40k salary for a job you like or 100k for a job you don't like?

I'm in that situation right now. Although in 5 years I'll be making more than the ladder, I'd still take a 100K job right now since I live at home, save all that money, buy a house with like 200 down in a couple years, rent that one out while I save more money and repeat.

Made 108k last year working 32 hours weekly at a job that I am truly starting to loathe.

But would I trade it for a 40k job at 40 hours weekly that I absolutely love...Its a romantic idea, but I'm not sure I could actually pull the trigger on that one when push came to shove.

Ehhh..... I made over $115k/year once. Worked a **** load of overtime.... Compared it to last year where I took more time than money.

If I had to choose to do which, for the rest of my career. I would choose time >>>>> money!

It SOUNDS good to make that much, but factor in taxes, time away from home, giving back vacation/sick/professional/bonus leave...ect

It's not worth it. I did alot of traveling and spending time with family last year. So many memories made!

100K after taxes could pay for 12 high level pornstars to shoot 12 scenes of a porn series I'd call "Whip It Out Chronicles" where I'd wear my NT fitted & invite these girls to a van sex session by whipping it out, hence the name.
After selling the rights to a big porn conglomerate, I'd quit my job, and continue shooting scenes.

The funny thing about money is that you value it when you don't have it, but then you realize it has no value when you acquire it. But the only way to reach this understanding is to acquire it so its a catch 22.

I love my job and the field I'm in, I don't mind putting in the work in fact I need to stop bs'ing & really get on my ish

40k? You guys must live in the south. For 100k you are just out of government subsidized housing in NYC if you want to live in a good area.
I'm from NY and this is ********.
Plenty of people not making 100k and not living in subsidized housing in NY and there are plenty of people in and outside of the south that can't find a 40k a year job because companies dgaf about hiring employees and paying them a "fair" salary.

40k is struggling in nyc if you want to live in a decent area. I want you to try to live in my neighborhood on 40k when rent is 1800-2000 for a studio.

If you want to live in the heights sure you might survive. But I'm good.

I never said 40k was great but ppl making it seem like if you're not making six figures in NY you're a bum and that's just not true at all. 40k isn't great anywhere IMO. Your time is worth more.

I know a job can never make me rich or give me the life i want , so i always use job money to flip

I would take the 100k gig and do 1-2 years , live like a college student and save about 40k or more and then quit and use the money to start various hustles/businesses.

All this do what you love talk is BS , their is no love in working for someone else and its sad few people realize that
Exactly, a lot of people can't grasp this concept. You will not be happy until you are completely free from working for someone else.

I'd take the 100K stack up and invest, that "I have to do what I love or have a passion for" mentality is what has people out here struggling.

Don't let these people fool you go for the money always. Make the extra money and use that to do what you love.
The federal government would like to have a word with you two

Yeah fed govt has it MADE.

Made $45k last year living in the NY area. I'm comfortable. Also, few people are going to be some sort of entrepreneur and good at it.

I would love the stats but 1/10000 probably make it if not a lot less. It's similar to restaurants, 75% or more fail within 2 years.

@Still Itachi working at pharmacy got real motonous very quickly when i was tech, part of reason i haven't pull trigger on pharm school is bc i dont think i could deal with motony for an extended period of time even though the pay is good and the hours are flexible compared to most health professions

40K, I've learned if you enjoy what you do...You'll do it for free...

Think about this...If you willing to put your all into something you enjoy...it will make you money.

All millionaires worked their butts off in the beginning for little of nothing, but they're was willing to keep going because they loved it.

It's funny how EVERYTHING always comes back to NYC

It only is relative to people who live in NYC and SF. We have the highest cost of living in the US by far so our wages and everything else need to be on par with it. I mean to live relatively okay here, 65k is nothing special besides paying rent, utilities, and maybe going out 1x per month if you live in a good area.

If you're young, no family responsibilities, and no crazy financial responsibilities--I'd say go for the $40K for doing what you love. I'm not too sure how many of you guys have visited outside the US but the relationship of work vs play here compared to alot of places is way out of wack. Life is about balance. Your job is taking 40 hours of your life. Every week. You're gonna tell me you'll slave that to just to stack money doing something you hate everyday? Life is too short for that. Do what you love, then make it lucrative. You'll enjoy the grind, effort, and the payoff that you'll get when you make it.

Now, if you have children, a bit older, and need money--I understand the $100k route. Even then, you work that job to save and cover financial responsibilities. You work on a passion on your off time that can support you financially and passionate about. Once that's become self sustaining, then quit that $100K job.

Letting your income define how you feel about yourself is not a good way to go. Life is too short to be a slave to something your heart isn't in.
