I don't like James Gunn idea of humor that much.
The distraction scene was cringeworthy.

I thought Spidey is part of the Avengers.[random post]
If the marvel universe was a high school,
The Avengers would be the cool kids group
The X-men would be the social outcasts
The GotG would be the high school delinquents
Spiderman would probably be the lone kid in the corner wondering why no one is playing with him

Obviously he's speaking on the different studios and franchises as they are now. Meh comparison though.
Variety said:Having made $6.3 billion at the box office, since taking ownership of the films with 2008’s “Iron Man,” Marvel has become one of the most consistent hit-makers in Hollywood history. Its record of tapping into the zeitgeist is unrivaled by all save Pixar.

Wow compared to the other marvel movies what place does that put them?
So was this marketing or word of mouth? I know both but what was more significant? This comic definitely wasn't well known
Disney executives right now
The marketing for guardians was OD. Disney had ESPN doing specific commercials for it. This movie had no choice but to make money. If this movie had failed to reach a wide audience, we'd only be hearing from Marvels major heroes from now on after ant man and dr. Strange. Hell the solo hulk movie date would've probably leaked immediately
IMO, visually, this movie is the best in comic book movie history.
^
Thats Disney as a whole tho. Not each individual executive. But that'll change once the Avengers numbers come in.
Also Makes me wonder who will pull out of that Cap vs BvS date first
well it's not like commercials on ESPN cost anything other than opportunity cost which aint a real expense
Still. Wonder what the advertising budget was. Lol at thinking Marvel would avoid risk by leaking the IH. IH would be the first to get axed.
This movie was incredible.
Those opening sequences are probably the best in comic book movie history so far.
I loved the emotional transition from feeling extreme sorrow of Quill loosing his mother to the journey to a new planet. Quill was walking through Morag, while wearing his mask, amoungst the geyser explosions was (the lights in contrast with the color of the environment) stunning. Then when he got to the cave and started dancing and the title appeared above his head was so awesome. One of best introduction's to any comic book movie ever.
