think they don't pass modern crash standards no more :smh:

The reason we'll likley never see them again is pedestrian safety standards and to a lesser degree, drag coefficents.

Manufacturers could also go the route of hideaways ie 68 Charger, slideaways ie Jag XJ 220 or Clamshells ie 65 Buick Riveria.

They could just use that magic sky sunroof MB has.

It'll be purely aesthetics of course but it would be awesome of the headlights dims/blacks out during daytime.

Doesn't look unique to me. I see a little bit of every other car manufacturer in there, besides the front grille.

yup, it's replacing the 6, unfortunately I don't think it's going to be it's replacement in the 6's price range

I just looked it up. We're only getting M850?!? I guess. Makes sense because, you know, Cameros and Mustangs, but doesn't make sense, because Cameros and Mustangs.

there's going to be two engine options to begin with (though i think the torque on the 3L is an error, probably meant 380 instead of 580):

At launch, the new BMW 8-Series will be available with two engine options. The 840d xDrive is powered by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel six-cylinder unit with 315hp (320PS) and 580lb-ft (680Nm) of peak torque from just 1,750rpm. BMW says it’ll do 0-62mph (100km/h) in 4.9 seconds and it’ll be the cheaper option of the range, at least for customers in Europe.

The other version is the M850i xDrive, which is powered by a new twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 523hp (530PS) and 553lb-ft (750Nm) of peak torque from 1,800rpm. The new BMW M850i xDrive is capable of pulling a 0-62mph (100km/h) in a very impressive 3.7 seconds.

Both models are paired to an improved version of the eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, which features new management software and optimised hydraulic control in order to offer not only sportier gear shifts but better efficiency and smoothness as well.

It’s extremely pretty but the 850i should really have an enormous V12. That’s an 840i or 845i with a title to make it more impressive.

BMW 1-Series Sedan Arrives In North America (Mexico) With Two Turbo Engines

The entry-level 118iA has a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine that produces 136 hp (101 kW / 138 PS) and 162 lb-ft (220 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the front wheel. This setup enables the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 9.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 131 mph (212 km/h).

While the car isn’t fast, it does come reasonably well equipped as drivers will find a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, Sensatec upholstery and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. The car also has LED daytime running lights, rain sensing wipers and 17-inch alloy wheels. Other highlights include front sport seats and an infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display.

Moving up to the $569,900 MXN ($28,655 / €24,553) 120iA sedan rewards buyers with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developing 192 hp (143 kW / 195 PS) and 206 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. Thanks to the additional power and a more advanced eight-speed automatic transmission, the car runs from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.5 seconds and has a limited top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h).

Besides the larger engine, the 120iA features additional equipment including a panoramic glass roof, a split-folding rear seat and LED headlights.

There’s no word on whether or not the 1-Series Sedan will be offered in additional markets but it seems possible if the model proves successful in Mexico.

i wish the US are just into hot hatches in general which is ironic because people here love CUVs

the 1-series has decent potential though if they can churn out an M1... or 1M if that's a name they don't want to use and be the sedan version of the M2

Yah, we love crossovers but not hatchs which is essentially the same concept just smaller and lower.

The Audi A1 is dope too.

some CUVs are so small that they are practically the same size a hatch these days

iirc the Mercedes GLA, it's ground clearance makes it technically a CUV/SUV but the GLA45 AMG version is much lower and cannot be categorized as a CUV/SUV

8 series looks like an Infiniti Q60

BMW fell off a while ago, once they had the revamped design language across vehicles. 6 Gran coupe is the only dope car in their lineup IMO.
