Universal healthcare sounds ideal, but in countries where it is available (Canada) it's not always that great. They have a lot of prescription meds available as OTC over there, something this country will never do.

But I heard if you want a regular doctor appointment for something super simple you might have to wait close to a month.
no reason why we have to mirror Canada's system, though.
there are plenty of examples where it works and it works well (not saying that Canada's system doesn't work well). also, we have to stop acting like the current system that we have is better because its not. there are delays, expensive bills, ppl that fall through the cracks, etc.

Trump has done an awful job and has made the situation much worse, , but let’s not only put blame on him and use him as a scapegoat. There are so many idiots running the states/cities in this country and so many selfish, uneducated, unhygienic, and arrogant people regardless of political affiliation.

Even before the lockdown, I’ve had to yell and argue with friends to stay away from crowds to the point that they treated me like one of those doomsday rednecks. My friend’s girlfriend is a damn nurse working in the same hallway as patients undergoing treatment for the virus, and she went barhopping and partying from 9 PM to 5 AM after getting off a shift. My office refused to close down even as the numbers grew, until the 90% of the engineers (who the company clearly value more than anyone) basically banded together and decided not to show up.

I mean even outside of the people I know, look at all these people throughout Cali who have basically been using this quarantine as a holiday. Having picnics, going to the beach, playing sports while the rest of us are doing our part.

none of these things have anything to do with Trump; I live in a state/region that takes immense pride in defying him and doing the opposite of what he says. My friends all despise Trump, and my office is an extremely liberal space (but Clearly not when it comes to corporate greed) but they’ve still been acting as stupidly as Trump supporters. Too many people in this country are just pure $@@$ human beings and hiding behind “this is all Trump’s fault” instead of taking personal responsibility

Friend's wife has flu-like symptoms and is quarantined at home.

His son is also dealing with a fever and he just got over Pnuemonia and is caring for their infant daughter too.

Offered him help in any way or form.

Got laid off from my 2 jobs in 1 month, plus I have a 1 month old. I feel like I'm back to square 1. I had my future all laid out and now it's all gone with a snap of a finger.

I try not to watch the news on the daily but them numbers don't look good.
Keep doing your best to stay positive and taking care of your family. I'm hoping this gets better for everyone.

you would think universal healthcare and livable wages would be a thing in America after this but we will see.

a few weeks ago everyone in the media was trying to tell americans that socialism was the most horrible thing on the planet and that ppl like Bernie were out of touch, far left dreamers.

now the right, the center and the left are begging for socialist things.

We are currently getting a taste of socialized medical care. The c19 test and treatment are free but they’re withholding tests for the worst cases and sending positive cases home to reserve beds for others who need it more. That IS the definition of socialized medicine and I don’t like it one bit. When you add millions of insured to a system that is already unprepared to handle current numbers, it’s a recipe for disaster. There aren’t enough facilities or medical professionals to handle the potential influx of patients. Socialized medicine also restricts the amount that doctors can charge for their services, so less people will be willing to go into the medical field because they’ll make less money. More patients, less medical professionals... complete failure, IMHO.

So ima be safe if errrybody stays 1 Deadpool away from me?

Seriously tho its times like this im glad im whack.

no girl.
no friends.

And theyre only for UBI because there's an incentive for them. The wealthy are losing money and equity because people are no longer spending money on non-essentials. With UBI, a lot of that money will circulate back to the wealthy.

They finally let my girl work from home... which they should have done weeks ago since she works at a call center, absolutely no reason why it shouldn't have been done sooner but whatever. Load off my chest since our baby is due in May... I might not even get to be in the room when she delivers, but whatever...
A coworker delivered a few days ago and her husband was able to be in the room. Things could change though.

the us wouldnt have gone beyond italy if your gov't prepared properly. instead of your president saying its in control
What are some measures you think the US couldve taken? Start quarantine and shutdowns earlier back in Feb?
