I saw on rewatch Aegon covered his face right when he noticed what Aemond was doing, and did like an inverted move where the dragon took most of the flame damage. And you can see him still holding on when he’s on the way down

Then at the bottom it looked like Aegon’s face was mostly intact, if severely burnt.
