Thats very weird
It's crazy because no matter where you go water will always taste different. I do the tap water test most places I travel & in my experience NJ & TX have the worst tasting water in the US. It almost taste like salt water 🤢. Boston had really good tasting water as did Toronto. It's crazy how one liquid that is the most abundant element on 🌎 can taste so vastly different given the region it's in. I think it's the presence of bacteria & level of salinity in NYC tap water that makes it so legendary. Water, to some degree, shapes the taste of any food it's cooked into. Our water contains good quantities of calcium and dissolved minerals, which causes a process called “the calcium-ion effect” to kick in and strengthen the wheat protein that's used in bagels & pizza.

It also has to do with minerals within the water.

Cause Cali pizza and bagels is weaksauce compared to da Big Apple. Ya’ll barely got Mexican food over us.

zmaqbool zmaqbool back me up fam
💯. I know plenty of California's that openly admit if there's one thing Cali is lacking it's good pizza & bagels. There's some decent spots I'm sure because pizza has become so mainstream in the past 10 years that you can find decent pizza just about anywhere but in the bigger picture it's just not abundant to find in Cali.

Now, about the Mexican food, lol, it's probably very hard to beat Cali in that dept. I mean, they share a border with Mexico so by default I'd think the Mexican food in Cali is far superior to what we have here in NYC. I've had halal Mexican here but never been to Cali so can't compare & something tells me that would be a pointless comparison anyway.

im gonna need to see a blind taste test done on ny tap water pizza
i've seen the italians say the secret to good pizza is the tomatoes which makes way more sense

I know multiple Californian’s who have lived in NY for a time and the thing all of them complained about most was the lack of good Mexican food. Their words, not mine.

New Yorkers need to understand that Mexican spots in LA are like pizza shops in NY. There are certain neighborhoods in LA
where you can get bomb Mexican every few blocks.
they have chipotle in ny though

They both from NY

🤕
Yeah, but Alq moved to some other state. He used to bemoan about it. The other dude talking about newly developed neighborhoods etc. Where are they building new neighborhoods in NYC? The place is so packed they are contemplating shutting down Rikers and turning it into future development.

I have not been to much of the west but az had terrible mexican food in comparison to where i am from (chicago) and cali was really extreme with theirs too. (It was either amazing or bad no in between)

Is Cali pizza or NY Mexican better?

NYC has some good Mexican but you definitely have to seek it out

Idk... after recently getting into pizza making I have a new found respect for places cranking out perfect pies all day

But yeah, a lot tougher sourcing the ingredients for Mexican food than it is for pizza
NYC has terrific Mexican food, but if you don't know where to look and just pull up to any Mexican spot(that may be owned by transplants or people trying to make a quick buck) then don't be surprised if its mid. Cats going to Yummy Taco and surprised the food is mid. NYC is probably the most diverse city in the world, so they have stores, markets, and grocers catering to numerous cultures. People just don't know where to go to get good Mexican food and that's fine, but the claim that there is none in NYC is laughable.

Damn I would think AZ has some top tier Mexican food with it being right above Mexico. When you say really extreme- do you mean too over the top & nothing plain in terms of presentation & options for foods? I've always heard good things about Mexican food from TX all the way up to Cali.

I think y’all need to realize that this discussion is on the overall average for each state.

On average, you’re going to find amazing Mexican food a LOT more consistently through CA then you are most other states. This includes NY. I feel like this is a known fact.

I’ve heard TX has good Mexican food as well, but if I hear another NYer say y’all competing with CA’s Mexican food tier because you know some spot that’s down 2 boroughs and 4 alleyways and this dude named Big Joe told you one time it was good when he went on a Sunday between 2-4PM - we gon button this right up.
