Halle Berry ignored event organizers to make the day of two black reporters at her John Wick 3 movie premiere in Los Angeles Wednesday.
Berry, 52, walked the red carpet with her co star Keanu Reeves taking interviews with various media outlets.
But when Oscar-winning actress reached two lesser known black reporters identified as Emerald Marie of Where’s the Buzz TV and another reporter, identified only as Lamar, the public relations company in charge of the premiere claimed there was no more time for an interview and a representative tried to usher her away.
Halle Berry turned on her heels and said “No, I can’t skip my brother and sister and joined the two journalists for an interview.
Emerald Marie went to Instagram to thank Halle Berry for her graciousness and to spill the tea on how black journalists often get treated at red carpet events.
NBA superstar LeBron JamesOpens a New Window. is teaming up with retail giant WalmartOpens a New Window. as part of a campaign to provide food, essential supplies and educational support to at-risk families.
The partnership is a collaboration between the LeBron James Family Foundation and Walmart’s “Fight Hunger, Spark Change” initiative, which raises money to provide meals for families based on purchases of items from participating companies such as Campbell’s Soup and General Mills. “Fight Hunger, Spark Change” has raised more than $74 million and provided nearly 1 billion meals since 2014 through its nonprofit partner, Feeding America.
“Growing up in Akron, the whole city supported my dreams, supported my friends’ dreams,” James said regarding the partnership. “They gave us shelter. Gave us food. We always felt like we had that support. Partnering with Walmart is about the commitment to the community. Walmart has done so many great things all over the world, but it starts in their hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas. Same as me starting in my hometown of Akron, Ohio. We don’t forget where we come from.”
James is raising awareness for the campaign by providing a curated list of items he relied on during his childhood, with all purchases generating donations for “Fight Hunger, Spark Change.” In addition, Walmart will help maintain a pantry full of food, toiletries and other supplies at James’ “I Promise School” in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, a public school for at-risk students.
The Los Angeles Lakers star will also participate in Walmart’s “Back to School” campaign later this year.
“What we hope to accomplish together with LeBron is to magnify each other’s efforts. We would love to help this model that he’s creating lead to a situation where it could help even more people,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said in a video about the joint initiative.
Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, is launching a campaign to become a Miami-Dade County commissioner, she announced Saturday. Fulton became a passionate gun control and anti-poverty activist following the shooting death of her unarmed teenage son seven years ago.
She’s challenging Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert for one of five open spots on the 13-member Miami-Dade County Commission.
“Since 2012, I have advocated tirelessly to empower our communities and make them safer,” she said in a statement Saturday. “But the work is not done. I am proud to announce that I will run to represent District 1 on the county commission.” She plans to officially launch her campaign on Monday.
Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old high school student when he was fatally shot in 2012 after a struggle with neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. Martin was confronted by Zimmerman while walking in a Sanford neighborhood where the teen was visiting with his dad. Protests erupted in the wake of Martin’s death over Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law. Zimmerman was acquitted of the killing.
Since her son’s death, Fulton has frequently spoken out about gun control, campaigned for Hillary Clinton, co-wrote a book about her experiences and launched the Trayvon Martin Foundation.
“Our county must continue moving forward so our families are safe from violence, can afford to live in Miami-Dade, and have access to good paying jobs,” Fulton said in her statement. “I am ready to take on these issues and many others in county government.”
Tariq was dropping gems about that Roe vs Wade thing. I never knew the backstory of that. This white lady lied (of course) and said a group of black men raped her so she can get an abortion then years later admitted she lied (to sell a book) and it was consensual sex she had with a black man.
And of course theres Gloria Alred with her![]()
