Warner Bros. Reportedly Looking For Younger Actors To Play John Stewart

Apparently, the studio is hoping to find someone in their late 20s or early 30s to take on the role of John Stewart, a fan-favourite character whose big screen debut has been rumoured for years now.

This news comes after Black Panther star Sterling K. Brown revealed that he's interested in the role. He's 42-years-old, though, and this claim also puts the likes of Idris Elba and Tyrese Gibson out of the running (in the case of the latter, that's no bad thing).

Am I reading that right? The dceu is planning two joker movies?
yea

really ******* stupid

really pissing me off that they think thats a good idea it just reeks of desperation

why stop there lets get 3 different batman movies while were at it since you want to milk your famous characters with multiple different movies

they need to make john boyega john stewart **** it save that boy from that **** bowl star wars universe
The irony of this...But yes, I'm on board with Boyega as John Stewart

I'd still prefer Idris Elba, but I just don't see that happening. Mahershala Ali would be cool too, but i'm bias cause he's from Oakland.

Can't say I was crazy about Leto's joker. Wish it was just Joaqin doing it.

DC is a ******* mess right now.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS Finds A Director And Character Breakdowns

That Hashtag Show can confirm that director Rupert Wyatt is currently attached to the film which is currently scheduled for a 2020 release. Wyatt, best known for 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and is in post-production now on his sci-fi thriller Captive State, which he also wrote and produced, and seems to have cleared his schedule to take on the ambitious Green Lantern Corps film.

The film, which has been described as Lethal Weapon in Space, will see an older Hal Jordan mentoring the young John Stewart. Though the roles remain open, the studio is looking for someone 39-50 for the role of Jordan while looking for someone quite a bit younger for the role of Stewart, hoping to catch an actor in his 20s.

Hal Jordan: Caucasian, 39 – 50. A former military test pilot, he is now a veteran of the Green Lantern Corps.

John Stewart: African- American male, 21 – 30. Prior to joining the Green Lantern Corp, he was a sniper in the military.

The move to Wyatt, who walked away from the long-gestating Gambit film, represents a bold move for WB. Wyatt has said in the past he prefers to direct his own screenplays but is open to films whose scripts he believes work well as written. With this project, Wyatt will be working from a script written by David Goyer and Justin Rhodes which is expected to follow some of the beats of Stewart’s comic book origins.

AWESOME NEWS!

Can't wait!

rumors of the DCEU overhaul

Changes Start With Suicide Squad 2

Suicide Squad 2 will go a long way in "redeeming" some familiar faces. While the studio won't recast characters like The Joker, Killer Croc, and Deadshot, pretty much every member of Task Force X is reportedly getting a makeover so that the fan-favourite villains resemble their comic book counterparts.

In the case of The Joker, that reportedly means that he'll lose the "Damaged" tattoo and jewellery but will keep the teeth (which makes sense if the studio finally addresses the fact that Batman attempted to destroy his smile). Of course, with Suicide Squad 2 still in development, who knows how much this will change. It is, however, worth noting that Geoff Johns will be closely involved with the sequel.

The Batman Won't Be A Prequel

The Batman is being envisioned as a one-off movie rather than a prequel or the sort of superhero movie which sets the stage for a new trilogy or anything like that. Instead, it seems Warner Bros. is taking a very careful approach to the movie as the studio has started cooling on what they originally thought would be a "Gothamverse" of sorts made up of everyone from Batman to Nightwing and Batgirl. While this movie will be in the DCEU, it sounds like it will be standalone in nature.

Bye Bye Ben Affleck?

No one is really talking about Ben Affleck being involved with The Batman as Matt Reeves is looking to recast the Caped Crusader and has written the screenplay with someone else in mind. It's said that the filmmaker wants someone who is "younger, slimmer, more agile, and more intense."

Matt Reeves's Inspiration

We know that Matt Reeves decided not to use Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns's screenplay for The Batman and instead went back to the drawing board for his take on the Dark Knight. So, what does he have in store for the character? Well, it's said that the filmmaker is looking to keep the story grounded but will introduce at least some slight fantastical elements which fans of the hero will be familiar with.

Directors like Christopher Nolan, David Lynch, and Michael Mann are said to be among his inspirations and that could give us at least a vague idea of what his take on Batman's world will end up looking like.

Which Villains Will We See?

It's said that concept art for a number of characters has been created and that includes villains like Two-Face, The Penguin, The Riddler, and Victor Zsasz. There's nothing to say any of them will appear, of course, but all of them are said to be fairly comic accurate in appearance which is bound to make fans happy. Before anyone cries about there being too many baddies, some could just be minor cameos!

Interestingly, it's claimed that The Batman's Penguin is being based on the Emperor Penguin version of the villain and that he's been modelled after a very dapper looking Richard Armitage in concept art. This leak is actually a few weeks old but The Penguin was named as the possible big bad in this movie just days ago. Reeves is said to be creating a Penguin every bit as imposing as The Batman himself.

