I think the end of WW left such a good feeling when you leave Diana reflecting on that one picture from Bruce. I think they should have left him dead.

But I am interested to see how they pull this off.

Chris Pine just wanted to some more Gal :smh:

Warner Bros. Shifts DC Strategy Amid Executive Change-Up

Two Joker movies and a 'Back to the Future'-style 'Flash' are among the new initiatives as the studio plots an Affleck-less Batman and stops dating movies far in advance.

How many Joker movies are too many? That's one question that Walter Hamada, named president of DC Entertainment-based film production at Warner Bros. in January, needs to figure out.

With the recent departures at DC — the studio said June 6 that Diane Nelson, who's been on leave, is not returning as president, and The Hollywood Reporter revealed June 11 that top exec Geoff Johns is moving into a producing pact — Hamada is even more firmly in charge of the film reins.

The exec, who successfully oversaw the Conjuring movies at New Line, inherited a slate in disarray and has quietly spent months sorting through projects. "He walked into a ****show, and he's trying to clean it up," says one insider familiar with the scene.

In the wake of Wonder Woman's surprise $821.8 million worldwide gross and Justice League's disappointing $657.9 million last year, Warners' DC plans needed a reset. According to insiders, Hamada has spent months going over the projects in development, culling certain ones, elevating others, keeping an eye on the big marquee heroes while also developing lesser-known characters that could pop big. This year, there's only one DC movie on the schedule — Aquaman, James Wan's take on the hero that stars Jason Momoa and opens Dec. 21.

Next year there will be two: Shazam!, starring Zachary Levi, and Wonder Woman 2, which begins shooting June 13. Then there are two potential Joker features — one to star Jared Leto, who played the character in 2016's Suicide Squad, and another, starring Joaquin Phoenix, that Todd Phillips will direct. Phillips' movie, expected to begin shooting in the fall, is budgeted at about $55 million, a fraction of most superhero pics, and may be launched under a new label that could be branded with a name like "DC Dark" or "DC Black."

But the other DC movies are leaving behind the dark and brooding palette. The Flash, which will finally begin production in early 2019 with Ezra Miller starring, has abandoned the somber themes it had been expected to tackle. The film now has the Game Night team of John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein on board, and it's looking to Back to the Future as a touchstone. Margot Robbie, who brought a manic energy to Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, figures in the female-centric Birds of Prey, a Quinn spinoff film that is moving along with Sundance filmmaker Cathy Yan attached to direct. Meanwhile, a Batgirl movie, which had been in development with Joss Whedon before losing the director in February, is currently on track with Bumblebee screenwriter Christina Hodson penning a script.

The big question mark going forward is the future of Batman. Writer-director Matt Reeves turned in the first act of a new screenplay during the Memorial Day weekend. It's said to focus on a young caped crusader, and while the studio would not comment, it's unlikely that Ben Affleck, who has played Batman in three features, will again don the cowl.

Whatever Hamada does, the upcoming plans come as a federal judge on Tuesday approved AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner, the parent company of both Warner Bros. and DC. One thing the exec will not be doing is convening a writers room, say insiders. Certain studios have taken that tack, such as Paramount and Hasbrowith their toy-based properties, Universal with its monster universe, and Legendary with its creature features.

“Walter is philosophically opposed to that approach," says one insider.

Hamada and his boss Toby Emmerich, sources say, also are not looking to date upcoming titles in advance, something they're convinced has bedeviled the DC movies since 2013's Man of Steel. "Walter has a specific design for the universe," says one insider familiar with his thinking. "He has a plan."

DC Dark Or DC Black Will Be The Label For Standalone Movies
injustice-2-swamp-thing.jpg

Well, some fans are going to have a field day with this! We've known for a while now that Warner Bros. is launching a new label which will release lower budget, adult orientated DC Comics adaptations. That will start with The Joker, an 80s set origin story directed by Todd Phillips (we'll reveal more on that later in this post). Apparently, the current plan is for the studio to call this label "DC Dark" or "DC Black."

That's a little on the nose but works well enough and while an argument could be made that movies like Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad fit into the "DC Dark" name, it actually has some potential!

A Much Lighter Take On The Flash

While that new label is going to embrace darker stories, the rest of the DC movies will be moving away from that. The Flash, which the trades notes is set to begin production early next year, has reportedly abandoned the "somber themes" it was originally going to tackle. Now, with John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein on board, the project is said to be using Back to the Future as a touchstone.

Whether or not that means time travel will still be involved obviously remains to be seen for now.

A Younger Batman

Batman's future has been in doubt for quite some time now and we've heard conflicting reports about what Matt Reeves has planned for the Caped Crusader. Well, the trade reveals that the filmmaker actually turned in the first act of a new screenplay during Memorial Day weekend (just the first act, mind you; he clearly has a very long way to go before The Batman's script is actually good to go).

Apparently, Reeves' movie focuses on a younger version of the Dark Knight and while the studio wouldn't respond to their requests for a comment, it's said that Ben Affleck is unlikely to return.

The Joker's Low Budget Origin Story

As you no doubt already know, there are plans in place for two different Joker movies. One will star Suicide Squad's Jared Leto's and the other will focus on a very different Clown Prince of Crime played by Joaquin Phoenix. The latter will reportedly have a budget of around $55 million, a sign that Warner Bros. clearly isn't going to be spending a lot of money on these darker, R-Rated standalone movies.

The Other DC Films In Development

The trade points out that a number of DC Films are now in development beyond next year's Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 but the only two they share any firm details on are Birds of Prey and Batgirl.

Cathy Yan remains attached to direct the former (which will put the spotlight on Harley Quinn after Margot Robbie's breakout performance in Suicide Squad) and Bumblebee scribe Christina Hodson is currently hard at work penning Batgirl's screenplay after the movie lost writer/director Joss Whedon.
Walter Hamada's Big Plans For The DCEU
Superman-_Comic-_New-_Origin-_Story.jpg

When Walter Hamada was appointed the new head of the DC Films Universe, he apparently inherited a slate that was in disarray and has spent months sorting things out. One insider even says that, "He walked into a sh**show, and he's trying to clean it up." He's now culled a number of projects, elevated others, and is keeping an eye on marquee heroes while developer lesser known ones too.

One thing Hamada won't be doing is assembling a writers room, an approach which a number of other studios have attempted with mixed results. Oh, and you can forget about a slate being revealed at Comic-Con. Neither he nor Toby Emmerich see dating titles in advance as a smart idea as it's hurt these movies in the past. "Walter has a specific design for the universe. He has a plan," claims an insider.

Not surprised by him coming back. If it's not a flashback, I dont expect a good explanation.

Ok so while I'm not at all enthused or excited with most of what DC is coming out with in the short time I will say I may just have some confidence in Hamada.

Dude seems to have a handle on things and some vision for the DCEU. While not a long term multi year roll out set in place he should at least .make it clear what movies will actually release any given year.

I may just go back to ignoring rumors about what movies DC is allegedly going to make though.

watch it be steves great grandson looooool
So definitely a mix of Bucky to Winter Soldier and Peggy Carter to Sharon Carter
