Asian Culture Discussion Thread

This might legit be the most civil thread on NT where disagreements are always calm and never gets heated. We living up to the model minority standards

And as the OP of the thread I’m taking alc the credit. (Jk)

I mean other than the random anti Korean women rants that salty NTers bring up every once in a while, all the discussion topics are pretty civil and respectful. Most of us here have let go of the ultra-nationalist feelings our ancestors grew up with in Asia that led to everyone looking down on each other. We didn't grow up under any dictators that looked out for us over here, so we have no choice but to support each other  :pimp:

By the way, I've received a bunch of hate messages about being a "self hating half breed" on here from white NTers  My European family/ancestors don't even identify as, look, or act white, which makes it even more ridiculous

It ain't a Fung Bros video without a list. lmao. "FIVE WAYS Asian people are Asian".

I like their channel in general. Rich too. Their food/interview content is interesting. Style wise, am I the only one who feels like both the Fung Bros and Richie Le feel like throwbacks. Back to the snapback, Hundreds, LRG, etc days lol.

Those fung guys seem like they just made nt threads into videos. Sneakers, supreme, streetwear, and food. But I guess that’s what a lot of young Asians are into anyway.

I like richie le better because he knows he’s corny and doesn’t hide it even though he’s a nike stan. I guess some youtubers still make money because he got a new house and nice bmw.

I'm prob older than you (GenX 80s kid), originally from Midwest but used to live in Bay Area. So my perspective bit different.
One of best things about finding this Thread after so many years is the fact that we can have meaningful discussions.[/QUOTE]

Same for me, I'm uninterested in engaging in some of those other threads that are clearly intended/masked to spew against Asians.
This thread and everyone in here stays positive, hits on all our respective cultures, and actual intelligent conversation.

But I bet I'm older heheh.

That's crazy dude. Where are they coming at you from - like, they just randomly sent you hate messages? SMH
Stay positive and don't let them affect you. :nthat:

Not randomly; I always seem to get into it with the racist white dudes that pop up on here every once in a while cause I call out their BS. Then they end up getting mad that I'm not on their side since half of my family is from Europe, and because I identify more with Asian cultures (this is also how you can tell they're on backup accounts, cause they seem to know things I've said about myself YEARS ago). I've been called self hating half breed, traitor to my culture, etc. even though Portuguese people are not even close to these racist white trash clowns culturally/physically and are generally very friendly people. I don't get mad when they resort to those comments; I think it's hilarious

can any viets in here chime in why cantonese series, movies and music are popular in vietnam ??
i remember when i was a little kid and went to my vietnamese friends house his grandpa was always watching old cantonese tv series dubbed in vietnamese, while vice versa cantonese people will never mess with vietnamese movies or tv series

on FB i saw a lot of these vietnamese pages promoting cantonese music, movies and tv series

Probably just because Hong Kong cinema is/was incredibly popular.

Kinda like now with Korean dramas and stuff.

Sounds very simple & kinda stupid, not only the above reason but also close proximity of location.
Serious.

1. Vietnam has a big Chinese population that speaks Cantonese, especially in Cho Lon area of Saigon. This is where my family is from. I believe many Chinese families fled (with their money) during the communist regime started taking over, and opened businesses in Vietnam.

2. From the mid 80's to the Early 2000's Hong Kong music and Movies was among the forefront of Asian Entertainment. Hollywood of Asia if you will. Many stars emerged from this era of TVB Dramas and HK Movies. Andy Lau, Tony Leung, Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok, Leon Lai, Jackie Chan, Sammo, Stephen Chow, Chow Yun Fat, Donnie Yen, Jet Li. etc etc.

3. With the emergence of China as an economic powerhouse, and control of Hong Kong Government, many actors now film movies in China cause that's where the money is. Hong Kong directors probably have less artistic freedom now due to censorship concerns from the Chinese government.

From ~ 2010 to present, I would say Korea is at the forefront of Asian Entertainment now with Korean Dramas/K-pop. On TVB in Hong Kong, they actually dub Korean Dramas to show on TV now.

Hong Kong movies :pimp: I'll say this though; there's so many good crime movies from there that I thought HK really was a wild @#$ place before I started going there  it's actually very safe and peaceful there

I always found it kinda :rolleyes when The Departed won an Oscar for that blatant rip off/"remake"

I think the Fung Bros are kinda corny, but I respect their grind.

Well The Departed was a great movie.

Emily Ghoul be on youtube showing off her plump breast cleavage and decent butt. Her going on all those nice vacations has me wondering if she’s “sponsored”.

What's with the emergence of all these plastic Korean and Chinese IG thots? My IG explore is flooded with them.

It’s just their turn right now. They saw everyone else doing it and wanted social media likes and thirst too.

I wouldn’t doubt if a certain nt’er was one of them. he got banned from the star wars thread. Anyway, wish her character’s hot sister was the one who survived.

Star Wars racist and sexist fanboys at it smh

These loser virgins have nothing better to do than get mad at a fictional movie character? If you think the character is dumb, that's related to the writers, not the person trying to earn a paycheck. #$#%#% ridiculous, no wonder these geeks got punked in real life for the past century until it became cool to like these types of movies

I have a Japanese version of that type of girl visiting me next month, but I kinda don't want to do it. At times I want to smash again (originally met her in Tokyo last month) but she wants to hang out with me "regularly" too, and in normal lighting she barely looks human sometimes (like that plastic Kylie Jenner look)  I'm trying to find ways to only meet up late at night at dim lit bars or hotel rooms (apartment hunting next month, so she can't stay with me the whole time). Those types of girls only look good on IG or wax museums
