All Things Sports Media Thread!!

I can't believe Lowe had George Karl on the day-he-REALLY-got-fired, and Karl wanted to continue to talk about the ABA at the end and Lowe was like, 'Eh, we'll let you get ready for those feisty Brooklyn Nets tonight. George Karl, thank you for your time.' Then they go out there and put a 120-spot on SAC.

Brooks and VDN didn't help themselves imo.
Blew my mind when the news came out. Don't know the last time I heard a full hour long interview from a coach in the middle of a whirlwind like this.

Best part is the interview went on mostly without a hitch. I was just under the impression that upon recording the news hadn't leaked yet.

Truth. Window into how decisions are made on a snap judgment there, he didn't sound like a guy who thought there was a scenario where a loss led to a firing. Laid back, but tbh it's hard to discern between his disposition and just who he is at this advanced age and ramping health concerns at this point because of all the reports re: him being disengaged, shockingly aloof to everything day-to-day.

If you're a national writer, it's A.) I can try to report on this enigmatic team and hope my info holds up B.) Save Your Career, don't even acknowledge their existence if you're not throwing shots.

So they'll basically have to fire Karl ... again ... My guess is they/Karl came to an agreement that he can keep his job and dignity if he goes off into retirement at season's end.

Really not sure if this is the right thread but didn't know where else to put it -

What's good with (applying to) FanSided.com for writing/editing? Saw on Facebook a friend of mine writes for them, and all he said was he applied through their site to be apart of one of the blogs. Is that how I should go about it or is it not a site worth using? Just want to find outlets to get back into my creative writing hobby. Thanks fellas.

Michael Dunlap, senior content director at Fansided just tweeted this a few minutes ago:
@DunlapSports I have new freelance opportunities available (flat rate pay) for NBA, NFL, NCAAF, WWE, Soccer, TV, Racing and Automotive. DM for details.

Good looking out sharing that tweet. I don't use Twitter tho :o any other way I can reach him? I have an account but I'm not active at all.

The pay is virtually nonexistent so yeah doesn't take much to get hired.

I figured there'd be no pay involved. I more or less just want to get into the habit of writing again so in case I were to ever find a paying gig, I have prior work to share.

And home, I still haven't forgotten about your PM! Hope you didn't take any disrespect to me not answering yet :lol I'm gonna take a look back tonight or just over the weekend.

Grantland byke? :smokin

Bill Simmons' new Grantland will be called The Ringer, and it will be populated by many ex-Grantland staffers.
Simmons announced the website and a launch timeline on Wednesday morning.

The Ringer will be "the exclusive home to all of Simmons' written material," according to his spokesman, while HBO will be his home on TV.
It will start as an email newsletter in mid-March. The actual site "will debut sometime this late spring or early summer," the spokesman said.
Simmons has been assembling a team of editors, writers and podcast producers for several months. Many of the hires, like editor in chief Sean Fennessey, are alums of Grantland, the ESPN-backed site that Simmons headed until last spring.

After his falling out with ESPN, a number of key staffers also exited Grantland. ESPN shut the site down in October.
On Wednesday, at the same time Simmons announced his new site's name, he also revealed several more new hires, including another seven former Grantlanders: Craig Gaines, Bryan Curtis, Ryan O'Hanlon, Danny Chau, Riley McAtee, Joe Fuentes, and Tate Frazier.

Just like Grantland, The Ringer will have culture coverage; the site said Wednesday that Amanda Dobbins, formerly of Glamour, will be the deputy editor for culture.
"Many more hires for 'The Ringer' will be announced in the near future," the spokesman said.
The site is a product of the Bill Simmons Media Group, a company Simmons recently founded. His podcast network is also a part of the group.

Simmons' weekly HBO show will start sometime later this year.
Meanwhile, the animosity with ESPN lingers. When a fan asked Simmons, "What are the lessons [you] learned from running Grantland from a business perspective?," he responded on Wednesday, "Don't do it with ESPN."

Listening to lebatard's show and fans sent in fat sportsnames and fat band names for him. I'm dying. I need to find a list of them.

So Whitlock and Shaun King are e-beefing...:rollin :rollin :rollin

There's been some quality ether exchanged too :lol

so happy for Bill

For completely different reasons - Unstoppable Force vs. Immovable Object

What is "Tate Frazier" going to be doing full-time/long-term
He's going to be living the life working for Simmons as a 22 year old

Whitlock subbing in for Cowherd tomorrow. Shaun King agreed to go on. Get yo popcorn ready...

:D

This dude King comes across like a major tool. If I didn't know any better I would say he is a teenager let alone a "senior writer" for a major newspaper.
