JAMES BOND movie thread: RIP Sir Sean Connery - NO TIME TO DIE 10/08/21

The problem is that Hollywood is lazy and since representation is the wave right now, they'll turn a character into a woman but there's no good material written for them so it feels like just pandering. It's just HEY I'm a woman, a man can't do this (they have since movies were invented so it sounds ridiculous). Give me strong bad *** females kicking *** and showing me how them being a woman makes them better for the job in the plot not telling me over and over again. I love Furiosa in MM Fury Road. She was a bad *** who wasn't playing no games. She had her motivation, the movie was about Max running into women who decided there was more to life than being a patriarch's property and it was well done.
I'm not exactly sure if that's the case here so I'll reserve judgment until I see it.
I'm all for black actors getting work but I don't like them being the sacrificial lamb for Hollywood's pandering.

I wrote entirely too much.

Probably in the minority but I'm not a big fan of Craig's Bond. 007 has always been a cocky, swaggy, playboy, not give a **** dude and I get they wanted to show he was a stone cold guy to start but he's been like that every movie. Craig does a great job, just not the Bond I really want.
Who's y'alla fave 007?
Connery always gonna be 1 to me
Brosnan was perfect for him too

IMO, Craig’s bond has been all that *kanye shrug

Craig has been one of my favorite bonds. If the writing was stronger for QOS and Spectre, I think Craig could have been the top Bond.

Brosnan started off really strong with goldeneye but his movies after that got so cheesy

Connery forever the best Bond.

Brosnan was really good too but in comparison Connery makes him look like a pretty boy.

I get the complaints with Craig. He's more rugged and never really nailed that balance of being a suave charming dude as well.

Dalton the most ruthless Bond

the success of the Bourne trilogy made the writers realize it was time for a refresh, and moviegoers grew tired of Bonds of the past.

Craig is my favorite
honestly figured he never showed those qualities because these films are his first missions, so he's still learning the ropes.

Worst decision was to try to link them all like they did in Spectre, think that brought down the overall qualities of the arc

Yeah I think linking them and trying to now transition him into the classic bond was a bad move though I get that's where it was headed. I liked the kinda gritty, brutal, not as smooth yet new 007 that Craig played.

They really wasted Craig for most of these movies. Casino Royale was the best and great. Skyfall was quality but for me needed more fun.

Skyfall had some great moments but just as many cringey-nostalgia moments that made your eyes roll.

Craig is fantastic. Timothy Dalton is slept on. Both are more true to the books, Bond was more hardcore and more of a killer. Connery did a great job but turned the character into a playboy. I’m a Roger Moore fan too.

Im old enough to remember the backlash Craig got for being blonde. It was a huge uproar.

On HULU there is a fascinating documentary called “Becoming Bond”. Utterly amazing story.

Craig was a great Bond, I think they just overall missed the mark with this series. Casino Royale was great and rather than continuing on that thread and story, I would have liked to see Bond go right into a regular mission storyline. Something fresh and new but we kept going with the Vesper story and oh well. Then Skyfall bond was already old and washed? Skyfall was great but it felt like they just jumped the timeline a bit... but they literally set up the end of Skyfall to be like "Okay, so now let's get back to work" but isntead of going into the 4th one with just a simple storyline, they made it his foster brother was secretly behind everything the whole time??? with no hints or set up? If that was the last one, I'd be more okay with it, but it was just one good, one bad, repeat. So hopefully they end on a high note.

I always felt Skyfall was a mix somehow of Batman the dark night/dark knight rises and with the villian wanting to get caught and of course an aging Bruce Wayne/james bond. And the end was awful fighting in the old castle.

I always felt quantum was the best movie out of the Craig series . Closed vesper, not a very long movie, lots of action but a main weak villian. And the Aston at the beginning

I just watched skyfall and then Goldeneye the other day. Craig I really like. I grew up with pierce brosnan though so he'll always be one of my favorites as well.
