Mine got the "yellow light of death" on Thursday. I don't know much about the disc read error but I'm sure if you look on google you'llfind some answers.
I spent 6 hours today taking apart my PS3, fixing the problem and re-assembling it. Very well worth it considering I was near forking over 150 dollars for Sonyto repair it for me.

Yo, OP same thing happened to me today
Turned on the system FIFA loaded
then after quick match system freezes
doesn't read any disc anymore
troubleshooted all afternoon no luck( tried the recovery)
This must have something to do with firmware update
