**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Nance is out there fighting for these rebounds and playing D, good to see him back, he hasn't been playing too great before tonight since he came back from injury...

To give him normal rest ?

He's 20 with old man game, why does he need so much rest? It's not like he's playing like iverson out there

Luke should break routine once in a while especially when Dlos counterpart is going off

The team is missing in the words of Reggie Jackson in the 1970s "the straw that stirs the drink."

They shot like crap, but we really fought to stay in, and did the entire game....

We have some really good talent, but we're missing the established veteran guy who can say "Alright, this is mine"

Get that guy.... Take some extra time coloring around the edges with players that fill needs, and I like this team going forward.

Good games from DLo and Brandon. Nance with that double double :hat

Lou and Nick always the dependable vets... Jordy gotta bounce back next game. Seemed to have had tired legs

Lou will gotta go, he nice but all he do is shoot. bench has no flow of offense. Clarkson need to be with an effect passing PG

And then like y'all said we need a solid dude to go to in the 4th

Clarkson looks okay with Russell.. But I'd rather keep Nick with DLo just because he's a better shooter.

It sucks because I think Ingram & Russell can be 4th quarter guys, but they are not ready for it

Don't set the bar so low for Dlo. He shot 8-20 and IT scored 38 (understanding that's not all on Dlo but still)

As he develops he has to step up in the 4th quarters of winnable games , like Lou did

The more I see Nance play, the more I think..."do we really need julius?" .   To get a star, we need to part with our talent....julius has the bigger name, and if packaged right...i think we can sell high.

IDK what's up with Russell, I see what whip is saying now, dude can get 15-6-6 etc all he wants, dude is out here playing like James harden the last couple of years, NO effort on defense and as slow as a rock.

I think eventually he will start to play better though. Let that boy grow

It's just so hard for him to keep up with the PGs that are superior athletically than him, which at the moment, is a lot of the starting PGs out there. DLo is slow, and has no lift. The only real advantage he has is his height.

He gets screwed on P&R more than anything.....

A lot of the other things are attention to detail (More aware off the ball as to not get caught sleeping, how to position yourself on ball, how to force somebody to go a specific direction)

But on a P&R he has trouble getting around the screen.... And even when he's fighting to get through the screen our Big guarding the roll man doesn't even do anything to slow down the ball handler, so DLo or any of our guards can recover or pick up Moz's or Deng's or Randle's man (Not just a Russell thing)

You 100% right, I commented on this about clarkson too. It seems whenever they get hit with that pick it's too late for them to recover and nobody picks up the ball handler, that's why clarkson is always chasing behind whoever has the ball tryna catch up

I noticed this A LOT being at the game last night vs. the Wiz. Every single time they get caught in the screen, they would be behind the offensive player, leaving the bigs 1 on 1 with either Wall or Beal.

Agreed, and when he wants to use his height vs IT, he does a 18 ft fadeaway. That's not "posting up" to me

My biggest gripe, since I've accepted he has below average speed/athleticism, is his lack of agression

Look at that late 4th quarter play where Lou got 3 FTs. Dlo got a screen from Nance and swung it cross court to Nick instead of making a hard dribble to the left where he had the entire half of the court to blow by Horford to the rim

Be agressive. Be be agressive

Bro it happens EVERY SINGLE GAME MULTIPLE TIMES.

honestly stuff like that makes me think basketball is kinda planned to a certain extent, or we sucking, not on purpose but we not doing anything about it on purpose. cuz you mean to tell me an average joe can watch enough games and see that **** happening but a NBA COACH and NBA PLAYERS who watch film every day can't see that and address it?

I'm pretty sure the guards are going over the screen to prevent the open three and it's the job of the bigs to contain so the guard can recover.

When Magic says we are one player away from keeping up with the best teams, what he really means is we are one player away from making the playoffs to give us an opportunity to make some noise.

You may be shocked at what might end up happening, but I certainly won't because it's expected.
Randle on his way out yo...if it ain't by the deadline, he'll be packing his bags come summer time. DLo seems to be playing with more urgency, and this may just buy him some time

Julius doesn't fit, I've been saying that :lol

We have a tough time defending the pick and roll partly because none of our perimeter players can get over screens and communication from the bigs. The bigs have to call those screens out and rotate from weakside to protect the hedge. We got pummeled in P&R tonight b/c the weakside man was Lou Will. So even when Larry switched or pushed a hard hedge, the weakside would give up a layup or offensive board. Then Luke made his worse coaching move of the night by switching Brandon on IT. Brandon gets swallowed on picks because of his thin frame, even tho he has great length and quickness him defending IT in that scenario was a bad idea

And 8/20 on a back to back against the two MVP candidates ain't bad for a second year guard. The thing I like is D LO is playing with effort. He's rebounding better too, and although he can't get to the cup off the dribble, he's managing to use his size to get 3 or 4 extra looks below the the FT line.

Before the injury those 3 or 4 shots would've been bad three point shots.
