Drake is the king of this ****.

He got the white voice, black voice. He from Canadian, he from Houston.

I was gon say something about him pages ago . We forget he's mixed. That dude navigates the media perfectly. Social media, interviews...the whole 9.

But before this turns into a whole "talking white" vs sounding intelligent stupid argument....lets make it clear. A lot of us are speaking about the inflection, tone, expressions that Kanye or Drake may use when they are talking to a certain demographic vs others.

Like my inflection and tone doesn't change in my "work voice" from my at home voice. I just don't use certain phrases.

Kanye and Drake etc be sounding like two completely different people depending on who they're around.

Really simple. When people are in a formal place or getting interviewed, they will use proper English. Everybody self corrects more or less. It's like people have never seen a rapper being interviewed in their whole life. If Kanye likes to speak "regular" English, let it be. He blends ebonic dialect and English just like Drizzy or hell Kendrick and Future when getting interviewed, and people are getting mad... wut?

Right. Look at Kendrick and J Cole. Both of them are articulate and clear w/o sounded like different people. Somebody Tariq Nasheed or Boyce Watkins are sharp/great speakers while still being true to who they are.

It's unfortunate though cuz this society puts that pressure on us to where some black people feel like we have to change our whole character to make white people comfortable with us.

So glad I came back into this thread seeing more people argue the point I was trying to make. This _ Kanye has three different people inside of him and that's OK with a lot of you dudes. Interesting to say the least

That sht he does on IG is a blatant character though. I'm not even talking bout plies being "educated". When he's chillin, he teally talks like the vid posted. That's how plies came in the game.

He only relevant for his trolling now. Plies ain't new. What do people know him for now? Sweet pwussy sat-a-day? Crimma? Bihhh?
But aren't most entertainers CHARACTERS?

The fact dudes have to code switch based on the audience makes it painfully obvious that discrimination is real

Ain't eem gon front. My first interview and job outta college...I put on the "Kanye white voice" for about 2 months. Sht was like wearing a costume. I hated it. It was exhausting. Laughing at sht I knew wasn't funny, talking in tones I knew wasn't natural, being silent on things I knew wasn't right. That wears down on you HEAVY in the work place. I just hit a point where I was done with playing that game. Said fk it. Just was my natural self, and was flourishing.

It's tough though. Getting in that "door" requires a lot of us to pretend. It sucks.

With only having read this page on the thread Ima post this and then dipset outta here

Watched the Die Antwoord video, then the Ellen rant and I understood why dude blocked him. I feel like he felt in Kanye's crib watching the Ellen vid. Just a cringe. There's some weird **** going on there we can't just paint as different or unique.

Saw the Die Antwoord vid and thought they were weirder than him

The porn thing was weird but they were gassing everything he did...

He just offered them banana pudding and chicken and they tried to make it some weird philosophical question like who overthinks someone asking you if you want banana pudding lol? They were trying too hard to piece together a perception they already had of him

Sidenote we need Dave Chappelle Show back...