A Female Robin

Among the concept art which is said to be doing the rounds at Warner Bros. is a design for a female Robin. Now, there's precedent for that in the comic books and if **** Grayson is Nightwing and Jason Todd is dead, why couldn't the Dark Knight have recruited Stephanie Brown instead of Tim Drake?

It's been a very long time since we saw Robin on the big screen anyway and this would shake things up in an interesting way. Still, I can't help but wonder whether or not this female Robin (who could also be Carrie Kelly thinking about it) could be Barbara Gordon who later becomes Batgirl instead.

Another Armoured Batsuit

The final piece of intel from the rumoured concept art is said to be a heavily armoured new Batsuit. How this will differ from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice remains to be seen but it's described as being "militarised." It's possible that Matt Reeves has just envisioned a totally new look for the character and this could be his permanent look or the hero will need it for a specific reason. I guess time will tell on that front but it would be cool to see more alternate suits for the Caped Crusader!

Where Things Currently Stand With The Movie

The script has apparently been completed and Matt Reeves is now going through and editing it. He's said to be involved in every stage of the creative process so will obviously be very hands on here.

Here's hoping that remains the case as Warner Bros. has lost a lot of filmmakers in recent years due to "creative differences" and The Batman losing another director would probably end it once and for all. Bear in mind that it was initially rumoured to be released last year at the latest and the clock is ticking!

DCEU deserves an overhaul.

We need respect returned to Batmans name and a Green Lantern reboot

We need Deathstroke too.

Also have you guys read Batman v Deathstroke "Sins of the Fathers" ?

heard rumors he might be going broke as the main reason he wants to stay(?)

I think if Reeves prefer someone else but he might be stuck with Affleck if he wants to stay

@ Batfleck going broke.
Don't care if its true or not really, but if you asked me what actor would do another Batman film because of their financial situation, I wouldn't think of Batfleck first.
Just the idea of that makes me laugh

rumor was sketchy and that's why I didn't post it here

then again dude was going to rehab for being drunk and a known gambler, not to mention he had a divorce last year and if there is even a 1% chance...

We'll see... supposedly he's having a change of heart...

Its gonna be hilarious when DC announces a separate 2nd Batman movie, this time with Batffleck actually starring and directing using that discarded script with Johns just revamped a bit :lol

With a 3rd Joker added to boot.

if there is a movie DC needs to fast track, it is Gareth Evans Deathstroke film!!!!!

Manganiello recently appeared on Chris Hardwick's new podcast, ID10T (formerly The Nerdist Podcast) to reveal that he has at least had a facetime chat with Evans.

"There were talks with Gareth Evans and talks of an origin movie. I'm not giving news, this was [already out there]. But I spent 6 months prior to all of those phone calls, writing a backstory, which was turned into 16-pages, which was turned into a treatment, which led to my skype call with Gareth."

Not long ago, it was revealed that Gareth Evans (The Raid and The Raid 2) was set to direct the film but his recent social media posts with fans seem to imply that his schedule is locked tight until 2020, working on other projects.

I remember being so shocked but happy Gareth was attached to any comic movie but given DC has been DC the past 5 years I am not at all surprised he's moved on.

DC hasn't paid that any mind during all of their turmoil. Still gets no attention.

Hope Marvel snatches him up for Shang-Chi or Moon Knight.

i don't think he's move one, just busy at the moment but Manggotsomerippedpecboobies mentioned talking to him but it also looks like Deathstroke might be the main baddie for SS2 so they'll both be busy

hopefully both are available by 2020 (which evans seems to be and Mangmotorboatingvergara really has no works)

Geoff Johns Exits DC Entertainment For New Writing And Producing Role; Will Pen GREEN LANTERN CORPS Screenplay; Jim Lee becomes CCO

It's been confirmed today that DC Entertainment President and CCO Geoff Johns is stepping down from that role in order to take on a writing/producing role with Warner Bros. and DC. The acclaimed writer will launch Mad Ghost Productions, a banner which will see him work on content for films, television, and comic books (an area he's been mostly absent from since being promoted to that role in 2016).

Artist Jim Lee is taking over as Chief Creative Officer while still serving as DC Comics publisher alongside Dan DiDio. "I took on a role at DCE because I love the characters and this universe more than anything," Johns explained in a statement today. "But, I want to spend my days writing and on set. I’m thrilled to get back to a more hands-on creative role. It’s a dream job on dream projects, reaching even deeper into DC’s vast pantheon of characters."

Well, he'll first pen the screenplay for Green Lantern Corps and will also serve as one of the long-delayed movie's producers. He's also written the "Doom Patrol" episode of Titans which is expected to launch a spinoff series for those characters on the DC Universe digital service. On the comic book side, he has a lot of exciting new projects in the works, including a new Shazam! series this fall.

He's also set to pen Three Jokers, a title which is expected to resolve that big DC Rebirth mystery surrounding the Clown Prince of Crime. Johns is also launching The Killing Zone, a new DC label which will put the spotlight on lesser known characters who haven't been given the spotlight for a while.
