My father is obsessed with american two dollar bills. He goes to the bank to get 50 two dollar bills just to give them away everytime he goes back to the mother land

Fam just had a Tet dinner tonight
Got $180 from all the red envelopes -- this is the most I've ever gotten

My dad beat my a** over an A minus. He asked me what that smudge behind the A grade was and I told him it's a minus sign. He lost it. I was grounded for two weeks and told I lost my privileges to go out with friends until I brought my grades back up. Zero tolerance in my house growing up. |l
Sorry you had to experience that. I'm happy to hear that you overcame that pressure and overcame that stuff.

I had a friend in HS who ended his life because his parents weren't happy with a 3.5.

Moms wasn’t the only to go in on the *** whoopings. Grandma had the Hacksaw Jim Duggan 4 x 4 on deck just in case her grandkids were misbehaving.

Fyi: US Treas Dept-Bureau Engraving and Printing handles all US currency. Actually have a gift shop program like the US Mint for coins. Your father might enjoy some of their unique stuff. I've brought Overseas as gifts.

Honestly my parents yelled at me a lot when I was a kid, but it got to the point where I wasn’t listening to them in high school and was getting Bs, Cs, and even a F in pre calc where they gave up on me and let me do my own thing. I didn’t mature until my last year of high school, which I got my act together and had a 4.0 in my last year to get my GPA up to 3.0 lol. If I tried hard enough in high school,I would have went to a better college, but I don’t really regret going through all that.

Anyway, there was this one time when I was 9 and I was in a swimming class. This swimming class made us jump off the platform into the water. I was too chicken to do it so I skipped the platform. My mom was in attendance to see me practice, so when she saw me chicken out, she immediately stood outside the swimming pool waiting for my ***. When the class was over, she chewed me out first for being a wuss than she freaking ran over to her car in an attempt to ditch me and not drive me back home
Luckily I was fast enough to catch up to her and got into the car, but that was not one pleasant car ride.

I think there were many times my mom wanted to leave me because I was being a lil jerk (I mean I was being one), but when she got that mad, I would try to make it up to her. Now that’s what I regret is making my mom’s life hell as a kid.

During an argument where I went too far, my mom threw a shoe at me so hard that when I ducked, it cracked the @#$@ out of our window  I've also been attacked with every kitchen utensil in the drawers and every broom/mop within hand's reach
in 2002 when i came home my mother received a letter that i kicked out of school again for the 5th time and she found out that i was pretending to go to school for the past 3 months, she lost it and she threw a cup of hot water into my direction and told me that i need to F*** off and get my stuff and dissappear, so i grabbed my stuff and dissappeared out of her face, i havent saw my parents for almost 10 years after that, in the beginning it was very tough for me to survive on my own and i had to rely on my homies, but 16 years later im still here, still making money and i have never listened to my parents

There wasn't Mandarin classes until my junior year of high school. I think they have started implementing Chinese immersion now which gives 2nd grade kids the opportunity to learn Chinese all the way up to high school.

Let's talk culture.

Culture is a huge thing. For me, personally, I feel as though I am stuck in the middle of Chinese and American culture. One thing that I like to do is smoke weed. That's an absolute no-no in Chinese culture as it's considered a drug. They just can't get down with marijuana at all. Unfortunately, I have told them that I have to side with my American culture here and will continue to use marijuana. Also, they know it's legal in Massachusetts. You could see in their faces they weren't happy with my answer but they also know that there was an actual law that was passed in Massachusetts that made it legal.

My friend brought a bag of $2 bills to a bachelor party trip. I told him to rip them in half cause it makes no sense to be tipping girls double.

as i noted before, i'm not asian, but my parents despite spending their adult live here are from other countries and i too have often felt between cultures...i feel like most parents would feel a way about their kid(s) doing any drug, though in what way(s) is culture important to you? would you say the culture you believe or "practice" now is uniquely asian/chinese-american? are their things you feel like you have to obey/keep? traditional holidays, language? one of the interesting things i remember hearing is how language can affect the way people think, for example i can't remember if it was asian languages generally or (a) certain language(s) specifically have a slightly different concept of time in part due to how the language is constructed/spoken & some australian aborigines have directions (like absolute east, north, south, & west) embedded in their language such that it become part of how they think, and thus affects culture. i wonder if one speaks multiple languages has some type of affect

Our parents grew up without the Internet. What they thought was right/true is literally what their parents told them and so on. I respect my parents but disregard any opinion they have on drugs, social issues, politics etc.

The narrow-mindedness of the generation before us is truly mind blowing.

True. But they been living like that for generations and been doing just fine. I mean, it was their way of thinking that allowed them to raise a family and give you opportunity that people can only dream about. They have to be right somewhere... Look how far our ancestors came.

For anyone based in Cali, how big is the dance scene out there?

I see all these crews competing at VIBE, World of Dance, Bridge, etc.

I think I'm more narrow minded than my parents :lol

I went to UCI for two years - dance is HUGE out there.

I had ~8 different roommates while I was there and they were all dancers.

Know a lot of people that go there just to dance.

Funny at how much drama there could be though

but their parties were lit.
