I think on this site, where we discuss these sneakers and the culture or history of it, we find it difficult to imagine there are people who don’t know much about something or may not like what the item is associated with, but still are able to get the item.

And those who are hardcore, and are the biggest fan for the longest time, who know a lot about these things, are not able to get the sneakers on release day.

Some of these comparisons are off, because the Wu dunk is an Iowa high just with a Wu logo. Dudes just need to admit you're hypebeast.

when it comes to shoes, if they look like *** I’ll skip them and if they look great I’ll grab them. How many people bought dinosaur jr dunks who actually listened to them? How many people wear sbs and don’t skate? Or dunks and didn’t play basketball in the 80s? How many people out here wearing Stan smiths that never saw him play? Why gatekeep when we csn all learn and be better informed about something.

This thread convinced me to sell my Iowa's and cop Wu-tangs instead so I can be like Travis.

I grew up a diehard Knicks fan and absolutely loathed Jordan. I actively avoided Nikes as a kid because I hated him so much. Didn't care if kids ragged on me for wearing Adidas, Cons, Le Coque Sportif and just about any other brand you can think of that wasn't Nike. Don't think I wore Nikes till the OG AM98 Gundams when I was like 22. Took over a decade after Jordan retired for me to want to wear his shoes, though lol

Not to gatekeep or sound snobbish but,

I don’t think Ive been in a situation where Im uninterested or unaware about the culture or history that surrounds sneakers or other apparel. Because it would feel like you just jump on the bandwagon.

It’s like you don’t watch baseball or know who the Yankees are, you just like the Yankees cap cause it looks good.

Ok so what do you like about it? Honest question. You don’t listen to the Wu or never heard of them so why try to get this shoe specifically?

I don’t skate but have SBs cuz the colors are dope and i was around when they started blowing up with the Supas, Reese Forbes, chocolate, etc. So owning them is about liking the shoe itself and its colorway.

So i ask again, why go for this specific shoe if you have no attachment to what it represents, to the sneaker heads and Wu fans that remember the drop and clamored for them? I’m guessing you like the colors so why not go after a pair of 2020 iowas or the Jordan pollens? Both are the same color blocking, shape etc and can be had for less stress.

If you are about the hype say it, then it makes sense but don’t say you don’t like Wu-Tang but want the shoe but want to play the oh you old head gatekeeper card, when Nike has already made 2 identical alternatives.

Some people just like shoes and could care less about the history of the shoes. I love the Wu, but don't like highs, so I didn't even try. Doesn't mean I love them any less, and vice versa.
