Black women were the most “married” at some point.. and according to your logic… marriage = more net income… then why the HELL some 10-20-30-40 years later is black wealth still paling in comparison?

Marriage.
Wealth is a function of how much of one’s income is left after they attend to their needs. The more you have left, the more opportunity to grow your money you have.

You can certainly make the argument that marriage of two earners facilitates a household's ability to become wealthier. You can’t make the jump from that statement to “lack of marriage is indicative of a future failure to accumulate wealth.”

You said marriage equals a better net income. The least married equals lower income. Yet white women/white men are still the wealthiest, according to the graph YOU posted. Make it make sense

This is what I meant earlier when I said that any injection of nuance would eventually be met with absolutism. And let’s also not mention what behavioral impact the stigma of “absent black father” could have on how these men’s approach their role as nurturers.

I do consider myself one of those fathers; however, I am also part of in the “children are to be seen, not heard” generation, whose fathers were very much married, but left their wives do the raising and nurturing. My father wouldn’t know what to do with us if my mother had to leave for a couple of days (sometimes, to save her sister from her husband’s beatings lol). I know men from his generation who don’t touch anything in the kitchen, don’t repair their vehicles, don’t fix **** around the house, don’t help with the kids’ homework, won’t even go grocery shopping. AND THEY WERE HOME EVERY NIGHT.

What kind of knowledge do you think they’re passing on to their kids? Outside of providing resources to support the nurturing, what kind of benefits do you really think their presence brings?

Tbh I don’t the nuclear family is as important as some make it. Theres a dark side to it that some don’t think about. Yea, you got mom and dad in the house but one of them is abusive one way or another. Both parents are home but one or both of them are unhappy because this wasn’t the ideal situation for them. Now they’re sitting up in there full of resentment. People don’t realize how damaging THAT can be to a family unit. Doing it for the community sounds good until year 5. In the best case scenario, yes the nuclear family will help build a stronger black community, but the worst case scenario would be more damaging than single parent families. You gotta take the good with the bad.

It ALWAYS end up with some mystery male negro beating on some or a bunch of black women. The PROPAGANDA of The Color Purple is alive and well.

Let some folks in here tell it, the dynamic, structure, and format of a two parent household works for every other race……..except for black people for some unknown reason. A lot of black people…..as evidence in here LOVE coming up the rough side of the mountain. There’s an easier way black people.

My man, you must live in a place where systemic racism doesn’t exist. Here in America, it’s embedded in everything from education to housing to the legal system. There have been studies showing the school to prison pipeline. Racism and its negative impact on our community didn’t go away when they let our parents drink from any water fountain. You can catch the right episode of last week tonight to catch up on some of this. Also, see redlining and school funding.

And a lot of the progress that has been made is being rolled back by the current gop.

Nothing is without risk, and nothing is perfect.

If I want to get from Virginia to Texas, I'm going to take a flight.

Could the plane crash? Yes.

Could TSA hold me for additional checks? Yes.

Could the airline lose my luggage? Yes.

Could I end up sitting next to an obese white woman with bad hygiene? Yes.

Could I see more scenery by driving? Yes.

Could I take a Greyhound bus? Yes.

Could I drive? Yes.

Could I take Amtrak? Yes.

Could I walk, run, hike, bicycle, or Uber? Yes.

Are any of these options the most efficient or effective? No.

If the objective is to get to Texas, then I will choose the most efficient and effective way that has been proven to work over and over again.

Black folks are losing the race trying to do any and everything but run.

Is that not where we are now? You don't have to go all the way to domestic violence, 2 miserable parents aren't going to raise a healthy child. The child MIGHT turn out ok just like a child of a single parent. Soooo we back at square one. Unfortunately, everyone doesn't sit down and decide to have children, sometime people just "pop up". Asking those folks to stay together isn't going to further the black community. If anything its going backwards. See: "Shotgun Weddings". There is no way the "progress that has been made is being rolled back" with a strong black nation based on strong nuclear families.

Jews - strong nuclear families
Whites - strong nuclear families
Blacks up until the 1960s - strong nuclear families

There's a reason the powers that be did everything they could to destroy our families from the inside out.

The results speak for themselves.

If folks want to ice skate up hills and run away from the truth, then that's their business.

If your argument is against the nuclear family, then cool.

First of all, its like your only seeing what you want to see in this. You do understand man and woman who made baby doesn't automatically equal strong nuclear family? Secondly, how do you know what goes on in Asian and Jewish families? Because thats what it looks like? From the outside? Is that what you saw in your visiting? Are you really open to better solutions? Or are you just being facetious? The solution was stated pages ago.

Thats what I don't like about idealism. It only fits in a specific box. It can't bend, it can't compromise or improvise. If you take someone's idealistic views out of the box, "Well....well....."

You forgot to mention that the so called “school to prison pipeline” that you speak of consists of ALOT of young black males VOLUNTARILY signing up for jail these days. Nobody is going to jail for unpaid parking tickets champ. A lot of brothas want to be locked up……and deserve to be there truth be told.

The system is rigged but we aren't going to stop it, nor realistically slow it down. So you just gotta live within it and figure it out. Sounds harsh but it is what it is.

Be twice as better as others and behave your got damn self. Don't let "vices" derail you from doing what you need to do.

Anyone who argues that 1 income is better than 2 incomes isn't holding a position I'm interested in.

Of course, racism exists. So what? What are we going to do about it?

If upholding traditional values, nuclear families, and the simple concept of "marry before you carry" result in this kind of backlash in our community, then we are already cooked.

If our men are more interested in whining than winning, and place excuses over execution, we deserve to be exactly where we are.

If being "black" means I have to ignore the truth, indulge in ignorance, live below my capabilities, and watch everyone else advance while I sit on the sideline complaining, crying about "da white man", I'll continue to mind my own business and go my own way.
