Basketball Thread About Nothing

Haven’t played since March....I miss it dearly. Riding a bike can’t replace that feel of winning the first 2 games in the gym. Smh.
Feel like my body has completely changed, game gonna be totally different when I finally get back. Lowkey spooked about losing a step. Getting old sucks man.

Yeah, both were cool with me. This was at a time that people still went to the park to ball, pick up run, full court to 21. At any time you could go to the park and ball, then see someone like Pearl, Ice, Carey Scurry and his brothers, and then just watch and learn. There was a tourney called Soul In The Hole in Bed Stuy, great run back then, where Ed Davender (rip) told me to keep the ball in my left hand at all times when bringing it up the court as a young cat. Once crack hit? All that was done.

I was using my dominant hand too much, the right.

This ended up hampering me to some degree - I ended up going left much more than right lol. Used to do 1k dribbles each night eyes closed with the left.

Blew my mind when I hooped in Canada and found out they call playin 21/Chicago.... ‘America’ :wow:

Youngins upped the blicky in Lifetime during pickup before the holidays :smh: can’t even go and put up shots anymore at the moment

man... i'm sooo scared to go back and play. my league was about to start, just paid dues and everything then BAM - shelter in place happened. haven't touched a ball since and even gained weight man... smh.

I hear you, I did not let it take over that much! Many of the plays I ran in high school had me running the offense on both sides of the court, depending on who was in the post.

Luckily I’m ambidextrous - my lefty floater might be better than my right. It’s a GOOD problem to have when teams scheme you going one way - I remember telling an opposing coach that I was a righty during a game and he called BS. 😂😂

Lol! Pearl would do his crossover on the break without stopping his run, full speed. He’d get dudes every single time on the break. I could only do it from right to left, and Ed Davender saw that, and would rip me at half court. I was a kid, so Ed hipped me to what I was doing wrong. Full speed, left right, THEN right left. Once I got that down? Shiiiiiiiiiii...lololololol

Another pet peeve of mine is spectators being so close to the action like that one on one vid posted recently. It's like "can't you just stand on the sidelines instead of right outside the 3pt arc?!?"

Man I haven't played a full court game in almost 10 months now... Gonna be so gassed early in games when gyms eventually open up again (don't even want to think of how much longer we are looking at still smh)

Do y’all play with and 1s?

Where I hoop in FL there is no and 1. It was weird at first but it’s been so long (10 yrs) I’m used to it now

can you explain it? it might be different terminology depending where a person is from.

In pickup, you get fouled while shooting (usually a layup) and can call And 1.... if you miss, ball up top, if u make it, count the basket. That’s how I remembered playing growing up.

But here if you call And 1 it’s considered as if you didn’t say anything at all. Basically u need to decide if you want to call a foul, as it happens. And if the ball goes in or not it doesn’t matter, ball up top.

depends who i play with. typically, the less talented crowd would conflate and 1 and foul while the more talented crowd makes a distinction between and 1 and foul as you highlighted in your latter example.

If you call foul/ball, the bucket doesn't count. (Unless the person that fouled you GIVES it to you).

Where I'm from, if you call And 1 you are just talking ****. If you think you got fouled, call ball or up top or foul or me or something, but if you call foul and make it anyways, too bad, your ball up top. If the defender calls foul for you but you finish anyways, bucket good. Ultimately, get your weight up and finish through contact.

based on my personal experiences/reality, whenever a foul is called, 99.7% of times the shot is missed, usually badly too.

i have witnessed many arguments when someone calls and 1 and misses but the opp doesn't give them the call because they called and 1 lol

I see

I thought it was a regional thing that and 1 is a no call
But I guess it’s the norm... or it became the norm over time

KHUFU KHUFU my pops is a MASSIVE Pearl fan so I implemented the spin VERY early in my career! Probably caused some of my knee issues 😂😂

Your team has game point & you have the ball...how are you gonna end the game and which spot on the court are you on?
