Guardians of the Galaxy (Film) - 8/1/14 - Starring Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Benic

If the marvel universe was a high school,

The Avengers would be the cool kids group

The X-men would be the social outcasts

The GotG would be the high school delinquents

Spiderman would probably be the lone kid in the corner wondering why no one is playing with him

[end random post]
I thought Spidey is part of the Avengers.

Obviously he's speaking on the different studios and franchises as they are now. Meh comparison though.

:lol sloooooooooow down on comparing to Star Wars.
GotG >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Star Wars

Movie got me feinding to read the comic books

This particular comic is not for everyone. It was more hit than miss for me but it wasnt batting 100. Some people love it, a lot of people didnt like it at all.

Yea I should've wrote if 'all comic book movie franchises made up a high school'

Yea it's just crazy how isolated spider man is right now.

Right now, Avengers has GotG

X-men has the Fantastic Four maybe

Spiderman has himself 'yay'

Comic book equivalent of watching Wiggins about to rot by himself in Minnesota

161M global debut. 94M in the US. Keep in mind until tomorrow it is just an estimate since Sunday numbers are not it but they are never more than 3M off on the rare occasions that they are wrong.

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/b...ounds-with-160-4-mil-global-debut-1201274534/

In one year Marvel got the highest debut in April and August :smokin

Still hasnt opened in China. That's another guaranteed 80M opening weekend, i bet.

Very well deserved too.

:Nthat

Something that stood out to me from that article.

Variety said:
Having made $6.3 billion at the box office, since taking ownership of the films with 2008’s “Iron Man,” Marvel has become one of the most consistent hit-makers in Hollywood history. Its record of tapping into the zeitgeist is unrivaled by all save Pixar.

They've made a billion a year since 2008. :eek

That's not even counting merchandise and dvd/bluray sales. :{

Nowwwwww, I see why RDJ took the stance that he did. He was like nah, **** that, I want my cut. :lol Ain't mad at all because he was part of making it all possible.

Exactly. Weird analogy considering the Avengers are an amalgamation of Marvels greatest heroes.

The distraction scene was cringeworthy.

This scene was awful. Everything after Ronan's ship crashed on xandar was awful. "You said it yourself *****, we're the guardians of the galaxy" :|

Movie got me feinding to read the comic books

The comics don't make them as cheesy as the movie did. I've never been to fond of them though or most of Marvel's galactic side. Gladiator :rolleyes

So was this marketing or word of mouth? I know both but what was more significant? This comic definitely wasn't well known

^It said in the article that 40% of the advertising budget was spent the week beforehand which is why they were way off. Also a strong Marvel brand. Comparable to Pixar. Not sure if that answers your question

in 2016 when it is 3 movies a year, one pixar movie a year, one Disney Animation movie a year, and one Star Wars movie a year, all other studios will be battling it out for second

Disney executives right now

Wow compared to the other marvel movies what place does that put them?

Couldnt find the WW numbers and dont wanna do the research. Domestically it is 6th. Except for the original Iron Man, all the ones ahead of it are sequels.

Guardians of the Galaxy was pimped to all hell. There was tons of advertising for it, as much as I've seen since I think The Avengers.

And this film will get around because of positive buzz as well. I think word of mouth might be the reason why this gets seen so much. People will say, "Hey, have you seen the new Marvel movie? I don't know what it's about exactly, but it's like The Avengers, and it's really funny."

The marketing for guardians was OD. Disney had ESPN doing specific commercials for it. This movie had no choice but to make money. If this movie had failed to reach a wide audience, we'd only be hearing from Marvels major heroes from now on after ant man and dr. Strange. Hell the solo hulk movie date would've probably leaked immediately :lol

Movie was very good. Definitely had me laughing more than I thought it would. I guess that was the reason for the early trailers focusing on humor. Rocket and Drax were hilarious. It did feel like it was running out of gas towards the end though.

Still have Cap 2 and DOFP ahead of it for the summer.

This movie was incredible.

Those opening sequences are probably the best in comic book movie history so far.
I loved the emotional transition from feeling extreme sorrow of Quill loosing his mother to the journey to a new planet. Quill was walking through Morag, while wearing his mask, amoungst the geyser explosions was (the lights in contrast with the color of the environment) stunning. Then when he got to the cave and started dancing and the title appeared above his head was so awesome. One of best introduction's to any comic book movie ever.

IMO, visually, this movie is the best in comic book movie history.

Disney executives right now

^ :lol
Thats Disney as a whole tho. Not each individual executive. But that'll change once the Avengers numbers come in.

Also Makes me wonder who will pull out of that Cap vs BvS date first

well it's not like commercials on ESPN cost anything other than opportunity cost which aint a real expense

Still. Wonder what the advertising budget was. Lol at thinking Marvel would avoid risk by leaking the IH. IH would be the first to get axed.

Advertising budget was probably higher than their norm I bet. That's the price you have to pay if you want to launch a new franchise. But now that it's established they can ease up on the advertising a bit for a sequel.

Very big props for Disney taking such a huge risk with GoTG considering they had that John Carter flop very recently.

The intro was very clever and immediately gave you the vibe of the movie. The visuals, again were incredible but

ASM2 visually>>>>>

There wasn't as much going on as opposed to guardians but the colors were so beautiful. When Harry first shows up as Green Goblin doing the laugh...the way that scene was shot was just breathtaking.

Again, IMO though. Don't let me go on an ASM2 rant :lol

Hulk is automatic money. Quote me on this, him and Scarlett Witch will have the biggest roles in A2

^Nah. Guardians is the best superhero movie in terms of direction (or whatever you call how the the director cut and paste the scenes together) and visual creativity.

Agreed, especially if you saw it in IMAX 3D. Great use of all the technology.
