All Things Sports Media Thread!!

Also, add Zach Harper to the list of guys I'd like to join Simmons's new team.

Greenwald staying with ESPN? His talents could be utilized better with anybody else. Doesn't even have to be Bill

wow at espn editing out grantland podcast folks sending well wishes to those that left

I'm surprised so many people like greenwald. tried listening to his podcast with Chris Ryan, i find them to be really annoying.

I thought his earlier writing on grantland and as a guest on the BS report were good.

No more review of the Challenge by Jacoby and Juliet. This certainly can't be life!

my baby juliet leaving too might be the dagger because the appeal of grantland was bill and I'm sure these culture writers rather work for variety, the hollywood reporter , gq , vulture , vox , time etc

Excellent news his brand of race baiting and being a terrible journalist and person will fit right in on that network.

He should have chosen misogyny, because that's how you stay at ESPN.

What website(s) would you guys recommend for someone wanting to get a deeper understanding of football, and general analyzes?

Hell, I'm surprised he's not on Fox News by now.  He'd make a popular O'Reilly guest I'm sure.

It's strange how those that cover sports have become something we pay attention to too as a result of how embedded they are in the culture through social media.

Its huge now, even across other areas of entertainment where that wasn't the case. Personally I don't like it.

I don't like it when they slide back and forth between their entertainer schtick and being a real journalist/reporter.

All of them that are on TV/radio do it between Simmons, Le Batard, Stephen A Smith, Cowherd, SVP etc etc.

Thats okay, Its just some people cant tell the difference.

The non-reporter in the classic sense of "journalism" can work for an online blog, design a Twitter profile with professional appeal, and master 140-character wittiness to the point where they garner huge followings.

The report in the classic sense of "journalism" gets the following right away, but contradicts the step up they sincerely do have on the person I exemplified above by trying to assimilate to the tone of that person, the snark of that person, the one-linerology of that person, etc.

It mirrors how newspapers threw everything online initially for free because online journalism/blogs were free and bigger amongst a different/younger audience, and then years later, the newspapers wanted to charge for access to their online sites.

It mirrors that because the reporter in the classic sense of journalism is again, admitting, 'we're doing things the way the non-reporter/online blogger' have done. Replicating their format, their style.

We've reached a point where online journalism has become as much or more of a part of the news cycle, and by assimilating - newspapers have waved the white flag when it comes to proving why they can be online, and still have more worth than 'what's online'.
