FAN~TASTIC...

A great drive by Lewis, but the best part was his winning margin and the fact that they had more if it was needed...

Intersting how poor the Red Bulls and Brawns were this weekend... such a huge contrast for Jense, especially considering how strong they've been...

at Nicole... she was all happy and jumpy at the start, but looked like she was about to breakdown at the end...

Tough break for Fernando...

More positive new... http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090728172608.shtml

Ferrari on Tuesday reported more good news regarding Felipe Massa's rate of recovery. The Brazilian remains at Budapest's AEK hospital, where he was taken for emergency surgery following head wounds inflicted by a flying damper spring during last Saturday's Hungarian GP qualifying session.

"His condition is improving quickly and constantly. He is more and more awake and reactive," declared Massa's personal doctor Dino Altman.

"He spoke to several people today, using three different languages, replying always in a coherent way," he elaborated. "He's also progressing with his physiotherapy very well. He opened his left eye and confirmed that he can see with it.

"As far as the near future is concerned we have to be cautious, but I have to say that also today there are very positive signs," Altman added.

Ferrari Team Principal Stefano Domenicali returned to Budapest again, and emerged from his visit feeling relieved.

"It's good to have comforting news," the Italian said.

"I spoke to Felipe and it was very emotional for me: he recognised me and I brought him a message from everybody at Ferrari and from the fans all over the world. I told him that his red car will wait for him until he's ready to race again.

"Now we've got to take it step by step and remain cautious, but it's really incredible to see all of this progress only three days after the accident," Domenicali reported.

Another sign of improvement for Massa is the fact that several friends have been allowed to see him.

^ man thats good to hear. I saw on tv someone was talking about how the surgery to the eye could potentially be career ending and had me shaking my head at thetragedy. hope dude can recover and be back whenever he feels ready and happy with his situation. hate to see anyone get injured regardless of if you cheer forthem or not

I'm absolutely shocked...
eek.gif
Didn't think it would really happen...No disrespect to the champion, but with the changes the cars have gone through over the past 2 years, the testing ban and him being out of the cockpit for 2years, I'm quite surprised that he's actually doing it. Lewis vs. Schumi, Vettel vs. Schumi will be intriguing.

Schumacher Returns!

As if to underline that nothing is ever predictable in Formula One, Ferrari announced Wednesday evening that Michael Schumacher is to stand in for the injured Felipe Massa at the forthcoming Grand Prix in Valencia and beyond.

With Massa out of action due to the injuries sustained in qualification for the Hungarian Grand Prix and making a strong recovery, the rumour mill had been rife with speculation as to who would take over the F60 cockpit alongside Kimi Raikkonen as the Brazilian recuperates.

Indeed, no less than 13 drivers had been linked with the drive amongst reports that the 40-year old seven-time champion was not interested in resurrecting his career with the Italian champions.

"We have said before that it is possible that Michael Schumacher could return to help us out," head of communications Luca Colajanni said ahead of the official announcement.

Schumacher last competed in the sport in 2006 where he finished second to Fernando Alonso in the standings, having secured no less than seven victories to add to his tally of 91 wins.

"Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro intends to put Michael Schumacher in Felipe Massa's car until the Brazilian driver will be able to race again," the team stated.

"Michael Schumacher said he is ready and over the next few days will undertake a specific training programme at the end of which confirmation will be given of his participation in the championship with effect from the European Grand Prix on the 23rd of August."

A controversial figure despite his massive success in Formula One, Schumacher will be the centre of attention later this month as the series regroups following the summer break.

Wow!

I remember posting in this thread a while ago about how I thought Schumacher still looked to be in remarkable shape and how he could probably still drive acar...never knew how prophetic my thoughts turned out to be

^ too expensive with no results...

Briannn ~ Yeah, but there's 'fit' and then there's 'F1 fit'... Schumi's still in good shape, but not F1 shape yet... plus, with hisprevious neck injury (from racing motor bikes) who knows if his neck will hold-up in an F1 race...

^ I don't remember when he last tested, but I guess that sounds about right...

This is a good move for Ferrari I suppose. They know this season is over and with the testing ban, who better than Schumi to help the team develop their 2010car... who knows, he might even win a race or two. I wonder how Kimi's dealing with it... he doesn't care much for Schumi, to say the least.
laugh.gif

Lol... all the Schumi fan-boys/Lewis haters will be back in full-force... and its a lose-lose situation for Lewis... if he beats Schu, they'll say "sowhat? Of course he should be a 40-year old man that has been in retirement"... if Schu beats him they'll say "loser... a 40-year old man beatyou"...

