Eeh I would argue the contrary
Back in the day you had to go to a bank in person to get any type of loan like a mortgage. Mfs being racist would find a way to deny you even if you were credit worthy.
Now you can do it over the internet. It levels the playing field because if you have good credit, mfs can't make up an excuse to deny you.

They ask what you do for a living to figure out how you can be useful to/for them. Especially if we're talking about building a network. Keep it a buck. The respect thing is true to am extent, but best believe they are sizing up how you can benefit them first and foremost.
Plus, giving respect based on a person's job/where they are at in life...I get it. But please don't make the mistake of talking down to Joe Schmo or treating him less than simply because of a job title.
