He got his request granted for a release. The staff is still trying to convince him to stay, however.

Not too sure why he wanted out. I know he was struggling to break through our depth chart, though I figured he would stay the course and find his opportunity to shine next year. It's been suggested that he may just be mentally/emotionally done with football.

LSU  junior safety Jalen Mills  will be charged with misdemeanor simple battery, East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore said via text early Monday.

Mills was arrested and originally charged with second degree battery for allegedly punching a woman near his apartment in May  and has been suspended from the football team, which begins fall practice Monday.

On Sunday, LSU coach Les Miles said he did not expect Mills or freshman defensive tackle Travonte Valentine to be with the team when practice begins Monday. Valentine's high school transcript is being certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Moore released no other information in the text. Simple battery carries maximums of six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.

LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette did not comment on Mills' status and said he had not yet spoken to LSU coach Les Miles about the new information.

You think LSU's young, maturing DB's can keep pace with FSU and Va. Tech as we previously discussed? Secondary did a good job on Mike Evans last year, and I'm obviously banking on their development to have them as a top-4 team.
