5 years ago today: Malice at the Palace

I remember it was a school night and I was about to head to bed. I was watching sports highlights on a local channel here when they interrupted what they weredoing to show live coverage of the fight in Detroit.

I ended up staying up until like 2am watching coverage of the fight.

NT was crazy that night, we had like 15 new threads on the first page of the Sports Forum about the fight...the next day almost every single one of them waslocked.

I saved a screen shot of the Sports Forum that night but I lost the pic when my computer crashed on me later that year

?

He had a right to be tight as hell about getting a beer thrown at him. But to sit up and act like it wasnt OD to run up in the stands and start fighting random dudes, c'mon son.

Ben Wallace brother was putting in work tho. I felt worse for Fred Jones than anybody in the situation. He really had good intentions going up there, and got lit up....

I remember them saying locally that the incident sparked the most incoming & outgoing calls in the city since 9/11....the coverage that situation got locally was crazy.
Watch the video fam, Ron didn't even go into the stands swinging. When Jackson went in to help Ron out fans started hitting them both andthat is when the brawl began. Who cares if he went at the wrong dude, he went in the area and he didn't throw the first punch. Put it this way, if youwere in a bar and some random dude threw a beer on you what would you do? Stand there and do nothing like a $*%!% or go up and handle business, I'll bedamned if I am going to let someone pour beer on me and not get any reprecutions.

I remember the entire first page of S&T being flooded with threads about the fight. Someone on here said JO did the Dhalsim on that fan

I was home from college on Thanksgiving Break...hanging out, had the game on...definitely went to NT immediately....thread blew up.

My friends and I had just checked into our hotel in Manhattan KS for the KSU/ISU fb game and flipped on the tv to see Artest on the scorers table. Thingsescalated quickly from there. Can't believe it's been 5 years.

We couldn't have timed it better to catch the fight. **** was crazy.

Yo I completely forgot about Austin Croshere, I remember he had a series from heaven and got PAID

i remember i was at a friends house it was 3 of us watching this game... we were smoking that loud and was feeling nice :pimp:.... i was like what just happened i thought it was just a regular fight... then i was like damb did ron artest just run in the crowd and hit someone... i thought i was already surprised then i saw jermaine oneal throw sliding punch on a fan last minute

Skipped a huge house party to watch this over and over in the dorms my freshman year at KU. The whole floor was hyped. My favorite part was Tinsley running back out of the tunnel with a dust pan.

Go back and watch the post game coverage by Legler, Saunders and Stephen A. Hilarious. Saunders rant at the beginning and a subdue Stephen A. That was a crazy night.

I remember artest went after that dorky looking guy and he wasn’t even the one who threw the drink.

Did any of the crowd who got beat up sue the players?

I think ben wallace’s brothers were fighting the pacers players.

reggie miller talked about how that pacers team was the best chance he had a ring and how he saw it all go away when ron went into the crowd.

It wasn't the most exciting game to watch. It was pretty much over, until...Ben Wallace overreacted to a typical Ron Artest playoff-type foul, and it all fell apart a minute later. The most disgusting part of it all wasn't even the brawl itself, but the fallout from it, with all the racist narratives spewed out by more than a few commentators, analysts and talking heads in the media, referring to the players as "thugs" and "animals". A lot of hatred in people's hearts was exposed after this fight.
