[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

Production wise rich n'z is fire but he shoulda gotten harder with the rapping. Same with trouble. Those two beats shouldve been murdered

Gets better each spin :hat

How you expect Kanye to top this?

Ain't happening...

And hip hop is competitive, that's why Cole moved it up so we could compare both albums.

Not sure if serious.... The snippet on Kanye's website sounds better than ANYTHING on J Cole's album so far (unless he has some heat on TY3).

Of course most of Niketalk doesnt like this album, it's an album you have to listen to lyrically and doesn't have any "bangers". Clearly we should all be listening to ASAP Rocky and 2 Chains instead....

The album is good to great, 8-9. The only songs I'm not really vibing with are Forbidden Fruit and Chaining Day. I wish Kendrick would have dropped a verse on the former.

And how could you not

at Villmatic and Mo Money. He spazzed on both tracks.

I agree, Villmatic is one of my faves...

I'm kind a glad KL didn't spit over Forbidden Fruit though, he would've Renegade'd Cole :rolleyes

To play devil's advocate though, the reason that Renegades was one of the best songs on the Blueprint is because Jay knew he couldn't be lax on a track with of the best lyricists ever, same goes for Em. They pushed each other, and they both probably even secretly wanted to one-up the other.

Maybe if Lamar spit a verse or two it would have prompted Cole to go in harder lyrically on the track.

The title track is amazing. Love the everything about it. Also cool how it loops back to the beginning of this album.

I got you
Isn't that the same sample used in suit and tie?

This foo Cole be low key trying to steal timbos style, listen to his drum patterns

I'm still mad he looped up that one dilla beat and put himself down for production credits on FNL

Album is solid, a 7/10. A couple really good songs but don't see myself listening to this years from now.

False... eminem laid his verse before jay z ever thought about owning that track.
Enjoyed Villuminati, Let Nas Down, and Mo Money. For some reason I hate Forbidden Fruit.

Yeah bro, i like ASAP and 2 Chains more than Cole.
That's why I said i was underwhelmed by my FAVORITE RAPPER's album.

Sheesh, what the hell are you talking about?
Don't you realize a lot of us who are in here have been riding with Cole since 2009? Since before you even knew him son.
We know what he's capable of making.
And we didn't say we dont LIKE the album. We just said for Cole standards half of this album is mediocre, and mediocre doesnt cut it with his type of talent and resources.

We know he can do better because weve GOTTEN BETTER from him for years.
He's the one who hyped it up and called it a MASTERPIECE and a CLASSIC before it even leaked.
If you're going to call your music a masterpiece then ALL OF THE MUSIC has to be a masterpiece, not just the 'great raps'.

A masterpiece has great raps, great beats, great hooks, great melodies, great song making, great energy, great everything.

Power Trip is a MASTERPIECE of a single. Probably one of the best 1st singles for a rap album ive seen in recent years, honestly.
It was so well balanced, literally NO FLAWS. Beat was catchy, hook was catchy, Miguel on the chorus was perfect, the bars were actually great, it was cohesive, it had depth, he had flow...perfect single.

There aren't many perfect ALL AROUND songs like that on the album, and thats all we're saying.

If Cole is capable of making a Power Trip in his living room in 90 minutes, which he did, then he is more than capable of putting together a bigger group of similar masterful songs with 2 years of time and space.

Not everyone who is objective and critique someone is hating. We're being honest. We care about every aspect of his songs.
We dont want just "BANGERS"... thats not why we fell in love with Coles music.
We want soulful, catchy, cohesive, story telling cole with a lot of energy.
A part of this album was that, but a big chunk wasn't.

And thats just our opinions.

I have no problems with people who love it, thats cool. Honestly, its dope that some people enjoy it regardless of some of the flaws us fans see.
But whats wrong with those of us who arent BLOWN AWAY from something that we know can be better? It doesnt mean we're hard to please.
We arent. because we loved Friday Night lights, we loved most of the warm up, we liked sideline story for the most part... so we dont just criticize everything he does.

We just have higher expectations from him because we know what hes capable of.

Royce Da 5'9 was originally on Renegade before Jay even knew it existed

I hate when people go to extreme lengths just to get a point across. So because someone doesn't rock with this album, means that they only like music that's hard hitting, and lacks substance?

I don't own an A$AP Rocky or 2 Chainz song on my iPod and I didn't vibe with this album :rolleyes

Gave the album another spin today. Have no real desire to listen to it again. And the more I listen to the record, the more I think I actually overrated his raps. They're good, not great. The entire project is good, not great.

Had such high hopes.

QFT. Exactly what I'm saying. Power Trip was the best song on the album.

Exactly. My dislike for cole's album has nothing to do with an appreciation for the brand of music that chainz and rocky supply. For me personally I don't rock with those guys at all. literally. That's just me though. My dislike for cole's album has more to do with the reasons stated here. Well put dawg.

Listened to the album a few times and decided it's really not my thing. Just like Kendrick he's obviously very talented but the music is not for me.

It's been on repeat since the leak came out.

This album isn't for a summer jam, bump loudly in your car type album.

It's a chill and zone out and let him speak to you type album.

And when I do that you notice subtle things and I'm starting to like it more and more.

I'm a HUGE Cole fan and this is not his best work but I really feel the album especially after a solo smoke session. Climax being Rich N'z and ending it with Let Nas Down...there's no bad song on it and I could appreciate it.

I could tell the effort, time, and thought process went into his album.

Albums are like books, songs being chapters. Listen to the book, man esp. how Nt'ers hate reading 'em

Truth! Forgot about the Royce and Em version. So maybe Em didn't have that in the back of his mind, but it just emphasizes my posts point. Jay HAD to come correct or he would have looked silly.

So let me just state the following...don't let the small post count fool you number one. I've been on these forums since 03 by another name (boricuachulo321 in case you want to hit that little search button on top), so I'm not some new guy talking sh*t. Niketalk is INFAMOUS for liking garbage music.

Secondly, I'm sure that I was one of the few ANTICIPATING the Warm Up because Cole existed before 09. I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one that listened to the Come Up. You make too many assumptions about someone you know nothing about, SON.

Thirdly, I have no clue why you thought my post was directed at you. It was directed to all the posters who were on some "this boring" "trash" "horrible" posters. I don't remember calling you out by name, but you got pretty defensive quickly. It's an internet forum....relax.

Finally, I don't necessarily disagree with your statements but it seems as if you were letting marketing (him calling it a masterpiece) dictate what you expected from an album. Power Trip was clearly lightning in a bottle. And you expecting 12-15 songs of perfection is unrealistic because there have been very few, if any albums, that are flawless. A huge chunk, to use your words were top notch. A handful were average. And a couple were sub-par. But the only reason you're disappointed, in my opinion, is because your expectations were set too high.  You should have seen this coming after Sideline Story. Cole won't make a "classic" commercial album.

Not sure if serious.... The snippet on Kanye's website sounds better than ANYTHING on J Cole's album so far (unless he has some heat on TY3).

OAN, the ppl saying this sucks are lying. It doesn't suck, but it isn't GREAT. & of course it's gonna sound better w/ each listen. Anything will if you pound it in your brain long enough.

Fair enough.
Appreciate the time you put into elaborating your views.

That's the only song that sounds decent from Kanye. Have you heard the "I Am A God" live performance? Sounds terrible and I would bet some money that the snippet on Kanye's website will change into a techno beat just like the "Onsite" live performace below.

P.S....This is coming from a die hard Kanye and Cole fan

Everything on Cole's album sounds better than these two songs
