Dressing Better Vol 2.0

Lyonbc can you post a pic of you wearing one of your shirts please? I'm trying to determine if I should go that route for my wedding.

I'm bumming around my apartment today so I just threw it on with shorts haha....but here's some pics from my phone:

For reference I'm like 6-1.5 and 190 and I bought the ESF versions (16.5, 35 sleeve, semi spread collar). I'll say this, the sleeve length and neck are on point, the collar lay (dunno the right term but the spread of the collar is perfect for what I like). I'll say this, the shirt length is great, and in the pic where I lifter my arms untucked it looks and feels relatively close. The sleeve is a little loose but MUCH better than any OTR slim shirts I've bought at dept stores for the same price or higher.

The tucked in pic is a little misleading because I'm wearing shorts ( its not as bad as it looks) but it definitely does have room to come in on the sides for sure. The back picture is the most telling about how the sides can go in a bit more. If I'm wearing these shirts w/o a blazer or suit jacket then maybe they're a little looser than I'd like, but with a suit jacket or blazer these are fine imo, like for your wedding it should work. The fabric feels really nice, and like others were saying I wouldn't pay, nor is it worth the "retail" price they charge you..but with this sale, getting 3 shirts for ~98$ (shipping incl.) is no more than I've paid for shirts in the past that are a lot more thin, and don't feel nearly as good or have a solid collar like these do so I'm happy with it. It's not as close or slim fitting as my cheaper Macys shirts I had taken in on the sides and arms, but I basically paid the same price for these shirts and the cleaners back home will take in sides for like 10$ which isn't bad, and the CT shirt is much more substantial if that makes sense.

Cliffs: It's not AS slim as I'd hoped for getting an ESF but the shirt feels good and has a nice drape....probably gonna get them taken in once I get back home but at the end of the day I paid the same I would have paid for other OTR shirts I've gotten from BR, Macys with this sale, so I'm getting a better quality shirt for the same price essentially.

Wow, that's a looser than I had hoped but I'll just have to see what happens when I try mine when they get in :\ Either way, I expect them to be worn with a jacket always so I'm not too worried. I know I could always get them taken in at the tailor.

Anyways, NY DB fam, what's good? I got an interview in the city on Wednesday at 11, then no plans after that. Meet ups 8o

Interview is in the city but I'd be working at an office in NJ about 40 min away from home. For this pay, job would barely cover transit if in the city :\

The guy asked whether cotton or wool is more preferable. He said nothing about wearing it year round, so I don't know where you're pulling that out from. He specifically said that he wanted to wear the suit for formal occasions as well. Do you really think that a cotton suit is appropriate for formal occasions?

You told him to buy a cotton suit instead of a wool suit because he could wear it year round. You recommended the cotton suit over the wool suit.

Why do we have to take any criticism to PMs? I think this thread can handle some criticism and could very much benefit from it.

I was trying to keep it civil and handle a thread derailment over PM, clearly that's too much for some people here. It is what it is.

:lol

1. Things never got uncivil.
2. Everything was strictly about your clothing recommendations.
3. This thread was nowhere close to being derailed.

Go ahead and try to prove otherwise.

He asks for pants better than BR quality...then you recommend him Gap? The brand that's intentionally made to be not as good as BR? Then you move even further down to H&M and finally end up at JC Penney's?

??? :lol

try club monaco. they have free shipping with no limit right now. they have some cheap pants on sale.

or Brooks brothers Milano Fit (their slimmest I believe)

Eh I don't think there was a reason to be rude about it but okay. I recommended him brands that I wear not brands that are "as good" as BR, considering he mentioned pricing. This is why I said that if you rotate them then I would even go with Gap, H&M, etc.

He explicitly asked for brands with better quality than Banana Republic with a $100 limit. Yet, you recommended brands with worse quality.

Your recommendations make no sense considering what he asked for. I questioned them.

What was rude about my post?

What's everyone's opinion on knit ties? More specifically, knit ties with suits (and not the usual blazer/denim combo we tend to see them paired with)?

I think they look fine, I have a few, they def add a little texture. It can really dress down a suit, but it can also be worn when you're not trying to be casual. Ive seen a nice grey suit, white shirt, black knit tie combo with black wingtips... 8)

I'm all for it. Not sure if this is knit or woven, but it looks good. Nii posted these on his tumblr

My 2 cents, I think knit ties are great especially in the Spring and Summer they add that nice little touch of texture while still bring the outfit down a notch in terms of "seriousness" and in a good way. One of the females at work, when I wore my navy knit a few weeks ago said to me regarding the knit tie "I love the knit tie, it's playful, Springy and professional." Plus not for nothing they are a lot easier to tie for me at least.
