there should be a special nba thread where only people banned from nt or banned from the NBA thread can post
thoughts?he has to be in a laker uniform tho
can u do something like that with my steph curry face and put a NK tag on it?
You're wrong but I understand where you're coming from, pointless to continue to talk about it cause you're obviously stuck in your ways.
Jordan hasn't been bypassed by anyone statistically though so it ain't just nostalgia why he has his position like you're using with Magic.
Ok, I was on my phone earlier, now I can type more freely on CPU.
What stats are you referring too? Are you basing this on PER? (I didn't read the ESPN article cuz, ESPN, so not sure what you mean by stats on Chris's side)
Here's what I know.
Magic played 900 games. His career cut short at 12 seasons. He played 2 years in college.
900 games, he had 138 Triple Doubles, that I know of.
In the past few months, NBA.com brought out old boxscores and I began trying to track down Magic's game by game stuff. Lengthy, but I do **** like that.
138 Triple Doubles, do you have ANY idea how many 10-10-9's there were? We're talking a rebound here, an assist there, a point somewhere from him approaching 250 Triple Doubles in 900 games.
I mentioned the 6-9 thing as a point that he rebounded better than any PG, ever. 7.2 PER GAME for a PG.
19.5 Pts
11.2 Ast
7.2 Rbs
2 stls
36.7 min
PER, game. 52% shooting. 85% free throws. The 3 point line didn't even join his era til midway thru his career. He took less than 50 3's a season for 9 years, and then the final 3 years of his career began shooting them alot. 188, 276, and 250 attempts those years.
In just the playoffs for Magic
19.5 Pts
12.3 Ast
7.7 Rbs
2 Stls
39.7 min
His two college years?
17.1
7.6
7.9
CP3 to this point
18.6 Pts
9.9 Ast
4.4 Rbs
2.4 Stls
36.5 min
.472 % and 86% free throws.
Playoffs
20.9
9.5
5.0
2.2
39.6 min
.482% and 83%
CP also played 2 years in college
15.0
6.3
3.9
So, what stats are we going by? Offensive Rating? Where Paul is #1, and Magic is #3, and Reggie Miller is #2? Kiki Vandeweghe and Sidney Moncrief in 5th and 6th place. Jose Calderon #9 ALL TIME? This our ruler?
Is it PER? Where Paul has a 1 point edge on Magic, again, in different eras, where Magic didn't get the usage of the 3 point ball that CP3 has, both for scoring, and assisting? Or maybe the rules in place for today's guards where you can't touch a guy, but in Magic's day you could clothesline a teammate and it's just a personal foul?
What stats are we using that say Chris Paul is going to surpass Magic?
Again, I stayed off wins, titles, etc, I just used what you are allowing me, numbers.
Cuz if I just took out what game it was, but rookie Magic as we all know started a game at Center, dropped 42-15-7 WITHOUT the other star everyone would want to bring up, and did so ON THE ROAD.
Chris Paul, as a Rookie, goin to line up at Center, in Philly, without David West (or whoever his best teammate is) and win a game on the road, with 42-15-7, again, at Center for that game?
Is Paul lookin to flirt with 250+ Triple Doubles in 900 games, and I don't even know the playoff counts, but I know Magic got more in the postseason than anybody in history.
What stats are you using, to tell me and the rest of us Chris Paul is comin for Magic's title? I would like to view them please.
CP - you should e-mail your last post to the dude that wrote the article for ESPN and ask him to respond.
I looked it just now, he's basing it off advanced stats.
The whole I find in that is again, 3 point line.
Magic gets X many assists on 3 pointers in 1988
CP3 gets X many assists on 3 pointers in 2008
3 pointers in 2008 were in the thousands, so who created more points? Chris Paul.
They could both have 500 assists, but if 150 of Chris's are 3's due to era/style, how do those numbers balance out generationally?
Magic played in a faster era tho, against barbaric defensive rules compared to the soft as tissue defense you have to play now, so I have no idea how you quantify that.
I do know one thing. In his own link to reference .com, when explaining some of their formulas, they couldn't get turnover numbers for the early 70's, so they would calculate off of team turnovers, and divide by a bunch of **** to create the numbers for guys like Kareem, etc. They basically just filled in some blanks with made up numbers to then give a "value" to Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
Come on.
I like numbers, I'm growing on the whole advanced stuff, I'm learning. I don't just summarily dispute them or throw them out the window. But the numbers I posted are pretty telling. I can't even get the total of Double Doubles Magic had in his career, because I can't get the full box scores for his career. But the 4-5 years I could get, he was an absolute freaking machine. Some of his games are just a joke.
I love Chris Paul, please nobody think I am bashing this man. He is THEE best PG in this era by a wide margin. Love his game. (minus the flopping)
I am NOT disrespecting the man.
Magic, is Magic.
I have a few examples. Mean nothin, don't mean nothin, you decide.
Magic retires, 1991.
Comes back, 1995. Older, fatter.
First game back. FIRST, game, back, in the NBA, 4 years later.
19 pts, 10 assists, 8 rebounds.
27 minutes.
Get the **** outta here Magic.
91, his final year, heading to the playoffs, this is without Kareem, Worthy breaking down, the Divac, Sam Perkins, Magic led team.
Consecutive games, at age 31
19, 14, 12 (pts, asts, rebs)
23, 12, 10
19, 10, 3 (He played 2 quarters folks)
30, 10, 12
10, 14, 9
20, 9, 9
31, 8, 8
He's like a couple extra quarters, 2-3 rebs and assists from 7 straight triple doubles, and this isn't even his prime, and with the least amount of talent around him in his career.
That was Magic.
Not the old guy in 95 that eventually pushed a ref into a scorers table, or the horrible announcer we all make fun of, that, was Magic. Triple Double threat every, single, game.
88-89 he had 17 Triple Doubles. He had TEN, games with 9 rebounds. TEN. That's 27 Triple Doubles with 10 boards over the course of an 82 game season.
I'm sorry, but there isn't a better PG than that. Stockton, Nash, Paul, they can shoot, they can create, they can pass, they can run an offense, they could never, ever, ever do that. Never.
I'm sorry.
Does the cap hold not get lifted until a player officially signs his contract or is renounced? That may be a problem for the Lakersyeah but before he signs we will be making calls and he will be sending texts so we will have a decent idea of who we can get
the only way kobe takes a pay cut is if we sign a few big names to give him a chance for #6
He has to sign first or else we are sticking on his cap hold of $30mil
Actually...
there should be a special nba thread where only people banned from nt or banned from the NBA thread can post in
would just be acb, dbd, mjshoe, zodog
could be good entertainment
