Also there was this live Q&A show after the premiere and the host asked to describe their character in one word. Malek said "committed". You get committed to mental institution. Not a bad theory. I initially thought she looked a little masculine in the face. Maybe he calls her hot Carla in the literal sense due to her love of fire. Might be a stretch though.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. His mother made me question everything about his day. Sometimes I forget that Elliot is an unreliable narrator. We're just along for the ride in his head.

The psych ward theory makes a lot of sense. I just can't rationalize how quickly he went from being a loaner to having a best friend and hanging out at local pickup games with the guys.

When you first see him in his room it looks like he's staying in an institution. His mom wakes him up at a certain time, it's dark in the room along with most of the house. He has to make his bed after waking up and tuck in the sheets all nice. Then you realize it's his mom and her place and wonder WTH is going on.
