If I wanted to start producing EDM, or dubstep, where would I start?
Like what equipment/software would I need?
I'm not from the Bay. I'm in Atlanta, if it matters.
typical phase 1 lineup.
About 10 years ago I used to be heavy into the scene and the best thing about it (apart from the girls; house/dance girls are by far the hottest, why?) was that it was chill. People just came to have a good time.Zedd
Ay seriously, kind of tired of all the belligerent ******** that go to these shows. It's one thing to do **** to have a good time, but if you can't handle your **** ... Seriously no ******g respect for others at all. If you come 30 minutes late to a set, you think it's a good ******g idea to bring you and your 15 bros to the front of the stage? My friend and others damn near got trampled. Starting fights and what not. Saw at least 3 fights tonight. Just stay home you idiots.
/rant.
For some it's too mainstream. It's cool by me. There's some decent stuff in there.Any of ya'll mess with BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes? What are your favorites?

I was never really a purist per se. Whatever sounded good was fine by me. There are some who only listen to underground ****. If it sounded good to me, it was cool by me.
essential mix does a very good job of being very comprehensive when it comes to genres/styles of the guest djs.
so i donno why anyone would say the show as a whole is "too mainstream".
just depends on the dj/live act.

Yeah, definitely does not follow a formula. And even the so-called "mainstream" DJs don't play their Vegas-style club shows when they do EM. Hell, just listen to the difference between a mainstream DJ's performance at a European dance music festival compared to an American festival (or American club show). There are noticeable differences.
The term "EDM" has been around a long time. This isn't some new-fangled thing of the last couple years.
