A stunning P1 lap by Vettel... strong performances by both Brawn and RBR... Ferrari also seemed to have gotten their act together... but McLaren stillcan't seem to get it right

Lewis was on half-throttle going into turn 8 and through the first 2 apexes, while the other front-runners seemed to be goingflat-out. I think he lost something like 5-tenths right there... high-speed corners are screwing them.

it's nice to see RBR is still there puutting up the challenge. if not, its another Jenson/brawn parade.

Both sets of pics are great thanks Sinner.

Starts in an hour and an a half here, pre race blurb etc on One HD...

ARGH, this will be painful to watch... McLaren, Renault and Ferrari have basically given up on this season... Toyota should be able to lockup 3rd in theConstructors... Maybe RBR can fight with Brawn for the Constructors' Title, but Jense has got this...

This is what happens when you have grey-area/up-to-interpretation rules... well done FIA.

EDIT ~ No surprise on the results... tough break for Rubens and Vettel... Looks like Ruben's anti-stall kicked or he bogged his engine, while Vettel blewit on the first lap... change to 3-stops screwed him.

Curt ~ assuming there is a break-out series, what do youexpect/want to see in the new formula? the return of active suspension? movable wings? turbos? V10's or even V12's? I'm assuming all the teams willessentially get to re-write their own rules, opening up more technical freedom...

first off, the kid is a bit of a goober, but at that age, oh well. Driving wise though, he has some skills but I don't think he has a lot of futurepotential from what I've seen.

As far as a breakaway, oh wow. There are so many things I'd love to see. First, the end of the engine freeze. Pick a size and configuration and let teamsgo crazy with it. I don't care if it's turbo or a N/A v8/10/12 but a return to horsepower wars and engine engineering would be great. Ditch KERS orallow it to use more energy per lap so it's actually beneficial. More aero freedom. Hell, bring back ground effects for all I care. Really I would like tosee the teams be able to really bring engineering advancement back to the sport so we see innovative things like Lotus used to always do. There are so manypossibilities and they're all exciting to me.

I HIGHLY doubt we'd see v12's as they're pretty unnecessary. I would see it most likely staying as v8 (perhaps increased displacement) or MAYBEv10. But even a v10 isn't necessare if you eliminate the freeze and allow engine development like it should be.

Yeah, they're doing quite well right now with the V8's... still pumping out 750 which is very sufficient.

I'm more excited about the potential aero and overall design developments... give the designers more freedom and let them run with it! KERS will definitelybe gone next year so that won't be an issue. Of course all this talk can go down the drain of they work it out with the FIA or if they do break-away butdon't make big changes to the rules...

I missed out on the turbo era and those days when you had V8s, 10s, 12s competing against one another...didn't have cable so I missed out on everything, Iguess.

It just sucks that it has to take a breakaway series to get things back to the way they were, where engineers and teams had free reign to do whatever. StupidMad Max...

word!!!

let the teams do what they do best which is making great cars and let the drivers just do racing...stop all that politics bs crap...

No F1 this weekend... meanwhile the teams are still working with the FIA on the 2010 season...

But "The Mother of All Races" aka 24 Hrs at Le Mans is this weekend... Anyone give a S#!7 damn? I'm gonna to try tocatch as much of it as I can... Aside from the usual ex-F1 and touring car drivers participating, Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy) is also one of thedrivers... didn't know he was into this sorta thing...

I've just heard on CNN that all 10 teams are set for next season... plus 3 new teams.
Three new names - and conditions - on 2010 entry list
The FIA published the entry list for the 2010 championship on Friday, with three new names - Campos Grand Prix, Team US F1 and Manor Grand Prix - joining the existing 10 Formula One teams.

However, the inclusion of McLaren, BMW Sauber, Renault, Toyota and Brawn is subject to those teams lifting the conditions they placed on their entries, with discussions on the matter to be concluded by next Friday, June 19. The FIA will continue to assess other possible new entries in the meantime.

The three new teams are all expected to run under the FIA's voluntary budget cap and all have three-year engine contracts in place with Cosworth, who will return to Formula One racing for the first time since 2006. Of the existing teams, Toro Rosso and Brawn do not have an engine supplier confirmed on the FIA's entry list.

