Darius Miles?

tupac miles wont resign with them after them donig him dirty and like CP said They force someone to say that his injury is career ending so they can collectthe insurance, he wont resign with them

if anything, I would think the team that could be exposed to litigation now would be the blazers... by Miles. what they're doing is adversely affectinghis own personal interests.

The plot gets thicker.

NBA tells teams Miles free to be signed

Despite the Portland Trail Blazers' efforts to dissuade teams from signing Darius Miles, the NBA sent out a memo on Friday morning that makes clear it won't stand in the way of the free-agent forward's return to the league.

The league notified teams on Friday that Miles had cleared waivers and is eligible to be signed to a standard contract. "Any such contract," the league wrote in the email, "would be approved by the NBA."

"What they're saying is: 'Don't let that scare you off,' " said one Eastern Conference GM who had received the memo.

An NBA spokesman wasn't immediately available to respond for comment or clarification regarding the memo.

The Memphis Grizzlies waived Miles on Tuesday after he played in two games for them. If Miles plays in two more games, the remaining $18 million of his contract will go back on the Trail Blazers' salary cap.

Blazers president Larry Miller sent out an email to every NBA team threatening possible legal action should Miles be signed for the "purpose of adversely impacting the Portland Trail Blazers' salary cap and tax positions."

Cavs owner upset with Blazers' threat

The Portland Trail Blazers' threat to possibly sue any team that signs free-agent forward Darius Miles has created a firestorm of reaction around the league.

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert emailed Blazers president Larry Miller to say he took exception with Portland's threat.

Yahoo! Sports obtained Gilbert's email because it was carboned to the rest of the league's owners and executives.

"With all due respect…although the Cleveland Cavaliers have no interest in signing Darius Miles and will not be signing Darius Miles," Gilbert wrote, "I find your email quite peculiar from two standpoints:

"1. It's dead wrong. I believe that all 30 NBA teams were and are fully aware of the terms and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement as to which all teams and the NBA are a party to, including the Portland Trailblazers.

"2. Are legal threats through a mass email the best way to circumvent the known potential consequences that could result from the Trailblazers decisions and actions they took with respect to Darius Miles?

"I fully understand the frustration you and your team's ownership must be feeling in regards to this situation, but a preemptive threat of 'litigation' directed at all of your partners through a group email does not sit well with me and seems to be incongruent with the spirit of keeping a 'fiduciary duty' and good 'partner-like duty' to your 'NBA joint venturers.'

"I would think there has got to be a better tactic than this one."

to Dan Gilbert for taking a stand against that stupid threat the Blazers made. You tell him Gilbert

I think I'm interpreting it differently...I think the Blazer's only sent that email under the idea...a team that has NO business signing DMiles, meaning the position he would play for that team is already 4 deep...SOLELY to hurt the Blazer's, they'd take issue with that.

They'd be stupid to fire off that email otherwise. Look at the wording "purpose of adversely impacting the Portland Trail Blazers' salary cap andtax positions." Would be hard to prove, but depth chart could help.

The Portland Trail Blazers sent an email to rival team executives late Thursday threatening possible litigation to any franchise that signs free-agent forward Darius Miles for the "purpose of adversely impacting the Portland Trail Blazers' salary cap and tax positions."

The email cites Wednesday's Yahoo! Sports report that if Miles plays in two more games this season, the remaining $18 million on his contract goes back on the Blazers' payroll.

"The Portland Trail Blazers are aware that certain teams may be contemplating signing Darius Miles to a contract for the purpose of adversely impacting the Portland Trail Blazers Salary Cap and tax positions," Blazers president Larry Miller wrote in the email to representatives of every NBA team. "Such conduct by a team would violate its fiduciary duty as an NBA joint venturer. In addition, persons or entities involved in such conduct may be individually liable to the Portland Trail Blazers for tortuously interfering with the Portland Trail Blazers contract rights and perspective economic opportunities.

"Please be aware that if a team engages in such conduct, the Portland Trail Blazers will take all necessary steps to safeguard its rights, including, without limitation, litigation."

Teams had been under the impression the collective bargaining agreement demanded that Miles play 10 regular-season or postseason games for the $18 million - which is split evenly between this and next season - to return to the Blazers' payroll. But the league office confirmed to Yahoo! Sports that the six preseason games that Miles played for the Boston Celtics counts toward the 10. Before the Memphis Grizzlies waived him on Tuesday night to avoid guaranteeing his contract for the rest of the season, Miles played two regular-season games that pushed him to eight total.

"They're daring someone to sign him now," said one Western Conference GM who had seen the email from the Blazers.

Any team in the NBA can sign Miles to a 10-day contract, play him twice and punch out one of the summer's top free-agent destinations. The Blazers are a prime destination for free agents, and the cap space also made them a fierce competitor for sign-and-trade deals. If Miles returns to the salary cap, he also will push Portland into the luxury tax. That means every team under the tax would benefit with about $250,000 of revenue sharing from Portland.

"The point that everybody is missing is that this isn't about Portland's salary cap. It's about whether this guy [Miles] is healthy enough to play or not," said an Eastern Conference executive. "He obviously is healthy enough to play. It doesn't matter how good he plays. He can still play, and they said he couldn't.

