Basketball Thread About Nothing

Not at all. A much younger and lighter version if dunked on a whole ***** and just ran back and got on d, Shamgod’d dudes and made them fall before, we was just tryna hoop though not go viral for tik tok (which obviously wasnt out). Sometimes we’d go “duh nuh nuh, nuh nuh nut!, (the Sportscenter theme) but I dont ever think anyone danced as a taunt/celebration. Outside of dudes who argued too much or cheated, that was really the only super annoying nonsense we dealt with. And maybe “we got next” vs the down board and people finagling that.

But never having to stop the game so grown *** dudes can do choreographed celebrations they practice in the mirror at night after making basic also ran *** plays. Id say at least earn it if you’re going to taunt, but also act like you’ve been there before

🤣🤣🤣 speaking of which:

People in the comments saying the rim is lower. Watching it a couple times and watching the defender, that could be the case.

Or maybe the video is just warped and its regulation. I don't know anybody who would play 5v5 on a lowered rim in a gym with people watching from the sides and the ends.
Its 100% from that 8 ft rim league

I remember we had Goldner Fitness Center, rims were about 9’9.5 or so but that last 2.5 inches or so was miles when it came to being able to dunk vs not being able to dunk or barely or comfortably vs being Vince Carter. Court was small too, half court was barely passed the regular 3 so probably 50 feet long at best. It was the 3rd preferred gym in the hooper hierarchy but some preferred it for this reason alone. You feel like LeBron or something when you can grab a d board, take 4 dribbles and take off. Of course Army gyms dont allow dunking so you get kicked out if you get caught or are too load with it but it can be worth it. Last I checked and it was like a decade ago they turned Goldner into a full fitness gym and got rid of the courts

You are my man but I can hop on YouTube right now and find many examples of people from our era doing it 20+ years ago. I don't want to argue but this is definitely one of those, "Back in my day" types of things. So yea, I highly disagree with this notion that it wasn't as bad back then.

I will just post this one just for the fun of it.

Fair but thats not a “real” basketball game or even pickup game .
We all just disagree but either way I hate it. Get back on D. Stop undoing your basket by getting a taunting tech because you gotta mug someone. It’s ridiculous especially with most games coming down to 1 possession

That's crazy. I think I've even seen that video (definitely those dunks) but I guess I didn't pick up that it was a whole *** league  that's nuts.

Where I grew up there was one court outside with mistakenly low rims, probably 9.25 feet or something. It was definitely fun to play on & turn into 'Nique on. The people in the stands definitely threw me off :emoji_laughing:

I miss dunking (on a regulation rim). Never did it in a game, pickup or otherwise.

it really be a completely different experience from regulation to anything under it, especially when you don’t just have it easy like that…i’ll be 42 in a couple weeks, still putting my bids in to get a clean dunk on regulation 😮‍💨

You’ve never dunked on regulation? Or just trying to do it again for the first time in a while?

I used to do it easily game or not until about 25 the washedness (weight gain + sedentaryness/not hoopin). I actually havent touched a rock like that in that time frame except very scarce occassions of pulling up to the outdoor court alones and shooting fts. I am close to that weight I was back then but overall fitness and knees I probably got a way to go but yea Id like to make it a goal to dunk again too because when i was the court last time 10 ft moght as well have been a sky scraper. I did do a few strong glass tap lays tho

😔 nope, never officially got a dunk clean on 10ft…never really entertained trying really when i was younger, even though i could consistently grab the rim with 2 hands it just wasn’t something i even though about trying to do…i did punch in a one handed lob once in shootaround but never a dribble up, gather, dunk, shot clock definitely ticking on succeeding in this endeavor 🤣😂 i feel like i could catch a lob if sufficiently geeked up & the stars & moon aligned

at which age did you start feeling the decline on your athleticism

at which age did you start feeling the decline on your athleticism

difficult for me to pinpoint that, because it’s not like i ever was playing any sport at truly high level such that i really have a baseline…i’d probably say i really felt the decline when i injured my achilles @ 35, but i think it’s more that i feel it takes longer to both get loose & the time it takes to recover from activities at this point, i still ‘feel’ like once i start feeling loose i’m athletic as i ever was its just knowing that if i go really 100% i’m gonna feel it afterwards 😮‍💨

*edit* part of the reason i feel i’ve kept much of my athleticism is stayed hooping for much of my 30s and now even tho i don’t play nearly as much, i started lifting during pandemic to address ankle mobility from my achilles injuries and it has helped maintain, currently:

That's one of the best, if not the best shooting form I've seen in a minute. Guy should be in the league instead of wasting time with those bums.
