Elon Musk trying to buy Twitter (edit: deal has been finalized)

I pay for nt because it goes to a good cause and the ads are too much, I pay for Apple Music because I use it all day and is dat piff even around?

I don't pay to stream any tv because I steal that off my sister in law.

I don't see what a blue check is offering for a service worth the money.

Exactly. We need to see what value they add to justify the monthly fee. If they're going to begin charging you for the things you've been using for free for the last decade, I don't think that's strategy will work lol.

Not on twitter like that so I don't care but I can see them doing colored check marks to identify/categorize people. Like blue for entertainers, purple for politicians, green for academics etc

Most people pay for subscriptions because they're lazy or lack knowledge.

Reddit premium exists. Twitter has had a subscription service for almost a year now.

This new one already has a locked in subscriber base. This stuff is aimed at creators/businesses or people who make money via social media/with social media.

If you aren't verified now you won't be when this rolls out. They aren't gonna had out blue checks to everyone who gives them $20

Omg people with Bird Avis are saying the N word how will we ever combat this level of racism I am literally shaking right now!

😂😂😂

So verification is going to go from something special that only a handful of people had to something that literally anybody can pay for?

Also, what value is Twitter providing to justify the $20 per month price tag? That's more than any streaming service costs

No, to my understanding they are saying the people who have blue checks will now have to pay $20 a month to keep it.

Read the article.

But isn't the whole point of verification to authenticate accounts so the other 99% of Twitter users know that they are communicating with the right person?

So if I don't pay Twitter, my account is no longer authenticated? It's gone from an authentication tool to simply a platform to extract money for users.

Im not even mad. Who the hell cares about a blue check?? EDIT: Im sure Grace had a post about removing the filters before this, right?

The funny thing about this to me is Elon stating he didn't but Twitter for the money, he bought it to help humanity. Which is self aggrandizing ********

Now he has control, every move screams of "I need to make money from this"

As some one who very infrequently uses twitter...i am interested to see how Musk plays this take over with the underlying comments about "bringing back free speech"

The writing seems to be on the wall that twitter will become a cesspool and people will flee and if people flee, advertisers will too and twitter will just turn into 4chan...or myspace. So I wonder if musk is trying to make some money now with this subscription service before people leave? Or if he has plans to moderate/censor twitter?

The whole twitter "turning" into a "cesspool" talk is pretty funny.

There's 8+ min pr0n videos on there right now.

Like 2009 era twitter where people are still getting tweets dug up from didn't happen. People were getting banned back when some were tweeting via text.

No one was crying free speech/persecution/cancelation...the game was just the game.

Social media in 2009 had very little geopolitical impact.

Today, it's different: these platforms have been and continue to be used to influence the choices and actions of the masses (from fundraising events to votes to acts of war), and their changing nature and impact have naturally resulted in an increased demand in scrutiny. All modern means of mass communication (newspapers, radio, and TV) have gone through the same.

2009 era was 6+ years.

Impact was there but it was ignored in part because no names/faces were attached to it.

Wonder if Jack is gonna forreal go head to head wit Elon or if they planned to work together. Blue bird, bluesky. Could be a coincidence...