And, if push came to shove, which man was currently the world's greatest sportsman?

Tiger Woods opted for Schumacher ... "I have to say Michael for his consistency over the years and I think this may be his last year, he may do one more, I don't know but what he's done year-in and year-out and it is the most globally-watched sport."

Don't call it a come back...
11/08/09

Michael cancels F1-Comeback

Consequences of bike-injuries make return impossible
"Yesterday evening, I had to inform Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and Team Principal Stefano Domenicali that unfortunately I'm not able to step in for Felipe. I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible, however, much to my regret it didn't work out. Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello, even if medically or therapeutically we tried everything possible.

The consequences of the injuries caused by the bike-accident in February, fractures in the area of head and neck, unfortunately have turned out to be still too severe. That is why my neck cannot stand the extreme stresses caused by Formula 1 yet. This are the clear results of the examinations we did on the course of the past two weeks and the final examination yesterday afternoon. As there were no improvements after the day in Mugello, I decided at short notice on Sunday to do that thorough examination already yesterday.

I am disappointed to the core. I am awfully sorry for the guys of Ferrari and for all the fans which crossed fingers for me. I can only repeat that I tried everything that was within my power. All I can do now is to keep my fingers crossed for the whole team for the coming races."

As much as I despise Schumi, I was quite looking forward to his comeback... instead we get Luca Badoer...

was looking forward to seeing schumi back in that red suit once again. thats really really too bad. ive been looking forward to it everyday since he said hewould make a comeback. that neck injury mustve been way more severe than i guessed. ah well, i guess in hindsight its better he stays retired with his currentlegacy than coming back to fade out.

Fisichella gets dream drive with Ferrari

Giancarlo Fisichella will achieve his lifelongambition and race for Ferrari after Force India on Thursday allowed the Italian to join the Formula Oneworld champions for the rest of the season.

The Silverstone-based team said in a statement that Fisichella, who finished second for Force India in Belgium on Sunday, was free to join Ferrari withimmediate effect after "extensive discussions" over the last 24 hours.

Ferrari confirmed the move in a separate announcement, saying they expected Fisichella to make a valuable contribution for the rest of the season.

"Giancarlo and his management team approached me yesterday with the proposal from Ferrari," said Force India team principal Vijay Mallya.

"For any Italian driver, a Ferrari race seat is a long-held dream and for Giancarlo it was no exception. No one should stand in the way of this.

"Furthermore the agreement will secure Giancarlo's long-term future with Ferrari and it would be incorrect to jeopardise this, particularly whenGiancarlo has made such a vital contribution to Force India."

Fisichella, 36, replaces struggling compatriot Luca Badoer at Ferrari. Force India, whose official reserve is Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi, said a decision on a replacement would bemade in the next few days.

BADOER OUT

Badoer has struggled in two races as a stand-in for Brazilian Felipe Massa, who suffered serious head injuries at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July and has been ruled out for the final five rounds ofthe season.

The test driver, making a comeback after almost a decade away from grand prix racing, qualified last in Valencia and Belgium and was also last to take thechequered flag in both races.

Mallya's comments suggested that Fisichella, who has won three races with Jordan and Renault, was also likely toreplace Badoer as official test and reserve driver next year.

The Indian aviation and liquor tycoon, whose team used Ferrari engines last year before switching to Mercedes units, said there had been no financialsettlement agreed with Ferrari.

"This agreement has been made in good faith and for the good of Giancarlo and the sport in general," he said.

"A competitive Italian driver in a Ferrari for Monza is a positive story for Formula One, which can only help raise the sport's profile in thesedifficult times."

The last Italian driver to win at Monza was Ludovico Scarfiotti with Ferrari in 1966.

"Giancarlo has shown, throughout his long career, that he is fast and competitive and we are therefore proud to be able to run an Italian driver in ourhome race," said Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali.

Fisichella, whose second place at Spa secured Force India's first points in Formula One, thanked Mallya.

"It is true that it has always been an ambition to do this, and for Vijay to have allowed it to become a reality is very generous," he said.

"I hope in my turn I have helped Force India grow up and be on the right path to achieve their own ambitions. They are now a very competitive team andI wish them all the very best."

force india was ridiculously fast all weekend leading up to the race at spa. if ferrari didn't have kers force india might've given them a much closerfight. it was a good race to watch though. props to force india for the amount of development they've done in merely their first season. Luca was so awful
Briatore leaves Renault; team won't dispute charge
Renault managing director Flavio Briatore and executive director of engineering Pat Simonds have left the Formula Oneteam.

