Ok, not sure what yuku is doing...I typed a response but the text isn't showing, when I go to edit the post, I can see the rest of my text...
Anyway, Chief Wesley talked about the Indigenous peoples conference he was part of that encompassed peoples ranging from Native Americans to Australian Aboriginals (& everything in between). It had been designed to help the advancement of native peoples all around the world.
He & Blake were on a speaking tour in support of the movie. It was kind of revolutionary at the time because prior to Dances With Wolves, there really wasn't any movie that portrayed Native Americans in a positive way (although the Pawnee tribe would beg to differ about their portrayal in the movie).
They spoke about the themes touch on in the movie. How savage the settlement of the West here in the US was to Native Americans & how they still haven't recovered to this day. There is very little support for aboriginal people worldwide even to this day. This lecture was around '90, '91, or '92ish...
Chief Wesley talked so gracefully about respect & reverence one should have for your fellow man & the world (paticularly the enviroment). Basically the same things you mentioned previously about people needing to get along because that was going to be the downfall of this world.
Blake was a really cool guy too. He actually was very close to a lot of the LA punk rockers, specifically the band X. We talked a lot about various bands like The Ramones, Fishbone...It was cool.
