Im 20, about to be 21 in December
So I'm in a point in my life where i work and go to a CC and its boring.
Im not really feeling it.

My relationship wit my girl is not great and we might break up.

I ave almost no friends, since they all moved out.

So I was thinking maybe i can join something and make money to send to my fam while also saving.

I also heard you can be a doctor through there medical programs? I really wanted to become a doctor

Any advice from real soldiers here? I know there are plenty and I really appreciate your help.

Whats better to join?

Benefits?

Thanks alot

Join marines. Best tittle out their,my cousins one and he's working hard doing w.e he's doing but he feels proud. So if you need some help to bring you up and to feel like your doing something, join marines. you wont regret it. Im leaving to boot camp beginning of next year

If you want to focus more on a career based on technology, go Navy and Air Force. Every branch is good, just depends on what your needs and interests are. I myself am looking into the Air Force for a career in Financial Management

So if I want to become a doctor what program is best?
Do they pay you if you enlist? if so how much?

I don't know details about what branch to join to be a doctor but no matter what you enlist for your pay will depend on your rank. Pay grades are the same for all branches so if you go Navy, Army, Marines, etc and join in as an E2 rank for example your pay will be the same. Whether your a cook in the Army or an infantrymen, your rank determines your pay, not what your doing in the military. I plan on joining the military soon so i'm not in just yet. If theirs any mistakes in my post anyone whose actually in feel free to correct me.

If you want to be a doctor of what ever specialty...join the navy.
If you have your bachalors you can join as a officer, however from the looks of it,
you dont have ur degree. However there is a officer program you can get into to get you degree and become some sort of doctor.
Mariens wont offer you that sort of opprtunity.
Talk to a recuriter, take your asvab n get money bruh
btw im navy enlisted, im dental in navy (hawaii) loving life.

im in the army... they plan on downsizing and getting rid of alot of jobs come in 2014 because the war is getting ready to be over... they are tough in here aint no desk job like the navy and air force be prepared to be out in the field for 30-45 days straight living in a tent and be ready to deploy if you join especially in the medical field you are going to go over seas where im currently at....

and if you choose the army make sure you like doing alot of running push ups situps and pull ups because you bout to get it 5x a week and if you are already in shape you will make it easier for yourself in basic and when you get attached to your unit!! do a practice APFT on yourself and see where you are at!!

but its not that bad.. has its ups and downs... im enjoying it... could be alot worst tho...

Where u at now?

im out in germany right now!! one of the nicest countries i done been at so far... they love americans out here been here for awhile..... but my next stop is Afghanistan in 3 months!!!

Deciding which branch to join depends on what you want from the military. I joined the Army because of the training/experience that the other branches could not replicate. Find out which branch makes it easier for you to do what you want to do, and then go for it.

Really? 25B was one of the MOS's i was interested in. 35n signal intelligence analyst was another choice. I took the ASVAB back in March when my intentions were to join the Air Force. Got a 70.

EDIT:
Didn't realize you were talking to OP

You can become a MD without a bachelors and the necessary biology/physics/chem classes? I never knew that (non-sarcastic)

I been thinking about joining the military alot as of lately myself. I already have my bachelors and will have my masters in December. My major (social work) sort of requires me to do 2 more years of supervised work in order to obtain my independent license, if my life isn't where I want it to be at 25 I may join (only as officer) in order to get things moving.

I was sort of disheartened the other week when I spoke to a recruiter and he informed me I would be unable to go Air Force because of my Half Sleeve (wrist to elbow). I have heard there are waivers out there could anyone shed some light. I will only do AF or NAVY (as a last resort).

The military is all of what you make of it, everyone has their own reason's to join. I myself decided to become one of the few, the proud, The Marines. I wanted the chance to travel, and meet new people, as well as challenging myself all while doing outstanding service, for myself, my friends, my country, and for god.

It all depends what you want out of it.
If you just want a change of scenery then the military will deffinatley provide that for you. If you are looking to get into the medical field, then the Navy would deffinatley be the way to go.
As far as a steady, relaxed office type job, All branches has them, although I'd imagine they are easier to come by in the AirForce or Navy. If you are trying to go the infantry, then it's handsdown the Marine Corps, or the Army.

If you are just trying to do some time, save up some money, and use the G.I. Bill for college, I'd go with the Air Force or Navy before the Army or Marines.

I've recently read a lot about NTer's getting dicked around by their recruiters and not really knowing what's going on or what to expect. Recruiting is not an easy duty, it's hard for a recruiter to find a fully qualified person with the intent to join not having any disqualifying factors. As all of the branches are trying to downsize in the near future, that will just make the recruiters more selective on who they try and enlist. There is the "topple down" effect though, where there will always be a need for new enlistee's / recruits because if the same enlisted people stayed in the ranks, they will keep getting promoted and there won't be anyone on the bottom. My advice, I did a lot of research by just googling whichever branch and going to their official site and reading everything about requirements/eligibility and what not. About.com also has an extremely in depth description of all the branches, with detailed information about each specific MOS and what to expect. Research and find what it is that you WANT to do, and get out there and talk to a recruiter and let them know what you want and be firm about it. If they try and feed you some BS try and find another recruiting station and see what they say.
Let me just say I'm not like a lot of Marines who look down on the other branches, I realize we are all brothers and sisters in arms and i am not Bias'd against other branches. For the most part the military is all voluntary, and while people have different motives/reasons to join, everyone can find a branch that suits them best.As the other posts have already mentioned the military payroll is based on military paycharts which go off of Rank and Time in service.

Example an E-4 in the Marine Corps will make the same as an E-4 in the Army.

Time in grade makes a difference as well,
An E-5 who has been in for 5 years (or more)
would make more BASIC PAY than an E-5 who has been in for 3 years.
There are special allowances though, such as having children or a spouse/dependants.

Based on my experience, You have a wider possibility of being stationed somewhere in the Navy/Air Force as there are far more installations than the Marine Corps has, but this all depends on your MOS/Job.

Some of this you may already know but I'm just throwing my 2 cents in.

As far as me, I've been a Marine for 2 years, and I'm currently in Afghanistan, and I'm set to return to my base at Camp Pendleton, California.
I've busted my !$* and have been promoted to E-4, and I don't plan on easing up. I'm unsure about my future, I'm entertaining ideas from all aspects, and I am either going to re-up, go to college for basketball, do music, or open up my own boutique.

Whichever path I choose to take I know i will be successfull from what I've learned in the Marine Corps.

hope this helps OP

I want to join the Air Force once I'm done with college. I wouldn't mind joining another branch , but my main preference would be the Air Force because of the Psychology program they have.
I've actually chilled with a few Marines and some Army guys. Not going to lie, the Army guys were pretty damn chill. Kind of helped me lean towards that branch as my second choice.
I have yet to actually sit and talk with anyone from the Navy, hear their experience and ask some questions. Maybe one of you guys can help...?

Join the marines... All other branches respect you and the pootang you will get off GP will be off the chain if your not a dweeb...

The otherside of me says : " don't support the military industrial complex " but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...

If you like your mental health don't go infantry
