All Things Sports Media Thread!!

At first I didn't like the LeBatard move to 10 AM but its been largely the same show.
Bomani's show is really good, I could never mess with his previous time slot.

^ I download the podcasts for all 3 anyways.. Or I'm subscribed so they automatically get downloaded

But if I remember then I throw it on while I'm a work.. Then when I'm back for lunch I got bomani and jaken coming on, if I remember to actually put it on

Listening to the Wesley Morris episode and dude gets deep about grantland

I do wish I listened to more podcasts, especially all of the "Do You Like Prince Movies" podcasts because I'm a big fan of Wesley Morris.. Grantland will miss him for sure.

@JimMiller 4 highly regarded @Grantland33 staffers turned in resignations today to @ESPN and will be going to work for @BillSimmons
8o

I'll never visit Grantland again if he takes Abrams, Lowe, Goldsberry and Greenwald.

Edit:

Bill hinted at hiring people for his HBO show on today's podcast. :lol

LETS GO!!

Abrams and Lowe will be the biggest losses to me.. next to Morris but he's leaving to the New York Times which is a great step up.

I like Greenwald, but I'm not a huge fan.

I can't do the "do you like prince movies".. I tried.. Just couldn't get down with it.. Also wasn't a huge fan of the Hollywood prospectus

I felt like those guys needed a buffer, some regular joe who wasn't caught up in the finer details of film and the directors entire portfolio

I liked some of those guys when they were with Simmons.. But I couldn't really take either podcast on its own

Lowe and jalen are the only ones I really care about.. I like rembert in some stuff and want to see him succeed

Greenwald will be a loss.. Think Jonah Keri too, don't listen to the baseball stuff so I don't know

I like litman, but don't think she would be regarding as such, liked the NBA after dark folk.. I pray they keep barnwell, dude only sounds good if you don't actually know stuff about those teams

haven't checked that one out yet

Listen to it.. He supposedly spilled his guts to Wesley before everything happened and predicted a lot of stuff that ended up happening

He talks about stuff ESPN did and didn't do and then how they turned on him and tried to paint him.. He supposedly flat out predicted who would replace him

Just for that stuff, you gotta listen

So who left Grantland?

And :lol at the guy who thought Bill was slighting Cowherd when he specifically said Cow was the only one who could hold his own

Absolutely love having Billy back in my podcast commute rotation :hat

My best guess would be Mays & Barnwell. No way one leaves the other

Zach Lowe for sure. But then who else?

Cant be Greenwald cause him n Ryan are bffs.

:lol if Barnwell just dips from Mays but I highly doubt it, podcast has a huge following

But Bill LOVES Barnwell, Lowe and Greenwald

I said it.. I'm well aware that bill likes cowherd for some reason.. He's been on the show a bit when it was on ESPN.. Just hoped it was just to promote his own stuff like him being on first take or doing anything with those two blowhards

To me cowherd is the reason it shouldn't be done and was hoping bill finally realized dude is blowhard most of the times

I'm a fan of bomani, but I wish he went the le batard route and had more people to bounce things off of.. Or followed Dan Patrick's show

If it's Greenwald, Lowe, and Barnwell (Jonah Keri seemed to hint already that he's one of them) then that's a wrap on Grantland.

Greenwald is my dude for TV reviews. I'll follow him like a great barber. He got me into The Americans and Mr.Robot. Great shows :smokin

Does anyone actually like Bill Barnwell? I've always thought he's had an identity crisis trying to write like Simmons (who has a unique talent) half the time and then like Lowe (who is too detailed orientated to imitate and half-*** it) the other half. Don't like him in podcast form, either. Mays is decent.

That's a perfect description of Barnwell.

They have him positioned as the Lowe "deep-dive" type but his analysis is just not original or interesting enough.  And his writing half the time is even more boring than Lowe (who isn't a very exciting writer).  When he tries to spice it up it does sound like C-grade Simmons.

He always complains about talking about the more "out there" teams like the Jags or Titans or Bills or whomever on his podcast, but he churns out articles about Bill Belicheck's genius and Aaron Rodgers' greatness like he's Peter King.  He's such a one-trick pony with the two or three stats he uses but positions himself as an analytical mind.

Mays is fine but he also doesn't have much new to say.  His favorite topics are how great JJ Watt is, how great Aaron Rodgers is, and how great Andrew Luck is....  snooze.

Funny enough Barnwell's column about this week was one of his better ones in a while.

Zach Lowe is awesome as a podcast guest but damn his writing is boring.

I think Bill Barneell really good at breaking down foot ball in an analytical way. Hes the only football writer i read. but im not nit a huge football fan.

:lol yah unless his column has bullet points or rankings I skim through it quickly.

Barnwell seems boring but that description of him is exactly what I would think he's like :lol

He postures at sounding like he's insightful but he doesn't really know what he's talking about in the way that Zach Lowe does.  Makes sense he would come across that way to someone who isn't a big fan (not a shot at you at all).