Renault have also decided not to dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, the teamhave announced.

A statement from the team read: "The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

"It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, haveleft the team.

"Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 21 September 2009, the team will not make anyfurther comment."

Despite this latest twist in the 'crashgate' scandal, the extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council scheduled forMonday at the FIA's headquarters in Paris will still go ahead.

Although Briatore and Symonds have fallen on their sword, and their actions will be taken into account, the WMSC may still imposesevere sanctions on the team now they have chosen not to launch a defence.

The FIA charged Renault with "conspiring with its driver, Nelson Piquet Jnr, to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 SingaporeGrand Prix with the aim of causing the deployment of the safety car to the advantage of its other driver, Fernando Alonso''.

Alonso went on to take the chequered flag at Formula One's first night race, his first victory for two years, and at a time whenRenault were considering quitting the sport.

The French manufacturer will almost certainly plead for clemency from the FIA as they will claim the actions of two men should notaffect the employment of nearly 700 other staff within the team.

The FIA have the power to exclude Renault from the Championship, although it is anticipated such a strict penalty will not beadministered.

The welter of evidence against Briatore and Symonds was damning in the wake of Piquet Jnr providing the FIA's investigation teamwith two statements detailing what transpired in Singapore.

The 24-year-old claimed that, in a meeting with Briatore and Symonds a few hours before the race, he was told to crash his car, and,in a further discussion with the latter, at what point on the circuit.

Piquet Jnr, fearing for his future with the team, followed through with the order on lap 14, and at turn 17 of the Singapore track, apoint where no crane was on hand, so forcing the intervention of the safety car.

As Alonso had pitted two laps earlier, the safety car period played into the double world champion's hands, allowing him to claimthe victory.

Although suspicions were roused at the time, the matter did not start to surface until just over a fortnight ago at the Belgian GrandPrix.

The claim is Nelson Piquet Snr, in the wake of his son being axed by Renault after the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July, informed the FIA of what unfolded.

The FIA's investigations led them to offer Piquet Jnr immunity against prosecution in return for his testimony.

Telemetry data was especially significant as it showed Piquet Jnr accelerating into the crash, rather than braking as a driver wouldordinarily do.

It is understood the FIA also offered Symonds immunity; however, it is now clear he declined, opting instead to follow Briatore out ofthe exit door.

Briatore's departure brings to an end the career of one of the sport's most colourful characters.

The flamboyant 58-year-old Italian started out at Benetton in 1988, overseeing Michael Schumacher's world title triumphs in 1994and 1995, again in the role of managing director.

In 2005 and 2006, as team principal at Renault, Briatore helped the French manufacturer and Alonso become World Champions.

Renault handed suspended F1 ban
Nelson Piquet arrives at Monday's hearing in Paris
Nelson Piquet arrives at the hearing in Paris on Monday

Renault have been given a two-year suspended ban for their role in fixing last year's Singapore Grand Prix.

The team were called before governing body the FIA to answer charges they had asked driver Nelson Piquet Jr to crash to help team-mate Fernando Alonso win.

Former team boss Flavio Briatore has been banned from FIA sanctioned events for an unlimited period.

Renault's ex-engineering director Pat Symonds has also been excluded from F1 for five years.

The plan to deliberately crash was their idea, Piquet told the FIA.

Briatore and Symonds parted company with Renault last week at the same time as the French car giant said they would not contest the charges.

At a hearing in Paris on Monday, the ruling World Motor Sport Council hearing found Renault "in breach of the International Sporting Code and SportingRegulations."

A statement by the FIA added: "The council considers Renault F1's breaches relating to the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to be of unparalleled severity.

"They not only compromised the integrity of the sport but also endangered the lives of spectators, officials, other competitors and Nelson Piquet Jr.himself.

"The WMSC considers that offences of this severity merit permanent disqualification from the FIA Formula One World Championship.

"However, in particular the steps taken by Renault F1 to identify and address the failings within its team and condemn the actions of the individualsinvolved, the WMSC has decided to suspend Renault F1's disqualification until the end of the 2011 season."

Not quite... its a suspended ban, which means that they can still compete... and as long as they don't screw-up over the next two seasons, they should beok. The ban will only be activated if they commit a comparible offense from now till 2011. Interesting that there wasn't a fine.

Flavio, however, is truely gone.
