This just doesn't make sense to me.
How is he inexperienced? Just because he wasn't a head coach before?

Look what he has done with that Ravens defense as their defensive coordinator, something we slacked upon towards the later half of the season (our defensiveplay).

It's also the "Ryan family business" so to speak. His brother we all know is Rob Ryan, and his dad his Buddy Ryan.

I had to rub my eyes

Wouldn't NOT ever being a head coach qualify you as "inexperienced"

And so what about his daddy.

Don shula's kids went into coaching and they were horrible.

I'm indifferent.

who else was gona be hired? Cowher said no...

Shannanan? wouldn't excite me.

Russ Grimm.....Spags...same boat as Ryan.

B. Schottenheimer...hell no
.

Yeah but Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Haloti Naghta, Suggs, Rolle, etc etc ain't comin with him.

What he did in Baltimore was run a defense full of studs and that's it. Now he has to run a defense less talented AND run the offense, coaching, decisionmaking, and all that comes with. That ain't easy.

And he gets to do vs the Bills in the same division. No, not Buffalo, Bill Beli, and Bill Parcells.

Rex Ryan is not a good move its another inexperienced coach when you have some Superbowl winning coaches out there available, Jets are backwards.

Who do you guys think should have been hired?
Why not go after Gruden? He worked in GB with Brett, tried to acquire Brett in Tampa, loves working with vet QB's and once Brett walks away, then Jon could go about his system and his plan or whatever. He's at least a competent coach, you know what you get with the guy. Rex is just nothing butquestions.

Now I don't know if Gruden would want the job, or take a year off or whatever, but he's the first name that comes to mind.

WHAT!?!? did you, change my post?

I said wasn't a head coach before, not was.

CP1708, I know what you are saying, but I feel Rex can do a job done disciplining the team in practices and whatnot, especially the defense. This defense hastalent, not the same type that the Ravens have, but they have talent.

Sutton is an awful DC, and with Rex leading the charge as head coach, I hope he has a lot of input with the defense.

Gruden did a good, if not a great job when he was with the Raiders (in this business, its what have you done for me lately.) But after winning the SuperBowl in his first year in Tampa with Dungy's players, what did he accomplish? Well, only two playoff appearances (both first round exit) in six seasons. Besides, why would Woody want to hire him when he fired Mangini for perhaps the same reason why Gruden was dismissed? (both coaches had similar (not as bad aGruden though) catastrophic ending to their season.) With that being said, I know what I'd get from Gruden, no playoff birth or playoff and first roundexit. This is why I'd choose the question mark, because not only is he cheaper, but he could end up being a much better coach than Gruden.

Anyhow, I believe Ryan was hired because he's a 3-4 defensive specialist (can also coach the 4-3 and 4-6) which is what we're built to run. Grudenis an offensive coach, and to me we needed more help on defense.
Sounds like an older version of Mangini - LiL Stevie728

Ryan has a lot more coaching experience than Mangini ever had when he became the Jets' coach; you can't dismiss its significance.

Look, if all else fails, we'll hire Buddy to run up and down the the sidelines punching out players and coaches.

I'd pay PSL prices to see that.

But forreal, we're in a pickle as far as players, contracts, and talent goes. So the guy best suited to, at least, get us further in the right directionwith our current roster, out of the current coaching pool, has to be Rex Ryan.

There is no one else.

... Now, we just have to wait for Favre to retire....

BTW - As of right now, I'm in full, 100% support of cutting Favre and having a QB competition during training camp.

Kellen Clemens, here's your chance.....

Kellen Clemens pt. II.

I don't know why people are thinking Ratliff can carry this team. Ok, he did look good during the pre-season... but that was against backups. Yeah, wedidn't see his full potential to automatically judge the guy, but he is an undrafted free agent for a reason. If he wins out the starting position intraining camp, then yeah, he deserves it. But I just don't get why so many fans are jumping on the Ratliff bandwagon.

the veteran QB's in the FA market don't excite me as well... Leftwich? Boller? hell no.

Copp 2 Of Em, what about Jeff Garcia? Is he a Free Agent?

I feel like I would take him for a season or two at this point, and the off-season truly hasn't begun yet

Yeah I'm pretty sure he's a free agent.
I guess I wouldn't mind him, but I here the Bucs might take him back because of the weak market for a QB, unless they do something else in the draft. Therewere talks he may leave because the relationship between him and Gruden turned sour, but we all know what happened to Chucky.
He would have a been a good fit for us though as he specializes in the West Coast offense. Our personnel on offense is more suited for the west coast offenseactually, where we don't have the wide receivers to long-bomb it too. Cotchery and Coles are more possession receivers, better on the slant and quickroutes.
That's why I think a WR is an important position to look at in this draft in order to spread the offense out a little more.

it's ok...

We weren't going to get Cowher... so we needed a big personality as the Head Coach.

^ didn't know Dirty was a Jets fan.

I don't see why Rex Ryan can't be a capable head coach in the league. I see our 3-4 being more aggressive, than Mangini's softer approach.

His press conference was today. I just caught some of the replay on SNY, and I'm +*%$**% pumped.

His words had great meaning, but he said them in such a humble tone. Some quotes that caught my eye, and many others.

"The Jets are coming with all we got and we think it's more than you can handle."

"Read and react is for other teams, we are going to attack on both sides of the ball."

"Take one swipe at one of our guys we will take two swipes at two of yours."

I especially loved when he said how on, specifically the defensive side of the ball, he wants to get the crowd more involved. The "12thman" of sorts like the Seahawks fans play the role of. He also is looking forward to working with Gholston, and he thought highly of Kerry Rhodes.

"The Jets are coming.." ... ah, tell me that doesn't have you pumped?

Oh yeah, looks like Bob Sutton is GONE

I didn't see it myself, but I read that apparently Rex said that he is brining Mike Pettine from Baltimore with him in to become our DC.

finally...no more having Rhodes blitz from 30 yrs out.
lets see how Gholston progresses with some real guidance

Knew this was going to happen. Mike said he was going to be loyal to Rex and follow him wherever he goes.
He also stated that if Rex were to be a head coach, that Rex would still call the shots on the defensive end... and that Mike is down with that.
Either way, I'm liking what the Jets are doing so far...
now hopefully Schottenheimer jr. can remain as a OC.

All I know is that, the fans that didn't want Ryan as the coach and saw his introductory conference and didn't have a change of heart then they'rehard to please. I mean, when was the last time one of our head coaches put pressure on themselves and talk about the Super Bowl? Yes, I know these are onlywords, but he seems to be a great motivator/teacher (no wonder the Ravens defensive guys love him.) No more will see read and react defense, rather attack, attack, attack, and most importantly, the qb won't know where the blitzes are coming from. I'm really excited to have him as the captain of our ship.

No link, but news of the day in Jet land.

Ray Lewis talked with the NFL Network while in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, and said the Jets are an "attractive" option with Rex Ryan, his defensive coordinator in Baltimore, now Jets head coach.

"That's a great opportunity, reason being we've been together for years," Lewis said. "We won a Super Bowl together and the mentality that we both need to sit down and understand each other and understand what's best for our defense and what's best for our team.

"That relationship by itself is a match, because of the relationship me and Rex have always had. That opportunity by itself looks attractive, seems attractive."