"Portland received benefits when [Miles'] injury was ruled career-ending. If he can play, they don't deserve to have those benefits."

What a pathetic franchise. They force someone to say that his injury is career ending so they can collect the insurance, and then when the bum rehabs himself and gets a chance to play again, they threaten every other team in the league so they can keep their money they didn't deserve.

I don't care what team this is, the is a low class ploy and they should be exposed for it. I hope someone signs the bum and let the Blazers try to sue them. They'll look more ridiculous then they already do. They'll look awesome in court talkin bout how his career should be over and they deserved the money, even though he can now play and resume his career.

Bums.

If Miles can still play how come he didn't stick around in Boston or Memphis and didn't even play any significant minuets? An INDEPENDENT doctor fromthe NBA PLAYERS UNION made the decision that Miles INJURIES were career ending. To say that statement was false means the Union appointed doctor lied, not thePortland Trail Blazers. It seems the teams that did sign him did so just to get him to play games. It doesn't appear that anyone really wants him on theirteam. Do any of you really want DMILES on your favorite team?!?!

/\ lol he could still play because he was PHYSICALLY able to get on the floor and participate in the game. If he was unable to play...he wouldn't have beenable to do that. Both Boston and Memphis have made comments stating that he definitely was healthy enough to play.

Jon......if you TRULY beleive the Blazers didn't have ANY part in a doctor saying his injuries were career ending........then I don't know what to tellyou brother.

From minute one, the SECOND he got hurt, they were pushing for his contract to be voided any way they friggin could. They wanted no part of his contract anymore. I'm not sayin they are wrong in that part, the dude sucks, I don't blame them, but THEY signed the contract. It was owed to him from that pointforward, EVERY PENNY.

I don't care what doctor or whose doctor it was, they had a say in the descision. Come on, how was his injury so much worse then any other player withMicroFracture surgery? They all come back and played, why wouldn't Miles be able to at least attempt to do so?

And why would the Celtics and the Grizz of all teams care about screwing over the Blazers?
laugh.gif
You reachin my dude. Teams are gonna give a guy a shot if they think he canhelp. He can't, they'll cut ties. It's the business of the NBA. Nobody gives a damn about the Blazers salary stupidity. However, now I thinkthey might given the stupid email threat sent to everyone.
smh.gif

I'm a blazers fan and I honestly dont think the team has done right by miles. He earned his contract and was coming along fine before the injury. He evenhad a 40+ point game against Carmelo.
He hurt his knee and and made the mistake of trying to comeback early which led to him having 2 microfracture surgeries.

Last season he was at the practice facility TWICE a day and working out to get back in shape. He gained a lot of weight over the period where he was out and heworked HARD to get back in playing shape.

Once the team got rid of Zach he was the last remaining player from the "Jailblazers" days and they wanted no part of him. They wouldnt even let himtravel w/ the team on the road.

He wanted to play but the team kept telling him his career was over. Even though the independent doctor said his knees weren't sound enough to play, Ithought it was fishy that the "10 game rules" was even in place. (You havent heard the same thing about Cuttino and the Knicks) Obviously the Blazersknow he can still play.

It's plain to see the Blazers dont want him around and want to move in a different direction. That's fine, but they need to honor the contract theysigned him to.

It's funny how Dan Gilbert is the one to make the statement. especially considering how pissed he is when people talk about LeBron. Anyway I dont think the6 preseason games should count towards his 10. you know how many teams run out pieces of crap to play preseason games cuz they got no one else. lol. Anyway Ithink D. miles should stay home and count his $18 mil.

Memphis cutting Miles had nothing to do with him not being able to play anymore. Darko got hurt so they felt they needed another big man to step in. Ibelieve he also got cut from the Celtics because they chose Bill Walker over him and he got in trouble early on in the season. Im by no means saying theBlazers are lying, but what they are doing right now is downright grimey. First off the Blazers were the ones who called for Miles to be examined for a careerending injury and I really find it hard to believe that the Blazers had no say in who the doctor was. Bottomline, he can still play which is the opposite ofwhat the independent doctor said so they shouldnt get any benefits from the doctors mistake.

and it 100% should be.

he could still play, as much as i like portland's team right now they can not do anything if another team signs darius.

actually, signing dmiles wouldnt be a bad thing for the lakers. we are already without l-ownage and fluke. signing him to a 10 day contract and giving himsparing minutes wouldn't hurt. we could just release him after odom comes back or keep him if he's productive.

DO IT MITCH!!!

Yes, I know this. Instead of quoting part of a sentence, quote the whole thing so you see what I was talking about.

In the sentence, I was saying that they regretted the deal they gave him. Soon as he signed it, every penny was going to be paid, one way or another. Theywent after insurance money and cap relief, now it's biting them in the butt if he makes it back for 2 more games.

If I'm the Nuggets, and in their division and a rival and have Melo on the shelf for a few weeks, I sign him. What do they have to lose playing him in acouple garbage time games and screwing over a division rival in the process?
