albooboo albooboo How do we fare as far as signing FA's? Is Oakland as an attractive team this offseason say compared to Oakland after the 2016 season?

That money should be used on Bowman.

they made dude a offer, overspending on one player would be a greater misuse.

also the numbers aren't even out yet, wouldn't be surprised if all those dudes only equal like 5m against the cap.

Same thing I said in the NFL thread:

What a stupid tweet.

I'm not trynna defend every move the Raiders make but what vets are they loading up with?

I get hating Carr is the thing to do, but literally the only players 30 or over on the ENTIRE roster are:
Donald Penn
Bruce Irvin
Marshawn Lynch
Jared Cook
Jordy Nelson

that's it. Only 1 of these players weren't on the team last year. Doug Martin is 29 and signed to a 1 year prove it deal so he doesn't even count.

Nobody thinks the raiders have a super bowl roster. All they are doing is signing short term contracts with no real money committed. This is a 100000x better than overpaying for washed players like they used to.

Make fun of the Raiders for signing Gruden, for signing FBs/TEs, for signing Doug Martin, but loading up on vets for a Super Bowl run?

Must be two offseasons because I don't see it.

Gruden is trying to make a run for glory and deliver a championship to Oakland before we leave in two years.

I think the reference to veterans is about player with more than 6 years of experience.
This team should be targeting young impact players this offseason. The reason for signing veterans player 28 and older. Is due to the lack of homegrown talent and player development courtesy of del Rio and his staff.

We did okay. Filled in a few needs. Still need 2x CB, MLB and another WR.

Some of today's sign are due to Gruden being the Raiders HC. This team would be more attractive if some of our young players stepped up. Outside of Carr, Mack, Cooper and Jackson.

If del rio was still our HC. I doubt Nelson signs here.

I doubt both Lee Smith and Kevin Smith make the roster. Maybe K.Smith on ST. I would be disappointed. If we missed out on Bowman over 3.5 million for guys who might not make the roster.

If we lose Bowman our LB Core takes a step back in talent. It will now guarantee us taking a LB at #10 during the draft. Instead of giving us options during the draft.

Without Bowman our LB Core consists of Irvin, Whitehead, Lee, James, Morrow and Sheldon.

I feel you but I look at it the opposite way. This team isn't 1 or 2 players away. The young players haven't developed and the cupboard is kinda empty.

What impact free agent would you have preferred and how much of a difference would that player have even made? Every young player got damn near 10 mil plus and the raiders only had like 25-30 mil in cap space right? None of the contacts the raiders signed are long term or big money. To me this is a transition year. Next year is the year they go for the division, make a splash in free agency and try and build momentum for the Vegas move.

I would've liked to see them go for the Honey Badger, Richardson or ARob but in reality none of those players are putting this team over the top.

I don't see why this offense can't be as prolific as it was in 2016.

Give Mack a DT and some competent CB's and who knows how this might out...

They definitely can but they need the young players on defense to step up. They've spent high picks on Joseph, Conley, Obi & Ward and got pretty much nothing out of them. We need those young players in the secondary to develop and produce. If they do that, who knows what can happen.

They overachieved in 2016 & underachieved last year. This year should be a true indicator of where we're at.

I agree. This team is at least 5 players away. At the moment the way the roster stands. I would prefer sitting out free agency and developing our players.

If del rio was able to develop a few players.
We could have signed a couple impact free agent this offseason. Like A-Rob, Honey Badger and maybe Richardson. Lets say if Roberts, Ward, Amerson, James and Calhoun were developed and properly coached. It would have allowed us to cut or let go Crabtree, Irvin, S. Smith, Bowman. It would allow us to sign at least 2 of the 3 previously mentioned free agents.

I feel like they're going back to that bully ball with these blocking TEs and moving Olawale to WR or TE sometimes to get him more involved. We have 11 young players in the upcoming draft.

The only thing that concerns me. Is if we fall behind. Our offense will not be explosive enough to ditch the run and airing it out. We still need an extra receiver.

If Gruden is implementing a power run style offense. We need our run blocking scheme to be the same. Not like last year running a zone blocking scheme. Our OL is built with road graders.

Yeah we definitely need the defense to get good fast because the offense doesn't look that great. Hopefully Coop steps up this year.

yeah, I don't disagree with what you're saying.

I also feel that if Gruden prioritizes these guys to get the offense going than I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Keith Smith is a good run blocker and also played a lot of special teams under our new ST coach.

Carrier also played a lot in the Rams offense, yeah mostly blocking but if he can help with whatever Olsen brings over then I'm with it.

We already know what Lee Smith brings and thankfully he restructured.

Not saying these are slam dunks and they're for sure not flashy but I can see how the make sense.

I feel like we can improve almost every position.

WR is where we need to improve don't expect Nelson to stay healthy. Hopefully we draft 2 WRs and maybe Gruden has some plays for Flash. Holton can stay on ST dont need his Turnovers.

Amari needs to step up and be the guy, need Jordy to be the reliable hands move the sticks guy.

The wildcard is Patterson, need him to make plays consistently and not just home run plays.

I don't know about Roberts, for every play he makes he's equally as bad.

Shareece Wright either visiting or signed. Not sure which one.

All I remember from his time in SF, Min & Buf is he's trash but whatever.
