NY Post - A rabid Jets fan ticked off the wrong person - an off-duty San Diego cop - by loudly cheering his team's playoff upset Sunday against the Chargers. In what has become a YouTube sensation, several San Diego officers are seen roughly handcuffing New York native Bill Carroll for allegedly being drunk and resisting police. Carroll - who had been shouting "J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets!" near the off-duty officer - told The Post yesterday, "I wasn't doing anything wrong. I was just watching the game. "What's wrong with me saying, 'Jets, Jets, Jets?' " He said he had just three beers over four hours and cops refused to let him take a Breathalyzer test to prove he was sober. The officers "were just totally out of line, and they wouldn't listen to reason," said Steve Sevigny, a Charger fan who witnessed the arrest. "The poor guy was just totally busted for nothing." Carroll, 43, a construction manager from Mission Viejo, Calif., spent 15 hours in jail. Assistant Police Chief Bob Kanaski - insisting "we don't arrest people for cheering for their teams" - said Sgt. Jeff Sterling approached Carroll after the off-duty cop sent a text message reporting a drunk causing a disturbance. Sterling said he asked Carroll three time to "come upstairs" to talk, but he refused and made a fist. Carroll said Sterling only asked him once and he refused to leave the stands because he didn't want to miss the game and wasn't misbehaving. "The second I turned around, I got pushed down and attacked by those four officers," he said. But Carroll is convinced there are more victories to come. "They're going to the Super Bowl, babe!" he vowed.

Just saw this today- maybe late
but smh

As a diehard Charger fan I am disgusted by this BS. Let the man root for whoever he wants to root for. He paid for his ticket, he should be able to root inpeace without threat of getting manhandled... especially by some cops. Degenerating into Black Hole/Raider Nation type of buffoonery (the cops that is)

cmon really? What if the tables were turned. What if the Chargers were up and some Charger fan sitting behind the visitors bench (typically more visitorsfans in this area) started shouting the San Diego Superchargers theme song to everyone. Do you think a cop would be "right" to tackle this dude andtake him away for taunting?

They've been talking about this on NYC sports talk radio. The truth is the tape cuts off and cuts back in. A lot of things could have taken place withinthe missing time. It's not fair to judge he didn't do anything based off a cut-up video clip.

interesting take. I tend to agree just a bit. they are protecting him from himself essentially, as it could easily be 2,000 against 2.

I saw something similar happen at a college game. It couldve gotten bad but the home team pulled away and the 6 fans from the other team started to quiet down.but early on, noone wanted to hear any of their mess... Cheering loudly against the home team is usually frowned upon quite substantially.

You serious?

Even sitting the in Bleachers at Yankee stadium, as long as you're not talkin' garbage to the Yankee fans around you, you won't have any problems.

Some dudes car got totaled just for having Jets all over his windshield's etc.
Another guy in Manhattan got a ticket for that also.
We taking it this year though.

I'm sorry but I rather get jumped by fans because I was taunting the home team than being taken advantage of by some power tripping cops for doing nothingwrong

overly obnoxious cheering, at a level 2-3 times more than those in that section for the home team, can stir so much trouble.

noone wants to hear any sort of chanting or cheering exceeding whats taking place by the home fans.. believe that..

"not talkin' garbage"... im telling you, obnoxious cheering in general catches nerves just as much as real trash talk.

I dont believe that one bit that at yankee stadium a fan can walk in and be over the top in a positive manner and the fans would accept that.. words would beexchanged on both sides, and then one dude whos had enough will go in.. its just a simple recipe for a beatdown no matter what.

from my experience of attending live events, usually when someone is escorted out from being disorderly, the crowd erupts in cheers. the lack of the cheershere, makes believe he was completely in line while cheering for his team
