That's revisionist B.S. People were clamoring in long lines at outlets to get the 2011 Banneds before that photo was even taken.

Yeah what you're missing is that the overlap was mostly with sneaker heads at the time. They weren't making many 1's from 2011-2013, especially not with OG details, so I find it hard to credit him wearing them in 2011 with moving the needle. Kanye and the hype on 1's from sneaker heads met. And it makes sense, at a certain point back then he was in touch with what we were into. But I don't think him wearing Breds really has any bearing on why the Banneds were a moment in 2011.Mainly die hard sneaker heads. Jordan 1s weren't mainstream fashion wise until Ye wore em.
It wasn't just Banned ones. I remember people going back and trying to get 2001 Jordan 1 breds/royals. Specifically those because he wore those versions. People bought the banned 1s because they couldn't get the 2001 version.Yeah what you're missing is that the overlap was mostly with sneaker heads at the time. People were trying to get any NA 1 at that time. That's what I take issue with. They had deprived the market of OG 1's done anywhere near correctly for the better part of a dozen years. There wasn't some huge mass market going out looking for 1's but there was a lot of sneaker heads who wanted them due to their scarcity regardless of whether Kanye was wearing them or not.It wasn't just Banned ones. Wanting sneakers because a rapper wore them is strange behaviour. Lol
I’m not sure what context would make it weird to like a signature athlete’s shoe. If someone else fashioning a 30 year old shoe in public made you a fan… so be it, that’s cool I guess. but I still think that’s way different than someone idolizing their favorite player in one of their best shoes.as opposed to a basketball player?

It's age dependent I feel.
If you're a grown man it's strange.
But as a little kid, I envied what was on the feet of Rakim, B.D.P., Biz, Kane, etc. etc. When you're young, you want sneakers of those you look up to if they're cool peoples. Rappers, athletes, older dudes from around the way, etc.

I think what he was referring to was all Jumpman-branded AJ1s back in 2013. OG versions were 140.All I know is ‘13 AJ1s we’re not $110.
Kanye and Kid Cudi had a huge influence on my fashion back in middle school I can’t lie. Them dudes was fresh af to me back in the day. Def agree that Kanye and a lot of fresh Asians in my area were the ppl that really made me start wanting 1’s more. 2012-2013ish. I was a 3, 5,6,8 11,12,13 type of kid growing up. Different era

Had AF1s before Nelly made a song about em. I don’t even associate Jay with AF1s. And I have never owned a pair of Adidas Superstars.Jay-Z and Nelly with the AF1s (Uptowns) along with Run DMC with Adidas Superstars would like to have a word with you
That's because they're made as cheap as possible. The 85s feel better due to the board lasting and the better insoleIf I remember correctly, I read somewhere that they improved the comfort on their upcoming release. That’s literally my only gripe with the Jordan 1’s. They are so uncomfortable with the soles being super thin to the point you feel the ground pavement
