2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

I live there in the winter. Again, I'm not talking about any other sport. There is evidence in TV Ratings, attendance and whatever else that the city actually has become a basketball one. That could waver now - and it wouldn't make it much different than anywhere else. Nothing about the Heat fan-base says fair-weather more than 90% of the other NBA cities since AAA was built. The all white shirts that covers the lower bowl and are late arriving and leave with 2 minutes to go is not the fan-base. You know that, at least.

Riley never spoke with him or met with him. That alone is pretty much grounds to just leave

Riley made whiteside the priority and also gave him the amount of money that didn't allow the heat to pay wade more than 40 m's

At that point you sort of realize how you're viewed. Besides not being paid what you think you deserve, that's the distant second reason as to why you might consider leaving

And honestly, Dirk and Duncan CHOSE to take less money not expecting "$loyalty$" in return. Also, everyone here was slandering the Lakers management for giving Kobe that much money and basically holding the team hostage for two years but then you slander Miami for standing their ground and not going that route?

Sure, it sucks seeing Wade go, but at least they can move on now. We can talk all we want about gossip but at the end of the day, they will be in a position to land a top tier free agent or two, even more so if Bosh decides to hang it up due to his unfortunate circumstance.

Wade will go down as the greatest Heat Ever and this wound will heal in time. But this will help Miami avoid being in limbo as the Lakers were for three years.

they offered Whistle 2/20 mil?

In theory they'll have the money, but the damage the way this was handled may negate whatever cap space they have. This isn't even getting into what further damage how they handle this Bosh situation will be. And you keep bringing up the Lakers, even after the Kobe deal they had space to sign a max free agent but never did cause of the front office's dysfunction more so than Kobe if this summer is any indication. Your reputation matters in the league, and Riles has hurt that significantly. Also Kobe being broken down yielded the nice young core we have now so it was a necessary evil.

They did not throw him to the parking lot they offered him 40 million dollars

exactly. dudes really acting like they offered him a vet minimum or something. 20 mil a year is garbage for a 35 year old. they cant be serious.

to be fair though , i think lakers shouldve offered kobe 10 mil a year the last two years he was here and called it a day. if he wanted to bounce let him bounce. sorry .go get paid somewhere else. even with the lakers being stupid and showing they take care of they "guys" . we still cant get any free agents to come here. miami will be fine and better off

When Harrison Barnes choke again, they wish they have the keys to those handcuffs nearby.

he already got paid for that. hes not winning titles anymore. this is 2016 and hes 35 years old. what you did in the past is irrelevant to today. .

Coming from an organization that preaches loyalty and family. That's funny. Yea he's 35 but he's still their best player and you don't offer your best player to take half of what he made last year. Again they upped offer to "look" like they wanted him but if Riles didn't even speak to him we know that's not the case.

The Bosh situation will be interesting to see. Either way, I do wish for Bosh to return at full strength and get to do what he loves.

As for the Lakers, in hindsight you could say it worked out, but no one could have predicted them landing two top 2 picks in a row, looking back, you guys also ran the risk of losing those picks if you landed below 4 (which was a very real chance, even more so this year). With all due respect, I highly doubt overpaying players and hoping for the best will be any GMs strategy.

We could have said the same about Danny Ainge when he dealt Pierce a few years back, but no one is even bringing it up. I think everyone is emotional right now, but time will heal all wounds (unless the media brings this up), we will forget about this event next year and they will be back at it.

The Miami fans on the other hand is another story.

Pierce does not mean nearly as much to Boston in the pantheon of sports as Wade does to Miami. He's arguably the greatest athlete in their pro alerts history.

And overpaying for players is exactly what every GM is doing now.

At the end of the day, money talks. And we're going to have a lot of it next offseason. Hard to say no to a mansion on Star Island with Brinks trucks parked out front.

championships dont matter past that season either right?

why even call past champs champs then?

if miami aint have any championships how many free agents would go there?

lakers have a crap load of chips and no one wants to sign here. boston has a lot of chips as well as has trouble getting big time free agents. no one says past chips dont matter, your taking what im saying wrong. as a player wanting to get paid for a championship you won many years ago. nah. you were already compensated that year you won a championship. you dont get paid for how good you were or what you did in the past. you get paid for what you can do today.
