Basketball Thread About Nothing

Haven't hooped since March/April. I have stayed very active but running up and down that court is a different animal.

Yall been playing?

Nope. Last played in a rec league game in March/April.

Since my rec league shut down last March and the gyms around here closed the courts I have only shot around and played some one on one with a close friend.

Well I'm hoping to be able to play in gyms again this summer/fall but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it's longer...

I’ve seen some people do that this past week and that was legit one of the wildest things I’ve seen I a while. Full 5v5 running full speed with masks on. I miss it too but I can wait.

 Man, folks around here were hooping, 5-on-5 since JUNE.

I don't get it.

Smack dab in the middle of a pandemic

I’ve hopped bout 5x this fall. Mostly outdoor with *****s I know (like that makes a difference ). Not even going lie.

As a photographer, it's been hard not to pull up to a spot where cats are playing and get some shots. Damn rona :smh:

Listen, Genius who wakes up very early.

I can tell you all of that since he has told it before.

He says he's a "hybrid" consisting of Rafer Alston and Charlie Villanueva.

He is "always a top pick" at pickup games.

Takes his notebook and pen to "write down his stats" after every game. (I would love to see this because I want to see the looks of the other guys watching him write it down)

He must always wear a wristband on his left wrist.

Can't remember the rest.

randomly came across professional youtube hoopers - people who record their pick up games, men league games, 1s, etc. i would say most of them are prob high level HS to JUCOish/not so good 4 year uni type of players, which easily translates into looking pretty good when you play against weekend warriors, regular guys, etc. it was such a crazy concept to me in the beginning in which i questioned why would people want to watch this but these mfs be doing #s. all have been hooping without a care during the pandemic too lol

how do you guys normally play 1s?

2-3 Dribbles Max

(3, 5, 7 game) series or just one game? do you reset after a person misses the shot? if not, do you clear if someone doesn't hit rim (airball, all backboard) or gets ripped? 1s & 2s or 2s & 3s? how much do you go up to?

what are your thoughts on 2-3 dribbles being unfair to shorter people & post players?

imo the best workout is 1s

2's and 3's

Make it Take It

How many game just depends on how folks are feeling at the tie.

blatant hand-checking (riding you every move you make, not really moving their feet)
continuously dipping their shoulder on drives
kicking their leg out when you contest their jumpers
slapping your hand after you shoot a jumper (hand is only apart of the ball on layups iirc)

i am sure there are few others so feel free to list them.

Are y'all calling this? I know it depends on a case by case basis but i'm talking about the majority of time. Please provide your thought process.

31 year old 5’9 nigarean (black/Korean) usually ran the 1 and 2 in HS and my rec league games. Do work at la fitness but torn achilles, broken patella and 2020 def washed me up. Cant even imagine running a game right now. I’m excited but low key nervous to play again. ...whenever that happens..

Anyone ever vowed to never stop hoopin but ended up stopping ?

That's a part that has always confused me - I guess it's one of those regional things. If you miss everything and I rebound I can just shoot the ball?

Yea, if I shoot an airball or hit ALL backboard, you can just shoot after the defensive rebound.

Yeah, everything is taken back out here. The only thing that varies is sometimes it's the free throw line, sometimes it's the 3.

Although I never understood how people play "wall" being out of bounds though. Shouldn't you always play the line being OOB?
