will be noticed. In fact, that stretch I noted above coincided with Mayo's 10-game suspension.

The irony, of course, is that while the Thunder have done everything by the book since leaving the Pacific Northwest, the Grizzlies have committed several notable blunders. Yet this team's rugged style may be the best counter the West has to the Thunder's dominance in coming years.

From Hollinger...

Just for the people who don't have a clue of what they're talking about.

bhz or anyone else, can someone once and for all explain a way for Memphis to re-sign Gasol? Can they really afford him?

Hollinger just glazed over that lol. "Presuming the Grizz can keep restricted free agent Marc Gasol..." lol.

Heisley is a billionaire and has shown the willingness to spend in the past. The prior playoff run, the Grizzlies had one of the more expensive payrolls in the league. Now it's just a matter of spending wisely, which he has not shown overpaying Rudy and not waiting to re-sign/extend Z-Bo and Conley.

But really, a lot will depend on the new CBA.

Hmm. I'm fairly certain someone is gonna offer Gasol a large contract regardless of whatever the new CBA is.

This is gonna be interesting.

Dont matter, though.
This Heat Team is hated and people are either rooting hard for the heat or want them to fail. No in betweens. With Mike it was more expecting him to win so I could see why people dint tune in.

More surprised Lakers vs Celtics isnt up there

I'm thinking the T'Wolves myself. But then again, with the new CBA maybe he returns to Spain.

I hope whoever wrote that and those who believe it continue to think of Kidd as a Kobe stopper and/or the guy who shut down Kobe

So now Hollinger of all people is the only credible source to listen to?

Grizz got good pieces tho. Always wondered if Gay was a legit franchise player or not, but it looks like Randolph took the spot from him.

well it was. you would be crazy to think it wasnt.

so you mean to tell me the dallas mavericks were the krytonite to the lakers?

yea sure buddy.

the lakers lost because of shannon brown's penis and pau gasol growing a vagina a week before the playoffs.

the lakers had wide open 3 point shots. how they shoot for the series?

who played defense for the lakers in that series?

MJ and Celtics vs. Lakers weren't on cable though, so that is why this game is the most viewed in cable basketball history

i have no idea who is going to win
....i would like to see okc stun dallas/cuban @ home game 7 tho
You ain't the only one. No one outside of Dallas wants to see Mark Cuban anywhere near a trophy, even though a lot of people want to see Dirk/Kidd get a ring.

I want Cuban to win one but his face/reaction if they lost would be too funny

 Stein said it too.

Rudy is still the best two way player on the team. Its just good to know you have two guys on the team capable of doing big things.
Charles Oakley sues Las Vegas casino
Associated Press

LAS VEGAS -- Charles Oakley, one of the NBA's all-time tough guys and now a Charlotte Bobcats assistant, has sued a Las Vegas resort over what he calls a May 2010 "gang-style beat down" by security guards who injured him.

Oakley filed the lawsuit Thursday in Clark County District Court against the Aria hotel-casino at MGM Resorts International's CityCenter complex, the Las Vegas Sun reported. Five security officers also were named in the lawsuit.

Oakley was an invited guest at Aria's VIP pool area May 28 when he left the area, the complaint says, but security officers and staff prevented him from re-entering.

After a "verbal altercation" with officers, Oakley attempted to return to his room when he was "assaulted" by them in a secluded area of the resort, the lawsuit alleges.

The complaint contends the officers wrestled Oakley to the ground and punched and handcuffed him, and that he was taken to the hospital with injuries to his neck, back, head and wrist, "all or some of which may be permanent and disabling."

The complaint alleges negligence, assault, assault with excessive force, battery, false imprisonment and defamation. It seeks unspecified general, special and punitive damages.

An MGM Resorts International spokeswoman said the company doesn't comment on pending litigation.

The 47-year-old Oakley has been among VIPs who have participated in Michael Jordan's Celebrity Invitational golf fundraiser presented by Aria.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound Oakley was a power forward for Chicago, New York, Toronto, Washington and Houston between 1985 and 2004. Now an assistant coach with Charlotte, he developed a reputation over the years as an enforcer, rebounding machine and Jordan's bodyguard.
Report: Owners Initially Asked For $45 Million Hard Cap
May 16, 2011 3:21 PM EDT

Stern_David_nba_091008a.jpg

The NBA’s initial proposal for a new collective-bargaining deal called for a $45 million per team hard salary cap along with non-guaranteed player contracts and significant cuts in annual salary increases.

The details, spelled out in an April 26 memo issued by National Basketball Players Association Executive Director Billy Hunter, marks the league’s push for a major overhaul of the NBA’s economic model and emphasizes to players an aggressive bid to significantly slash costs and shorten contracts.

The memo was sent to all NBA players and was dated just days prior to the league delivering to the union a new labor proposal, which a source said still included the $45 million hard cap but added a phase-in of the cap over a few years. Union president Derek Fisher publicly dismissed the latest proposal as too similar to the original proposal.

The memo’s most eye-popping element is the league’s proposed $45 million hard cap, which cuts the current $58 million soft cap by nearly 25 percent.

If Thats how they're playing it lock out here we come
30t6p3b.gif

those poor owners. signing role players to 11 million dollar contracts. it's not fair. people put a gun up to their heads and made them sign.

Owners give Joe Johnson 126 million dollars and then tell the players they need to be locked out.
eyes.gif

@#$% do you expect Joe Johnson to say when you show him that contract?  I woulda signed it with a ski mask on.

I was wondering about that Rivers quote about Perk bein traded messin up their season.  Uh, is it me, or did Ainge just give Rivers 35 million dollars, and now Rivers wants to call out the GM for this season?  Huh?
ohwell.gif
Ainge musta loved that little gem.

^ CP if you read the article he actually made it seem as if he traded him like he was behind it all.

Said he didn't foresee all of the consequences with him making that trade... That was odd to me.

Give credit where it's due. You're just blatantly ignoring the facts at this point.