Team US F1 is led by Formula One veterans Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson, whose US-based concern hopes to prove 'that American technology, American drivers and the American competitive spirit can compete and win on the F1 global stage'. British-born Windsor is a former Williams team manager, while American engineer Anderson is an ex-F1 technical director. They are based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Campos Grand Prix is headed by former Formula One driver Adrian Campos, whose Spanish Campos Racing team currently compete in Formula Three, having previously enjoyed success in GP2, winning the 2008 team championship. Campos Grand Prix will have headquarters in Madrid, plus a technical centre at Campos Racing's current base in Valencia. Its car will be built by renowned Italian chassis builders Dallara.

The surprise name on the FIA's list is Manor Grand Prix. British team Manor Motorsport was founded in 1990 by former single-seater champion John Booth and over the years has fielded drivers such as Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton in the likes of Formula Renault and Formula Three.

Manor Motorsport currently race in the Formula Three Euroseries and their F1 entry sees Booth link up with former Simtek F1 team owner Nick Wirth, whose company Wirth Research Limited will build the new team's cars.

The FIA statement in full:

Wow, Peugeot with the win and second place finishes, congrats to Audi for a 3rd place finish after being defending champions... maybe that R15 isn't asinvincible as people made it out to be.

^ This was the first time I really watched a majority of the Le Man race, since we got it live (all 24 hours of it)... but I could only manage around 12-15hours of it (on and off).

Yeah, it could have been an all-Peugeot podium had it not been a pit-mistake by them... Well, Audi's dominance had to come to an end at one point... I wasrouting for the Gulf Aston Martin to reach the podium... too bad.

The politics and power-struggle is really making a joke out of "F1"... and with the way things are going, we might even see teams like USF1 racingagainst teams like McLaren, Ferrari, Renault. If they do break-away, it could be...

Hmmm... this could get awkward...

Bonus:
Kudos to anyone who can guess what this is... minus Curt of course.

^ Not necessarily... I have no doubt that Silverstone will be a part of this new championship series... The FIA can have Donington for all I care...

This is huge... but there still a lot of stuff that needs to be sorted out... aside from the technical rules, there's the issue of venues (who getsMonaco!?), sponsorships, TV rights and other various commerical rights. Who's gonna make the rules and govern them? As excited as I am about the prospectof getting away from the greed of Bernie and the dictatorship of Max, there are still a lot of legitimate concerns on forming a new series.
FOTA announces breakaway series
Eight current teams have released a statement revealing that they are to leave Formula 1 at the end of this season. Members of the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) sent out the message following a meeting on Thursday, stating that all current teams apart from Williams and Force India will leave F1 at the end of 2009

With FOTA having been involved in a dispute with F1 governing body the FIA since the latter announced a €45m budget cap for next season, FIA president Max Mosley released one final proposal on Wednesday which described how, although a budget cap would remain, he was fully prepared to reach a compromise with FOTA. On top of this, the FIA also released letters this week stating that a number of current FOTA representatives, before the group was formed, agreed to the idea of a budget cap in January of 2008.

With this in mind and the FIA keen to receive all entries to next year's World Championship - and without containing any additional conditions on FOTA applications - Mosley insisted that all full, unconditional entries should be organised by this Friday in order to give new teams a reasonable chance for 2010 preperation. He also described how FOTA teams can, by modifying the Concorde Agreement of 1998, be able to enter the championship before then being able to write a new draft ahead of next year, meaning rule changes can take place in the process.

Believing that the upmost effort has been applied in order to seek an answer to the disagreement and following FOTA's own meeting at Renault's Enstone base - a stone's throw from Silverstone - on Thursday evening, the group released the following statement:

'Since the formation of FOTA last September the teams have worked together and sought to engage the FIA and commercial rights holder (Formula One Management, lead by Bernie Ecclestone), to develop and improve the sport. Unprecedented worldwide financial turmoil has inevitably placed great challenges before the F1 community. FOTA is proud that it has achieved the most substantial measures to reduce costs in the history of our sport. In particular the manufacturer teams have provided assistance to the independent teams, a number of which would probably not be in the sport today without the FOTA initiatives.

The FOTA teams have further agreed upon a substantial voluntary cost reduction that provides a sustainable model for the future. Following these efforts all the teams have confirmed to the FIA and the commercial rights holder that they are willing to commit until the end of 2012. The FIA and the commercial rights holder have campaigned to divide FOTA.

The wishes of the majority of the teams are ignored. Furthermore, tens of millions of dollars have been withheld from many teams by the commercial rights holder, going back as far as 2006. Despite this and the uncompromising environment, FOTA has genuinely sought compromise. It has become clear however, that the teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship.

These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners. This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders. The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series.
