Denver Nuggets (10-4) 2023-24 Season Thread: 11/22 @ Magic

Done deal: Mavs agree to send Rudy F and Brewer to Denver for future second-rounder, according to sources with knowledge of trade

Denver gets two quality wing players at low cost by taking Rudy F & Brewer into sizable trade exception.

Interesting deal. I'm not a fan of either player, but can't complain about the cost.

Free-agent center Nene and the Denver Nuggets have agreed to terms on a five-year deal worth in excess of $67 million, according to sources close to the talks.

Widely regarded as the No. 1 free agent on the 2011 market, Nene was pursued vehemently by teams such as New Jersey, Houston and Indiana.

But all of his suitors knew that his preference was to stay with the Nuggets, with whom he's played his whole career.

The deal, sources say, will pay Nene an average of $13.5 million over the next five seasons, which is one season longer than any other team could offer.

Earlier Tuesday, Denver acquired swingmen Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer from the Dallas Mavericks for a future second-round pick to add much-needed depth in the wake of the departures of three free agents to China during the lockout: Wilson Chandler, J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin.

The Nuggets still want to sign Chandler when he returns to the United States, most likely in March, but fending off the competition to keep Nene was always Denver's No. 1 offseason priority.

"He's a Nugget," Denver's executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said during his first visit with reporters following the end of the lockout.

Nene's wife is from Denver and his close ties to the organization were only cemented by the way that the Nuggets nursed him through a serious knee injury in the first game of the 2005-06 season and a subsequent fight against testicular cancer in January 2008.

The deal struck by Nene and agent Dan Fegan would certainly validate their decision to opt out of his originally scheduled $11 million salary for next season and to turn down a four-year, $50 million extension offer from the Nuggets last summer.

Should've let Nene walk.

As a Rockets fan, the Nene signing makes me sad. The amount of money he got though makes me wipe sweat from my forehead and move on

Ty Lawson
Arron Afflalo (Pending he re-signs)
Danilo Gallinari
Nenê
Timofey Mozgov

Karl stated this in an interview last week. Nenê will be moved to his natural position.

George is historically reluctant to give young players any meaningful minutes, let alone start them. Lawson, as talented as he is, lucked out with being a fellow UNC alum.

Wasn't going to happen; like I'd been saying since June, dude was 'bout that dough.

Although I wanted a somewhat fresh start with this squad I'm not too mad...his numbers should go up playing PF
Afflalo is looking at what 8 million per year?

Depth is gonna be the key I'm just hoping Gallo steps it up as the closer and Lawson/Miller feed Nene.

now that you guys have rudy fernandez can we have afflalo? we will give you steve blake back

Exec, I wish I had your optimism my dude but Nene has shown me nothing to believe he will improve or that he can be the featured guy in the offense. Nene is a nice complimentary piece but you can't pay him that kind of money when u get at most 5 more wins with him than without. He doesn't even average double figures in rebounds which is sad for a guy with his athleticism and size.

You're right aside from him playing out of position his personality doesn't allow him to maximize his potential. That's why it's up to GK,Lawson and Miller to FORCE feed him the ball. 12-15 shots per game minimum.  No excuses anymore. If he doesn't do his thing this season then I'll officially give up on him.

Free agent Earl Clark is meeting with Nuggets officials in Denver today, league source tells Y!

I echo that thought. Is it really worth paying a guy ~$13 million/year who's going to take a team from possibly a 9th-10th seed without him to, at most, an 8th seed with him?

I was on Denver Stiffs, and the majority of Nuggets fans there seem ecstatic about the signing--I don't understand why. It's not like this guy is going to all of a sudden become a monster, he's just going to put up his usual 14 & 8, if he can stay healthy.

The sad part is that the same people that are excited on Denver Stiffs are the same ones calling into Denver sports radio calling Nene "soft" "bum" "underachieving."  I hope I'm wrong but Nene is not a game changer.

at J.R. Smith I was waiting for the lockout to end SPECIFICALLY to see dude light it up

Hopefully most teams will have all their cap space used up by March so no one can make a real run at Chandler.
With the the power in the West shifting around I see/expect better than an 8th seed. Not that it really matters since it about match ups. 5-8 is gonna come down to the final week as it always does.

I'm satisfied with where things are.

Rudy Fernandez has already headed for Denver . There awaits the Nuggets, his new team in the NBA, and before departing from Barajas airport has made it clear that face this new stage with great enthusiasm.

"I'm happy for the change. George Karl called me at five o'clock . We were talking on the phone for a while and I think I will adapt perfectly to the style and playing Denver. I think I'll fit. He said he had specifically requested my signing because it fits its game system and dynamics, "said the Spaniard forward.

The NBA has surprised you the transfer from Dallas, but feels valued and believed to be a very important role in the Nuggets' Karl I am well aware of his past as a coach in Europe and its philosophy of play is very European. I have promised that as soon I will be the sixth man and play the minutes from JR Smith, who is in China. "

True.  I think the Spurs, Lakers, Mavericks, Thunder & Grizzlies will take the top 5 spots. LAC is a wildcard right now, I know there's a ton of hype around them after the CP3 trade, but I'm undecided as to whether or not I think they'll finish ahead of the Nuggets--have to see what they look like on the court. After that, there's not much depth in the conference, but there's also only 2-3 spots left. Best case scenario in my mind is the 6th seed, assuming of course every team stays healthy for the most part.

Yeah I don't see it either. But I'm loving the fact that all the attention is gonna be focused on them. All that pressure for a young team

Lawson/Miller

AAA/Rudy/Hamilton

Gallo/Brewer

Nene/Harrington/Faried

Mozgof/Anderson /Koufos

I see us in the 6 spot. Not too many teams win in the Pepsi center so I'm hopeful.

DENVER (AP) -- The Denver Nuggets have signed hometown forward Michael Ruffin, a nine-year NBA pro who most recently played for Portland in 2008-09.

Ruffin's signing brings the Nuggets' training camp roster to 16.

Ruffin, who attended high school in the Denver area, has averaged 1.7 points and 3.9 rebounds with six teams in his NBA career. He spent part of last season coaching the Colorado Kings of the American Basketball Association before playing in Spain.
