Why is philly even seeking offers for okafor? I thought they were tanking for picks, but now they're just trading them?

They want to see if there is a King's Ransom for him.

And considering where the NBA is there isn't.

That's best case..

Worst case... Hinkie sees the same thing in Okafor that he saw in MCW.

^ was thinking the same thing

doesn't hurt to test the waters, never know what a team is willing to give up.

I suppose, but MCW isn't nearly as good as okafor. If he commits to defense and increases his rebounds by about 2-3per, he can be their franchise player. They haven't had such talent since AI.

He's certainly better than MCW... Obviously....That was just a worst case of why Hinkie could be listening for trades.

But it's not just about committing to defense. He can certainly improve as a rim protector. But he doesn't have the capability to defend a Pick & Roll.. Not even decently. Think of how Pau Gasol defends the pick & roll since 2011, something like that. And that's really huge in a fast pace NBA world. You can get 2-3 blocks, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're a good defensive player, especially if teams will P&R you to death. He either has to come out to defend it and the PG blows past him or gets help defense to open up a corner 3. Or he just gives a bunch of room and leaves an open 12-15 footer.

As for increasing his rebounds... That's easier said than done. It isn't just about how many rebounds. It's the rate at which he's able to get rebounds.

He's significantly bad at that.. Currently 47th out of 59 Centers... Tied with Al Jefferson. He's ahead of Nene, Marc Gasol, Al Horford, Roy HIbbert.. But not really by much. A historic comparison his 13.3 rebound rate is what Hibbert was at in his rookie season.

And the problem with defense and rebounds.. At least in the case for Marc Gasol & a couple years ago Roy Hibbert.. Is that when you put yourself in defensive position, and fully commit, you often take yourself out completely of play for the rebound. It's why Hibbert & Marc Gasol are less than 8rpg career. Despite being guys big enough that you just assume it's a nightly 10+ rebounds.

If Okafor wanted to improve his rebounding, he'd have to sacrifice defense (a la Kevin Love)... If he wanted to get more committed to defense, it's at the trade off of rebounding.. Doing both just isn't likely because of the type of player he is

Even if the knicks don't make a trade and don't make playoffs, I'm still a happy fan.  We have a lottery pick that is showing promise.  A player with potential we have not had since ewing.  everyone needs to chill

The point in shopping Okafor is that he's their best player right now. Letting him go means they're headed for the number one pick indefinitely.

Also, the have a log jam of bigs. They're banking on Embiid back for next year. With him, Okafor, an Noel, there is no room. Get what you can for Okafor (or the other bigs) was always the idea

i feel like shopping embiid is a better idea. i mean THEY dont know if this guy will ever live up to the hype, but at least they can may try to get a mid first rounder for him, since they already have their 2 bigs of the future. the sixers are definitely going backwards and have no plan for competing in the next 10 years.

Noel + Saric fits perfectly with the direction the current NBA is heading.

Okafor + Embiid are good trade baits. I'd move both while they have value.

thing with Embiid is that he's a gamble for them, but no team is going to give up anything of worthy quality for a big that hasn't played a game yet and is dealing with injuries. Sixers have time to see if he pans out.

Berman: Rambis said when he went out on court for practice, nothing was brewing. Calderon still seemed on edge. "Just takes one call.''
